Phil Hurley has been playing in bands since he was eight years old. He moved from his hometown of Potsdam, NY to Boston, MA in 1987 with his band Gigolo Aunts. Gigolo Aunts toured extensively in the US and Europe with groups such as the Counting Crows, Cranberries, Wallflowers, and The Lemonheads.

Phil then went on to tour with Tracy Bonham for her platinum record "The Burdens of Being Upright."

In 2006 he created the celebrated country-rock group StoneHoney with fellow LA singer-songwriters Shawn Davis, Nick Randolph and Dave Phenecie. StoneHoney toured extensively across the US and in 2009 relocated to Austin, TX, signing to Jimmy LaFave's Music Road Records.

In Austin, Phil continued his success playing guitar with Jimmy LaFave, recording with artists such as Hal Ketchum and Wendi Waldman, and co-founding The South Austin Moonlighters.

Phil released his solo album "Nowhere Left To Run"-produced by Chris Gage-in 2019 and is currently working on his follow up album.

I'm so glad I saved my Epiphone Casino from that nasty pawn shop. Plus it goes great with my Strat and Epi Caballero acoustic.

Overall I liked the Guild the best, with the Gibson a close second. Overdriven that Gretsch did really shine too.

Hey old friend - Sounds amazing! Hope all is well with you and your bride. Maybe you'll be on the road soon - possibly heading to New York state, or your old stomping grounds? I'll be in touch. Be nice to catch up. Great to see that you are doing well. Much Love - BT

Nobody does Hollow Bodies like Gretsch does. But Gibson did have great hollow bodies when they were making them.

I think across the board, the 335 took 1st. In the middle position, the casino knocked it out of the park. The guild is unique, but with all of that mid and highs and lack of bass, its a chicken picker guitar, not a ryhthm one, it's too piercing. The gretsch did best in the neck position, but man that middle sound was weak compared to the rest.

I think you can play that thing anywhere. Nothing cooler than turning up with an incongruous guitar then being so good that by the end of the set everyone has forgotten your guitar is pointy.

I dream of owning a Gretsch Country Gentleman, Gibson ES355 and an Epiphone Casino. I'm not a fan of the shape of that Guild but the sound is good.

I was just listening to The Lemonheads the other and still after all these years loving the guitar sounds and wondering what was used. Thanks for sharing all of these stories Phil. As a Boston guy and a fan of Gigilo, Letters to Cleo and other wicked cool Boston bands from that era I love hearing them.

The Gibson is it, but the GuiId has something ! But WARNING; this is not a Vid for Guitarists of the Pat Martino/Wes Montgomery schooI Iike me! So I prefer either Gibson or GuiId starfire 3 for these Purpose.

Phil, I have a 2000 R7 Goldtop that is really amazing. People have mentioned to me that apparently there’s something about the wood during that time period. It’s probably total bullshit but I have to say that there really is something special about this one. I’ve owned about 6 Les Pauls over the years but this is the only one I still have.
