Back in 2017 a friend and I shot this video taking a look at three of my Goldtops (I've since sold one of them!), the history of each guitar and what makes each one special. Toward the end of the piece I play each guitar through a 1965 Fender Vibrolux.
- 1952 Les Paul (0:32)
- 1977 Les Paul (3:52)
- 2000 Les Paul (8:17)
- Rhythm Pickups (11:11)
- Middle Position (13:03)
- Lead Pickups (14:40)

This channel is amazing! That 2000 is a “good wood era” LP. They were using old growth mahogany again from about 93 to 05. The guitars of that era are a little bit better than people realize. I have a 73 SG Standard that blows my mind when I open the case, same thing you described about your 52. It’s just the perfect guitar for me, an extension, if you will. Great vid, thanks for sharing!

Phil, I have a 2000 R7 Goldtop that is really amazing. People have mentioned to me that apparently there’s something about the wood during that time period. It’s probably total bullshit but I have to say that there really is something special about this one. I’ve owned about 6 Les Pauls over the years but this is the only one I still have.

I really like your tone at the end of the clip! Would you mind sharing what amp and bridge pickup you were using? Thanks!

Thank you!. That's my '77 with a Duncan Antiquity in the bridge. I think I was using a house amp that night and it was a modern Fender Vlibrolux Reverb silver face reissue.

@@kevinburns4947 I didn't have to replace anything. There was an issue with the original volume pot that we were able to clean up (without replacing) and it all came back to life. Sound incredible!
