I'm Rana Makhlouf, a professional Arabic teacher for non-native speakers. I'm an author of two books for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers and I teach my sweet language in a fun and academic way. I am an author, RU-vidr and Podcaster and I'm proud of the job I do even though I live in Lebanon and Syria but I'm always motivated to deliver my Arabic to all of you. I studied Physics and Translation, the thing that made me understand how all people think. I used my knowledge in both fields to deliver Arabic the way people need to learn. I like to speak about beneficial and most interesting matters in the Arab World or anywhere else. Sometimes I speak about silly stuff, but I don't like to focus on a silly content. You can expect me to speak about great topics and I'm opened to new suggestions and recommendations all the time. I'd like to see your comments and I'd love it if you had the time to share my hard work with people who are interested. Thank you for your interest.
Where was that? I guess only the Levant area would use this expression. And if the person is an officer, they would not like it I believe! They would prefer the word sayyid.
As a European, I feel ashamed that so many of us feel like they're better that the rest of the world. They can only see their own perspective and don't try to see other perspectives
I love your videos so much! I was curious when you were speaking of the blue notebook that was your favorite. You said dayiman wa abadan. Meaning always and forever. But I thought abadan meant never. Can anyone clarify for me?
Marhabaa! Shukran for your lovely comment. Answer: al-abad = eternity ila al-abad = forever abadan = never OR ever Therefore, abadan could mean both according to the context. Here, (dayman wa abadan) is an expression used to say always and forever. I hope that was clear :)

So you believe in the COVID ? Anyway the problem is that the Europeans men have lost their virility. Because of the law against them, most of them don't talk anymore with women because of fear to be called misoginic, racist, homophobic and the worst, antisemitic 😂 But an other problem with my continent is that the peoples are thinking like the (sioniste) élite who are taking command in Europe and in the west in general. In France when I'm from, they talk about terrorism in middle east because the media are talking about. But they forget than their fucking republic was born with the mason revolution and killed and cut thousands of heads and genocide the "chouans" whom wanted to stay like before. They had also the republican wedding which was to attach a Priest and a woman or kids with olders and drawned them. And the french republic like, England and USA loved to spray democracy with bombs and colonisation and propanganda of obligatory LGBTQXYZ and obligatory race mixing to kille the seeds of countries and cultures for the benefits of Israel. And I know than the life in Syria, Lebanon or even Iran is a simple and nice life and the women doesn't live in jail and wear veil if they wanted and like in other countries there is also difficult people like everywhere. انا فرانسوي، بتحكي فرنسي؟ بس بحب فيديوك كتير من وقت طويل. دروسك كتير منيح.
In Latvia we have another problem - every girl is obsessed with the idea to buy her own flat. So when they are married and have a conflict with their husband they immediately divorce and go to live in their own flat. Having a flat makes divorce sooooooo easy.
To Cyprus this earthquake came after 8 minutes. I was in a flat of my Syrian friends and we all were very scared because all furniture and lamps started to move. We never have earthquakes in Latvia so it was more scary for me. But when my Syrian friends called their families they discovered how horrible this earthquake was in Syria ☹
Dear Rana, I wrote one of your sentences out for a question: المفروض إنّي أنا إعطي وقت أكثر لَ الرّياحة 1. Is the part of the sentence that means I'm supposed المفروض إنّي ? 2. Do you need the pronoun أنا, or is it just serving for emphasis? 3. Thanks! :)
Dear Jerry, 1. Correct. "I am supposed to" 2. No need for the pronoun in this sentence, either you say: إنو أنا Or إني But when emphasizing, we say: إني أنا Ahla w sahla ❤️
that woman was ignorant, some people dont understand that the world does not revolve around them. there's things i appreciate and love about all cultures. I love that people are family oriented in the middle east and have a big community. although collectivist societies also have their issues, i guess no place is perfect. i'm from asia but live in europe so i can see the problems and stereotypes from both sides btw i love this style of video! <3
Maybe I didn't get your comment clearly! Just asking: have you seen many Middle Easterns trying to change the West? (That's my question) :)) as we've seen many Westerns trying to change us! So just saying that we need to respect each other and not try to change each other even if we don't like something you have or you don't like something we have :)) I hope that was clear enough
Another Canadian here. Not only we respect everyone, we take in hundred's of thousands of refugees from countries with "family oriented" (as Rana put it) cultures. And yes, unfortunately, it isn't always reciprocated :( The subject is a bit annoying, agreed, but this subtitled format is a very useful learning tool IMHO. Rana, if you are reading this - keep these videos coming! And one more thing Rana, there is no word "coz" in the English language, it's "because".
@@arabicwithrana "Just asking: have you seen many Middle Easterns trying to change the West? " yes, I have. Unfortunately. But it doesn't matter, the only reason I am watching your videos is to improve my Arabic, I really don't care what you think of the Western culture and I am definitely not here to try to change your mind. Just keep posting these subtitled videos Rana, you are doing a good job!
@@yan4876 Dear Yan, Donno why you got the idea that I was speaking about you! 😂 Did I mention 4 times in the video that I don't mean those who don't think this way? (YES!). Thank you for your humble opinion, as there is no word like (IMHO), same as there is no (coz). Thank you for your comment and please keep watching my content. Even if you don't like it, you will learn 😉
Hi, I am Janaï feom the Netherlands.... I am so happy I found your videos, because you wrote the transliteration aswell, and even the transcript is included.... This is exactly what I need to be able to learn how to read and pronounce it! I am going to learn with the help of your videos for sure! You mentioned that you developed learning materials aswell? Could you send me the link to your books please? Would appreciate it. I can't seem to find any eligible books so I am curious about your materials. I have Syrian friends who teach me and so learning your dialect is really useful.شكرا
I like your videos, and in general I agree with this video, however you also "commited" some generalizations here: not all European countries are the same. Compare for instance Balkans and the Nordic countries - cultures are so different between them! I'd even risk saying, the Balkan culture is closer to yours than to the Nordic one! Another point is that it is easy to say Islam actually defends women - but when there's thousands of intepretations you can have a socially developed country as Syria with its relatively easy naturalization policy (I mean obtaining the passport, compare to Saudi or any other Gulf state...) or laws on religion and conversion, and on the other side of the spectrum there's countries like Afghanistan or Yemen where the tradition dictates the role of women, not the religion (or rather, it is claimed there than the customs come from religion while it is not always the case). Yani, my point - it is so easy to generalize! But still, keep up the good work. Your videos help me improve my Arabic :D
Shukran ya Radusul! I believe that you understood the idea of my video :) which is: never generalize! Generalizing makes the situation worse, and my advice was: always research the country and always respect its culture no matter what it was, unless a specific person told you that they are not happy in the place they are in. And I totally agree with your comment, I believe we are on the same side of the idea. In some previous videos I mentioned TONS AND TONS of negative sides we have in the Arab World, but never generalize! I had the experience of seeing two siblings coming and raised in the same circumstances but each one has their own way of living, so again the whole point was to NOT generalize, otherwise you are aiming to change us or we will aim to change you! (There comes the limits some policies and countries are directing us to). Again, thanks for your lovely comment ❤️
Rana, first of all I am a big fan of the content you share and the time and patience to explain a lot of things to us. But here I strongly disagree with some of the mentioned points. I spent half a year in an arabic country and adopted, dressed in a modest way etc. As long as you‘re not married as a woman and wear a huge ring as a foreigner, (a small one doesn’t count!) many men won‘t respect you and will ask very inappropriate and personal questions. Many don‘t know boundaries when you don‘t fit in traditional lifestyle there. And many have very peculiar ideas about life in Europe. In my experience, a lot of men were checking out American and European girls because they think they are all quickly available for sex. Muslim standards don‘t seem to apply for foreign women. and last thing: I wouldn‘t call this culture I have experienced family-oriented, I would call it first of all patriarchal - ابوي.
Dear Sophie, First, thank you for your lovely comment and your nice words. I can't disagree with you neither agree fully. Maybe you have missed my point here, maybe not. But I will sum it up here to avoid any misunderstanding. The whole point is to NOT generalize a specific idea or concept towards a whole group of people. I can't generalize saying that Christians are not good because your culture is sometimes more open-minded (according to you) because in my opinion and the way I was raised, Christianity is not different from Islam if you are open-minded enough to study both. I mean, Arabs are not just Muslims! And Europe is not just Christians! Maybe your experience wasn't the best thing and maybe the place/area you stayed in wasn't the best for such experience (so many maybe's can be said here). I mentioned one time, and can't remember when and in which video, that I don't like a lot of things here but I can fix that with my behavior. Do you think that no one got me wrong from both religions here? Do you think that no man thought about sex on the first date? Of course we have such people all over the world, not just here and not just there. But it's enough to say no and that's it! You should not hide in your hotel/house for the rest of your life! I don't wear a ring and I don't care! I am 31 and my aunt is still asking every time if I am getting married any time soon or not! But that doesn't mean that all women are exactly like this aunt! My whole point was to never generalize! And I am still against saying that a whole country is (closed-minded) because of some behaviors some people do! *A whole new video or more will be related to this topic, coz a comment is never enough lol*
8:45 That's the entire point of their philosophy: to force YOU to change to their ways. The only way to deal with them is to make them leave. Your culture might not be perfect, but you have ZERO obligation to change it, and certainly not for those freaks.
Dear Rana, how is Your friend Ahmed in Dubai? Is it possible to make for us vlog - video conversation with him about his experience moving abroad? What was difficult for him? What he enjoys? What he misses? How he can compare life in Syria and Emirates?
I think all these people who consider themselves as being from "the first world" and have urge to teach others how to live and behave actually should learn themselves how to be respectful and polite 😂 This woman clearly showed that she is rude guest of the country and narrow-minded person. I am sorry about her.
Thanks again for doing these. Already looking forward to your next "griping"video :) My wife had an extremely positive experience when we lived in the Middle East for 2.5 years (as did I).
Nicely put. I’m Iranian and have been living in Canada and US for decades now. You can just search for real crime documentaries on youtube and see how messed up the teenagers here are and the horrendous crimes they commit. The most notorious serial killers/rapists/torturers in history are from the west. United states by far has the highest rate of gun violence in the world. Everyone is obsessed with guns and tactical gears and thats all you see in Hollywood movies. Just guns and guns and guns. You barely see a movies poster without some dude with a gun and some bitch showing her cleavage.
