Expressions Used:
1- بِ هاد الجَوّ النّار bi haada el-jaww el-naar
Literally: the weather is fire
Context: the weather is so hot
2- سيبانات sibanat
Seebaneh: is when a group of people like a family go out, usually far away for a time off.
3- ما فينا إلّا البَحر ma fina ella el-ba7r
Literally: we can't except the sea
Context: we only can go to the beach
4- شو بيسَمّوها؟ shu bysammoha?
Literally: what do you call it?
Context: remind me! what was it?
5- ما بتِتحَمَّل ma btet7ammal
Literally' it doesn't bear
Context: it doesn't work that long
7- فَ بيجي الواحِد الصّبح هيك fa byiji el-wa7ed el-sob7 heik
Literally: so the person comes in the morning like this!
Context: you find people in the morning doing this ...
8- ماشالله قدّيش ما قوي الشّوب mashallah 2addeish ma 2awi hal shob
Literally: wow! what a strong hot we have
Context: what a hot weather!
(ma is NOT for negation)
10- بَدَّا حِلم الله badda 7ilm Allah
Literally: it needs the patience of God
Context: you can't handle it
11- أوتسترادات autostradat
highways in Syria are called Autostrad
12- بيمشي على الطريق byemshi 3ala el-taree2
Literally: to walk on the road
Context: to drive on the road
13- يا عَمّي والله مانو طَبيعي ya 3ammi wallah mano tabee3i
we use the phrase ya 3ammi, when we are upset, mad or we want to express our feelings that we don't like the thing.
14- عيوننا سَبعو و أربعة 3yoonna sab3a w arba3a
Literally: our eyes are 7 and 4
Context: we're concentrating on the road
15- على أقَلّ من مَهلنا 'ala aqall min mahlna
Literally: on the less of our slowliness
Context: so slowly
16- لا حَياة لِمَن تُنادي laa 7ayata liman tunaadi
this is a Standard Arabic phrase that we use in our daily life.
17- إذا ما فَشَخنا عَ الآخِر iza ma fahakhna 3al aa5ir
the verb "fashakh" is to make a wide step. We use it sometimes to express the exaggeration in something, usually a way of life.
18- رضينا rdeena
Literally: we are satisfied
Context: we are okay
19- كيف بدّو يطسّ keef baddo ytess
the verb "tass / bytss" means to see in a very spoken way, usually used when we are pissed.
20- كيف ما بدّو يقتُل بني آدَم keef ma baddo ye2tolo bani Adam?
to kill here, doesn't mean to kill on purpose! it means to have an accident
21- لا تُحمَدُ عُقباه laa tu7madu 3uqbaah
this is a Standard Arabic phrase used in daily life.
22- بَحبوحة ba7boo7a
ba7boo7a is "a little bit more of anything". Usually it isn't the basic thing you should have.
23- خَزَّانات مَيّ khazzanat maii
tanks of water that we put in the houses.
