Evacuate how many, how far, how long?. That alone is why this is never going to be resolved decently. Now expand this from just the little area to a larger eruption and you see why many folks have probably just left it in fates hands. The lawsuits alone would bankrupt elon much less the insurance companies that would be forced to eat the bills.
As an Indonesian who lives in basically a chain of volcanoes. Area around volcanoes has the mosy fertile soil, and it's great for agriculture, u basically can put stick and stone into the ground and it'll grow into some food. We all aware of the volcano may just erupt all the sudden without warning, but i guess that's the price people willing to pay for living
A bit too much of a Johnny Harris wannabe vibe with the filming and editing style, and the sound mixing is ATROCIOUS with voices sounding low and muffled, often the music and sound effects overpowering them completely, but a well researched, interesting topic.
Iv seen the imaging they did on the Yellowstone caldera, so that's not the issue. It can be done if you have local authorities with the will to get it done to protect People above financial concerns. Another problem I keep seeing here is how they will tell you how imprecise their ability to understand what's happening is so that they have that excuse to NOT call for more preparations, yet they will tell you how sure they are it will NOT erupt or how sure they are they don't need to panic anyone. The pure Hypocrisy is not lost on me. Most of the caldera is located anywhere from 400 to 900 meters underground below water. Yet not one time have they mentioned what happens to the people living there if that thing unzips below water and water hits Magama.
I have seen many reports clips on CF, with varying levels of accuracy and quality. This is a very well done report, well laid out with genuine and accurate detail. Loved it.
The reason is quite simple, really: Hays Code and Comic Code Authority. One tied both arms of the animation medium behind it's back, the other shot it in the head.
I remember about 30 or 40 years ago I read that 14% of the land mass is a risk from earthquakes or volcanic activity and 40% of the human population lives in these areas. The reason for this was explained as being due to the fertility of the farm land in these areas. How factual this statement is I can not say as it's the only time I have came across such information.
A volcanic winter was seen in the Byzantine Empire under the rule of Emperor Justinian. Even though there was no volcanic eruption in the Empire due the seismic activities around ghe globe aroused one such winters the effects felt from it are well recorded by the historian Procopius. It is said that ot sent the world into an ice age.
Im from Chile, the country of the highest earthquake documented in modern history (9.5 Mw), but now im living in Barcelona, and i got a lot of ppl asking me why and how we manage to live our lifes in an ultra sismic country, the response is always the same, we just do it, is part of our culture and we get use to it. There is a meme in latin american community where u see a typical Chilean not bothered within a simsmic below 7.0 richter scale, and while is true in some cases, others still feel scared. The thing is, since we have a lot of movement, by law our houses are antisismic, so it would be the same inside our houses, than outside. It's more important to grab the tv or delicated things than running outise "It's shaking outside too, don't run." we say that a lot But i ASSURED YOU, the moment a 4.0 eartquake hit Barcelona, im the first one running in the speed of light.
Auckland City. New Zealand. 1 million plus people live on a monogenetic volcanic field of 50 volcanos. Taupo Caldera says: Hold my beer... Okaitania says, alright mate, I'll hold your beer. Can't wait to show you what I have tucked up my sleeve.......
Brilliant video! Ive been to the top of Vesuvius and looked down on the urban sprawl for miles around, it’s mind blowing to think of that whole area being so high risk and the potential for devastation. It was sobering to be in Pompeii, to look at Vesuvius in the distance and imagine what people saw in the eruption of 79AD. Very informative & enjoyable piece of journalism.
Wonderful documentary. I often gravitate to actively erupting volcanoes such as Kilauea or those in Iceland, but Campi Flegrei is indeed the most dangerous. It is truly fascinating to see why all the people continue to live there despite the risk.
Oh I’ve been actually following this. I will say the difference between this and other active sites. This is Super Volcano and we haven’t seen one of those in 26,500 years. Idk if the size of this one would cause the cloud/ash coverage of the sky for years, mini ice age, tsunami, and etc or due to its size cause impact but not like Yellowstone impact. Or what exactly the impact it will have. I know why ppl go back to where they live even if it’s in area of tsunami, earthquake/faultline, volcano, tornadoes.
Great video! I, however, will never understand why people prioritize short-term socio-economic factors over facts and data and, more importantly, human life. Same effect that has taken millions of lives during COVID...
How many in a "simple" steam vent explosion get hurt? Like those recently in Iceland. Those cameras were at some distance not in someone's front yard, but, if you want to flirt with Pele I get it. Let her decide.
People there live on a ticking bomb. And it wil go off sooner then later. In the 80s they faced similar quakes, this time the crust is likely not holding magma back. Volcanos often try to break the crust before they actually manage to penetrate through. You've a very well researched video here. Thank you very much
This is a very well made video. You have some volcano 101 and then you talk about the situation and how it impacts the people's lives there. Well, I thought it was going to be click bait. It was actually very enjoyable to watch and informative. Good job!
Incredible mini-documentary, I've been on Vesuvius' crater rim when an earthquake occurred at Vesuvius and it scared me shitless. I can't even imagine living inside Campi Flegrei when an earthquake swarm hits...
