Learned this released from Coney putting out his reaction, must have missed the notification. Watching for myself first before watching his reaction, keep up the great work, Leon ❤
I don't care much for competitive Smash Bros. or Kirby's placements on each game's respective tier lists, but this is such an insanely well done video that I have to give you props on making it!
I found this video ages ago, near when it first came out, but after leaving for a while and re-remembering it, I couldn’t re-find it, I’m very happy that RU-vid finally brought me back to this video. I even forgot to like it!
theres another big thing attached to motion inputs. a specific technique that requires the motion input inherently. Kara Cancels are vital to characters who have poor range or approach tools. Take Potempkin from Guilty Gear Strive as an example. his whole kit at top level is made to be Kara Canceled for maximum reward for being able to input it correctly. Strive even has a mission in game that teaches you about Kara Cancels; and it specifically makes you use Potempkin as the example
Bruh, i waited the whole video for you to say ..."and kirby was mid, until his move stealing ability was used competetively" but then nobody even used it ONCE ? Fuck the smash players fr, like boring losers will not use the coolest part of characters cause it's not "meta" tbh other games have this problem too but here it's just sad
no WAY you're using the Machinarium OST!! heckin LOVE that game and its soundtrack! this has given me an insatible craving for you about point and click games, even if the thesis statement would probably be "old game cool but bad art, new game good art but less cool"
BRC feels like 3 great systems (tagging, movement, exploration) that all need a little extra and a little more connective tissue. I honestly think if you started the game with less movement tools and grew into a slightly larger one than we ended up with that'd tie up a lot of loose ends, give a sense of progression beyond just the story. So I guess... If BRC is so good, where's BRC 2?
As of june 8th, 2024, there are 800ish people in the rising thunder discord. I hope more people see this video and pick the game up, its an incredibly fun and simple game to pick up
Extremely well made as as always. The editing and visuals in these videos are always top notch. I would like to mention one very small thing though. Z-cancels in Smash 64 didn’t give you literally zero landing lag. They instead put your character into their regular landing animation which was 4 frames (or 8 when fast falling). Some of Kirby’s aerials like back air actually do have one frame less landing lag when done out of a fast fall funnily enough but you still get more lag when you don’t fast fall and the mechanic change it is still very much a net loss overall. Factors like the lower shieldstun and nerfs the aerials themselves got only further amplify this. This is still a very strong video as always, I just wanted to make a small correction.
Yeah, I agree with the conclusion that the risk/reward point has at this point become highly theoretical - as a new player, the risk/reward of doing a motion is wildly stacked against ever even trying; as an old player, the numbers are pretty much already locked in place; and the middle-level playerbase barely even exists as most players are veterans to the genre & the capacity to easily do motions is treated as a basic expectation for play. I'm very much in the 'new player who wishes they could engage with fighting games more' camp where the rote memorization of beating these moves into my muscles feels like something that stands in the way between me and engaging with 90% of these games in a meaningful way. I appreciate Granblue and SFVI for being experiments in trying to go beyond that, but I feel like I'd still be playing them because they're the games without motion inputs, rather than because they're the games I'd want to play most. (I actually love YOMI Hustle very much, in large part for letting me experience that higher level of fighting game mind games, but YOMI Hustle is a very different thing.)
