I just got mint used GX85 with 2 kit lens for $500. Just got an Leica M mount adapter so I can use my favorite Voigtlander lens on the m43 body. It's great 👍
Autel consumer drones are still being sold, no indication or news that they are leaving the market... of course they are also based in mainland China, and may be banned by the same bill threatening DJI.
No future proofing for high frame rates. 4K 200 fps or 240 fps should've been a feafure. Icing on the cake would've been good quality 1080P or 2K 960 fps even if limited to 2 second recording end trigger mode.
If OM would make a TG camera with larger megapixels and can shoot in 4k Apple Pro Res RAW then I would buy one. I would really like to shoot video underwater and then color grade in post.
I already have a house, i don't need a brick :) On the other way it can be useful sometimes. Imagine that: you walking in the street and someone attacks you, you can defend yourself with the camera.
*I've never bought a GHX for Photography.* They've just never been up to par...they feel like they're always 4-5 years behind. Right now I don't see a huge upgrade from the GH6 to GH7. Can't say I'll be getting one. 1080 recording still looks like mush too. :\ kinda disappointed tbh
i dunno , all the usual reviewers are raving about the gh7 , but to me its underwhelming. i cant use prores raw as i edit in davinci i have 32bit float on my external recorder already - tascam drl10pro i have cinematch plugin for resolve to match the arri sensor already no increases in slo mo no mp4 lite i dont use frame io so thats useless to me i have zero interest in baking in luts as it limits options in post what am i missing here ? Yes pdaf is great , but its not essential. new dmw-dcc18 usb dummy battery is great. hopefully will work on gh6 Why as a gh6 owner should i buy the gh7 ? im really struggling to find a reason its a lot of cash to drop on a camera with marginal benefits to me :/ i just dont get all the hype.
Because the sponsor of your podcast sells just such cameras perhaps 😛 Feature packed cameras in any format are going to cost more I suspect we are long past the days when the sensor alone was a huge contributor to the overall cost. Same story with regards to size of cameras , no matter what format I use my hands are the same size , I have the OM-1 and for me it is close to being too small . I do think for the folk who want a small but still fully specced camera { not everyone has hands like a gorilla } even at a premium price. Have fewer and fewer choices . The smaller m43 cameras currently available new are either older models or offer limited specs be it build , features etc and especially AF . Though I assume models like the Pen F and my own favourite the GX8 { which I would dearly love a true upgraded version } simply did not sell well enough as my GX8 is coming up on 9yrs and the Pen F not far behind it at over 8yrs . The GM5 has a following as well.
Price of m43 bodies was a bit of sticker shock for me but the prices of lenses and used lenses more than made up for it. That and I carry it for more often because 35-100 is far smaller than full frame equivalents when biking.
With the in camera processing we do before we take the picture ( get it right in camera is more expansive of a phrase now with current camera abilities) these days, Post processing use in language, I feel, is correct.
Disagree with Chris on m43 for portraiture… it doesn’t require high resolution either, and many prefer a softer look for portraits. I have a GF5 with a 45mm 1.8 and I’ve taken magical portraits with that thing - people laugh when then see how small it is. They can’t believe I used such a small rig.
I wonder about the high res for portraits myself. I do have 45mp Nikon Z cameras as well as my m43 gear. But when you look at the crazy resolution of say MF often promoted with portraits , my goodness you better have a perfect complexion as it literally makes mountains out of molehills 😃 Downy hair on the chin of a beautiful model looks like a beard. As a former wedding shooter who had to do a fair bit of cleaning up images to make folk look as good as they think they do. A very high mp camera and the razor sharp lenses now on the market you better be taking photos of babies and young children as for typical adult faces it would not be a winner. I remember playing around with my Z 105mm macro and the resulting razor sharp 45mp photo of my nose looked like a hostile alien planet
Also I would not under estimate the value some of this data can hold. Remember a secret military base's location and layout in Syria was uploaded to the internet thanks to soldiers accidently uploading Strava runs.
Makes sense as a cheap, light secondary system, but not huge heavy and expensive "lesser" crop format. Not in current market situation dominated by FF with some APSC players.
Hard to compete against DJI when its being subsidized by the Chinese government. A ban on DJI might spark some innovation from new companies, but who I am kidding, venture capitalist's will just find a way to bring to market an inferior product at an exorbitant markup.
I didn't expect the call out for RAID arrays. As an old systems/networking engineer I did really enjoy putting together large complicated arrays and getting what at the time was incredible performance. RAID still has a place for handling failed disks, although most of my friends still in the business are turning to software RAID solutions.
While there are plenty of other factors that contribute to the cost of a camera the sensor is part of that , just like every other component though I doubt it is the major factor these days
DJI is built of stolen tech, the CCP is bank rolling the company, and they are constantly mapping through your activities. It is horrible. So mad they are ruining Hasselblad.
my wish , if ever granted, would be the Nikon Ti'28 body from the 80's, nothing would be changed of the displays, thats key, .... and inside a 100mb full-frame sensor, exchangeable lenses, all must be super flat pancakes ranging from 16mm , 24mm, 35,mm, 50mm, 85mm , a zoom 20-105mm must also be a pancake zoom. stabilization must be 12 stops image stabilization. Video res 4k 60fs. .... imagine if NIKON would make it......
I would buy them but the lenses are kind of a shit show when you try to find up to date information on which ones are good. We need new reviews of old m43 lenses.
So hopefully we will see a GH5III with option for Battery Grip… As someone who skipped the GH6 in favour of the GH5II instead, the form factor is not ideal. Luckily for us, the Gh5II still suffices, and should for a while… 🤔
I say this regularly and can’t believe it doesn’t already exist. 35-50-85mm are the three essential primes for most people, and focal lengths ≤28mm are much more versatile as compact primes (think vlogging or street photography). I’d gladly trade the wide end for a proper portrait focal length on the long end.
Kgf is kilograms of force, since technically kg and lb are not comparable as kg is a unit of mass and lb is a unit of force. We should be comparing lb to Newtons and kg to slugs, but outside of science applications nobody does.
I have no doubt there is s place for MFT in 2024. But why only in the top end? Where are MFT equivalent to Fuji X-S20 or Sony ZV-E10? They could work not only as a stand alone product but most small productions need B cameras too. I just can't wrap my head around this missing segment in MFT system.
