Great videos cheers Nancy I am looking at adding some 1.5mm diamonds to a 1.1mm thickness gold ring i made (making it for the first time) I had a 3mm diamond but it is too deep and sticks out the bottom if the band. Therefore decided on the 1.5mm's as they wont protrude! I drilled a 1.0mm hole in some scrap silver the same thickness as the gold ring and used a 1.5mm setting burr as a test - I can gardly see it. How can i possibly flush set the diamonds as the burnisher is as wide as the hole near enough?
Good news. I messaged Chimera Art Space because I saw Nancy did a Christmas event there last year and they said she is alive and well just not doing videos lately. 😊
omg never burn bleed! burn bleed increases chances of flashback. all you do is turn off the valve, then open your handheld piece and bleed the line. NO FLAME.
Not sure if I left a message when I first watched this video over a year ago. But most likely there is an old message in there from me or a comment, but I enjoyed your video very much. I re-watched this three part series because I’m going to be working with this shape of stone. And I I know that you always have videos, probably just about everything. There is in the metalsmithing world and then even more things. I just wish you would really make some more videos. Even if they are some more beginner types or making some really cool pieces of jewelry that you don’t mind people copying you. But if you read my last message. My RU-vid channel is starting. I am super excited. It will be starting out with for beginners. I want to teach them a really strong foundation the way you have for so many of us you have paved the way for a lot of us metalsmith… I really wish I could give you money, but I am so broke. It’s terrible. I absolutely love you to death and thank you Nancy for everything that you have done… you are one of the best metalsmith on RU-vid. And and I’ve been watching you for years and years and years. Big hugs 🤗, Michelle
Where are your shoes , Nancy??? I still love watching your videos. And guess what? I’m finally have my RU-vid channel setup… Yay!!! but I’m having to change my name and you have to wait 14 days. I will send you a dm on IG if you will read why. Super Big 🤗, Michelle
Great technique. The only thing I would change is joining the two sizes of basil wire while they are still a flat sheet then making your bends and failing to size. You can actually make this up larger quantity if you do a lot of basil setting then you can bend and cut to whatever size or shape you need.
You stated you need to use firescoff because the gold has copper in it and therefore can het firestain but then ln the screen wrote that you DONT need to use the firescoff on copper itself...? Confused!
I love your method of teaching. You make things fun and keep things real by letting us know it might not be perfect the first time. Thank you for this video.
oh Nancy i love your vids. 🥰Been binging a little, i just found you this morning. thank you !! i have a question; once you sealed the pieces, did they keep their colour?
What gauge wire were you using for your prongs? I am making a piece in copper and want to make sure the copper will hold the stones, yet be pliable enough to bend. Also curious about which flux you were using. Thanks for the awesome video. Just what I needed!!!
The mapp/propane regulators are expensive because the companies want people buying their oxy/propane kits instead of D.I.Y.ing like you did I'm in the process of getting my bits together and yes, they're a joke for what they are
I use to refill the 1lb bottles After a while the valves on them will leak. They we're neverent to be trusted so I bought some that we're designed to be refilled. Now I just refill the aty supplier I don't even both with refilling them myself. I bought a O2 concentrator and. Bought the RAD 6400 fittings needed to use it with my torch setup. All is beautiful now. I got mine for $200. I am so glad not to need that big tank in my living room anymore. I have a propane regulator on a 20 lb tank and a flash arrestor. I don't have an arrestor on the O2 because it restricted the air flow. If something did happen theachine is with in reach to shit off and I have a large fire extinguisher next to my machine. Appreciate you Nancy. Keep on making.
Thanks Nancy. Appreciate the safety info; would also have liked to have seen how you set up the art work to be etched. How did you create the pattern and what did you use as the resist? (You mentioned vinyl…)
I love you videos. I am a newby to silversmithing and appreciate your DIY tools, explanations and humor. I have made many of your DIY tools and use them regularly.
60's- & 70's . I also had a loom made chokers, Sad part I have none of them now, long story.Get this I lived in Ohio and bought them from Gloria's Glass Garden out in CA.I wonder if they are still in business.
Thanks for the video and for the chart you made (I've printed it out and hung it in my studio for reference) the tape trick is great for holding them all together...I also wanted to add (sorry if you already mentioned) but getting the flex shaft to full speed before running it thru the rings has been very helpful to me. If my speed is too low or variable, I run into problems with cutting them.
