Are there any other Mac compatible monitors that you would recommend? I bought one and realized for reading docs, it’s hazy. And apparently it was not ideal for Mac for some reason. If you have a video on this, please share. Thanks.
the BenQ one featured in this video is a great option. Another great option would be from LG they have some great productivity focused monitors. if you are looking for sharp text just make sure the monitor is focused on productivity instead of gaming
So you use your ipad like a proper work machine tablet, and not expect it to be a laptop. I think that's the best way ( or mindset to have ) to use a tablet because if companies gave you PCOS on tablet, then there won't be a need to make a PC anymore. You can still use a tablet as a normal media consumption device without stress. This is the first video I've watched that treat's the IPAD as an IPAD and not try to make it a MAC.
Absolutely! I think you nailed it. Treating the iPad like a proper work machine and not expecting it to be a full laptop really makes the most out of what it offers. It's all about using the right tool for the job. Plus, it's awesome for media consumption and everyday tasks without any hassle. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Great video, really loved how you organized your thoughts and delivered the messages. I have the same feelings about the iPad and I just upgraded from the M2 iPad Pro to the M4 iPad Pro solely for the display and upgraded keyboard and pencil squeeze workflow. It feels like the most refined iPad experience to date. I loved the old Magic Keyboard but using this new one makes it hard to believe apple made the old one. This new one is the keyboard is the quality i expect from apple at the price point.
Thanks a lot! I'm glad you liked the video. Totally with you on the M4 iPad Pro - the new display, keyboard, and pencil features are such an upgrade. The new Magic Keyboard is incredible; it's hard to believe how much better it is. Enjoy your new iPad setup!
tough to say... the 1TB option brings a better chip and ram so if the matters to you then go 1TB. I have the 256GB model because I store everything externally
I love my 2018 iPad Pro and it definitely has replaced my MacBook as my laptop computer… and my laptop - 2020 M1 MacBook- totally has become my desktop computer. I use my iPad for drawing and creating both raster and vector artwork… and for email and most other things. It is also the computer I take with me as a mobile device. I mostly use my MacBook for layout and printing and as a hub for my external storage… It is usually in clamshell mode attached to my monitor. I love that computing has become so versatile though and I’m glad to (finally!) see someone review the new iPad Pro through the same use case lens as myself and probably many other iPad users!
Using the MacBook in clamshell mode as a desktop setup is what I use to do as well before going the desktop route, I never opened my MacBook! I am curious what apps you use for the vector work on the iPad? Are you in the Adobe suite or have you gone with Affinity? I haven't done much design work on my iPad lately but it was such a fun experience when I did
I got a Mac mini M1 and I forget I have a PC under my desk as well. I mostly use for audio production on a hobbyist level but nothing like a movie production… yet. I recently got Death Stranding on it to test its gaming capabilities, a bit lacking but not bad as well! It’s enough to distract while I take a break from audio mixing. I’ve kept my eyes on the M2 Mac mini Pro with maxed out RAM, but it touches pretty damn close to the base M2 Mac Studio. Nonetheless, I’m super stoked for an M4 update!!
the Mac mini is beast!! But yeah the M4 version of the mini and studio are gonna be huge upgrades I think... gonna try and hold strong to not upgrade whenever it comes lol
It looks like you’re using your iPad almost all the time like a laptop through the trackpad. You almost never use the touch screen and can’t find a use case for Apple Pencil. So what’s the point? Just use a MacBook which is cheaper and can run more advanced apps and OS.
I use it as a tablet on the couch a ton without the keyboard attached. But even then the iPad has a better screen, more games, shares the same App Store as the iPhone, and is way more versatile. I also mentioned in the video I have a Mac Studio so having 2 Macs just doesn't make much sense for me personally
I tried to watch until the end, but you talked so fast that I couldn’t keep up. You quickly named apps that you used and just assumed that everybody knew and understood what you were referring to, but not all viewers do. This comment is intended as friendly advice, just to slow down a bit and explain what you’re referring to when you mention apps that you use. You completely lost me.
I have used the iPad Pro seriously since the very first 12.9” in 2015. It depends on one’s personal software requirements if it can replace a Mac. I did use as my computer 99% of the time for 3-years, but today use in conjunction with 16” MacBook. For some things such as banking, music reading, RU-vid, note taking and reading it is the best, but some software is just not available for iPad which forces me to use the MacBook and even today some websites work better on Mac. But I travel a lot around the world and hate carrying both iPad and MacBook, so am intrigued by screens 5 which I have not heard of before and will now check out
They both have their ups and downs but of course they work best together (classic Apple) I would definitely recommend Screens 5 it’s a great Remote Desktop app. I can’t speak for the experience when connecting to a laptop so maybe just double check on that (battery drain etc.)
I really enjoyed watching your video, I’ve seen quite a few of iPad review or daily iPad usage videos and this is one my of favorites. It covers your usage and is unique from other content creators which I appreciate.
How is the continuity and handoff between iPhone and iPad? Thinking about getting one but it’s between this and the surface pro 11. This will probably be the deciding factor.
it is very back heavy now with the new M4 model, it seems like they pushed the iPad back a bit to fit to function row. its only really noticeable on your lap of a softer surface
This definitely needs to happen! I would argue it’s more on the app developers than Apple (but I could be wrong) hopefully we get better coding apps in the near future
Last line. Desktop and Laptop run the same software. iPad doesn’t run the same software like MacOS. And am sure it can easily run with M4 and people will buy both the Mac and the iPad for separate case scenarios. Hope they realise this eventually.
Hi we see you a lot using the ipad on your lap in the video . Some reviewer point out the lack of stability and « top-heavyness » of the 13 inch model with the keyboard as a major problem but you seem to doing just fine with it .. unfortunatly it is not a parameter that is possible to test in an apple store to get a feel of the experience so could you give us some precisions about this supposed problem ? How was your experience ? If 10/10 was an optimal laptop experience . How many points out of 10 would you give to this combo for the ergonomics on lap ?
Hey! So I actually had had a segment talking about the wobbling, but took it out because it made the video quite longer but I probably should’ve kept it in. Anyways, yes, because the iPad is pushed back to fit the function row it is very back heavy. You really notice this on a soft surface or when you’re using it or on your lap. I wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s a problem but it definitely can be annoying so I would have to say 7/10 for ergonomics Hope this helps!
Thanks a lot for your answer ! Yes it helps a lot , 7 out of 10 sound not that bad . I think it’s a matter of time before i crack and get one . This product is so appealing and versatile . I’m under the spell 😅 . Thanks again and keep going ! Great videos +++
I feel you on State Manager once it makes sense to use I will but now is not. The only thing I would fix from iPadOS is the file manager. Use my iPad for productivity and outside work administrative task.
Believe me I had a 7 minute rant about the file manger but decided to cut it because I went on such a tangent lol. If there’s one thing the iPad needs from the Mac it’s finder no doubt
If its the ipad air with the m1 or m2 chip, that the way to go… the m1 chip is still better than the chip on the iphone 15 pro max, while the chip on the ipad 10 is the same one that is in the iphone 12
The Air has better support in terms of accessories which is huge to keep in mind. Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil 2nd gen support would make me go for the Air personally
@@ConorButkovicThis is exactly what I did. Then purposely decided to try and use for both work and personal and see if I can keep my MacBook Air closed. It’s now been a month and I’ve yet to open the MacBook Air. Love this iPad. Goes with me everywhere and although work uses Microsoft I can still use outside of office for 80% of tasks. Got to keep old magic keyboard, which I love, and added new pencil pro and oh my what a combo. Lastly added Coverbuddy from Moft. Chef’s kiss. That just completes the level of comfort.
i use my M1 ipad with a magic keyboard a lot but my issues are being forced to buy the new magic keyboard if i get the M4 and if i combine those 2 it costs more than a macbook air now, also the combine weight of the ipad and magic keyboard is as heavy if not slightly more heavy than a macbook air with less battery life. I don’t mind the ipad limitations but i can’t ignore the fact that a macbook air has no limitations and for the price of the M4 and keyboard i can’t bring myself to upgrade my ipad and instead i rather get a newer macbook.
I am currently trying to decide between getting a new Macbook Air or the M4 iPad Pro, kind of crazy how the iPad with magic keyboard like you said is more than a brand new macbook... That being said, iPad's seem like the new and trendy younger sibling to the Macbook in my opinion, they pretty much can do the exact same thing as a Macbook and will work for 90% of users as a laptop replacement, plus most people would argue that iPads are a more fun and comfortable way to work and play with one device (you can detach the keyboard, draw on the screen, or just type like a traditional laptop). On a macbook you can only open the laptop and start writing. I personally have both devices myself and I can easily swap between the two to get all of my work done. Another last thing to keep in mind is that the iPad Pro with the M4 chip is more powerful than the Macbook Air with the M3 chip, you also get 120hz display on the iPad compared to the 60hz on the mac. the iPad is a PRO device, the macbook air is not.
I agree with all that you said but I think it’s good to consider that if you go with the IPad and get a dupe Magic Keyboard like the ESR, which is half the price, you can use that saved $ for an iPad with cellular service and always have internet connection to do whatever you need
The price is definitely a huge factor when comparing the two. Having to buy everything new is annoying, but at least we should get a couple years of support for the new accessories (hopefully). And thankfully now the M4 package weighs the same as the Air which has been a weird thing for a while. But still a very valid point as getting a MacBook Air is always gonna be a better choice when looking at the price, macOS is needed in life regardless
That’s well said right there! The iPad is a younger sibling to the Mac, at least in terms of software. Like you said the iPad hardware is much better than the Air
@@ianhull8183 That's a great point about being able to buy cheaper accessories with the iPad but I feel if you truly want the full iPad ''experience'' buying the magic keyboard and Apple pencil are just non negotiables and quite often the iPad is purchased just to use the accessories themselves. But, as you mentioned, if people are looking to save money between the two, they could totally opt for cheaper peripherals while still getting a kick-ass device without paying exuberant Apple prices for keyboards and pencils!
