There was so much innovation in the 1960s. One surprising thing about this bus is that it's lowheight, which complicates the layout around the wheels. I wonder why it was not built as a full height (over 14ft) vehicle.
If I got hold of one of these MCW Metrobuses, the one thing that I would love to do is repaint it into standard RoadCar livery and replace the destination blind with destinations around the Lincolnshire area.....
Please refrain from using such derogatory term that few people would understand. It is disrespectful to the people who spent so much effort to keep the vintage vehicles running in such immaculate conditions.
It might be less refined than a standard London RT, but I would still imagine that a Cravens RT is far from the word "nasty" that you used to describe the Metec-bodied Guy Arabs in the CMB fleet.
Lincolnshire RoadCar used to have a number of MCW Metrobuses; there were at least 35 of them when they were first introduced to their fleet in 2001, and a number of them were converted to open top to replace the Leyland buses in 2004. A number of them were still in use by Stagecoach when they bought RoadCar's parent company Yorkshire Traction in December 2005, but by the start of 2007, the last of the MCW Metrobuses that Stagecoach had by that year were only used on the Skeggy Cruiser as both open top and closed top until the end of the 2009 season.
Such precision using those gears. They couldn’t be rev matched any better. Drives like this made the Bristol VR’s stay alive so long. This driver is so inspiring to watch and to listen to the music he creates between the engine and gearbox!! The VR’s we used to travel on, the driver didn’t know that it was critical to get off the throttle between gear changes. Whoever this driver is he deserves full credit for his driving skills and care for his bus. Watching from start to finish was an absolute pleasure. Top one driver. The drivers we had around here, these days you could claim for whiplash with the jerky downshifts.
I have to reply to my own comment!!!! This driver is an absolute prime example to someone how to drive a Bristol VR bus. I mean, his gear changes were made to the exact moment that the engine required it. His rev matching on downshifting was done to an absolute perfection that put no strain on either the engine or gearbox!!!! Driver, if you see my comment, please reply because I admire you so much for driving this VR
My friend this is absolutely amazing if you can. If possible will you please try your best to do another one exactly like this one but a lot longer because those high rpm upshifting sounds are amazing stay safe man you make amazing content. Have a great one.
Well done that man well driven and treating the old girl with respect and bringing back the fleetline ‘scream’ I remember on the newer WMPTE fleetlines around Halesowen growing up
The engine is very weak after serving nearly 20 years in Hong Kong with all the heavy duty usage, the ZF transmission was reluctant to kickdown to avoid high oil temp

Looks like a bridge bash victim rebuilt as a single decker🙂; a few Dennis Dominators were built new as single deckers but no Olympians. A single deck Olympian would have been most like the single deck Dominator or Scania N113...
remember this bus well from 70s and early 80s Used to run the 53, 36 , 36B , 63 and later the 122 when the formers went back to the route master it was a fast bus & not really designed to work in London
