Recovering from anesthesia can be hilarious. I somehow escaped and was found in the children's ward performing The Princess Bride verbatim as a puppet show. They never did figure out where I got chopsticks and tape to make puppet swords.
As a hospital chaplain in training, I got to witness an autopsy. Most of the other people in training wiht me were terrified of it, but I had gross anatomy in college and I was totally excited to see. One of other chaplains fainted, and one ran out of the room and threw up. But I asked tons of questions, and the pathologist was sooo enthusiastic about it! We became buds. I’d run down to pathology that summer and I got to watch a couple MORE autopsies-he was SO excited about his job. In my next life, that’s what I want to be!
It’s terrifying that anyone in the medical field works even more than 8 hour shifts. I’m fried after 8 hours and my job doesn’t involve making decisions that could seriously impact, or even cause loss of, life. The brain and the body needs rest in order to function properly!
the German non-profit 'sick funds' insurance is so superior to the American for-profit system. There is a for-profit system in Germany but only 10% of the population uses it, the rank and file use the non-profit system and it costs about 20 USD a month for comprehensive coverage.
EBL ok point! Worked as a clinical educator for medical device that actually measure volume leaving left ventricle in real time. Spent the last 8 years working with Ansthesia. Surgeon always said EBL was around 100 ml. We could very clearly see it was not that amount. This explained a lot of things we used to see post op in the ICU 😂
It really depends on what insurance you have. My husbands on Medicare A and B. He’s been hospitalized many times as well as hip and knee replacement and we’ve never had to pay a penny . He’s also had rehab for these completely paid for. We do have a large monthly payment but I’m reimbursed for this from the company I worked for courtesy of union bargaining. I’m tired of other counties dissing our system. At least we don’t have to contend with government doctors or long waits for procedures.
And as a former insurance company case manager, you are spot on. But the one thing that is "not even funny" is there is NO pamphlet. We were trained for three days by shadowing another. The actual regs were published deep deep deep on their website. There were zero written materials for training.
I can speak from having worked psych in many, ER's: never EVER frustrate nurses in an ER. And make friends with security. They are the first on scene in a violence code and possess pepper spray.
You are the right amount of nerd cool. Serious question for you and anyone else that has actually done one of these - what could I inexpensively use to simulate the neck and trachea area to practice on if I do not have an expensive one time use medical dummy?
Pig throats work. Just remember that training does not equal allowance to perform this procedure in an emergency as without the proper official training you might not be covered by Good Samaritians laws.👍🏻
no shit sherlock. No one wants to use a fruit knife for cutting someone`s throat. Could it be that its damn emergency situation makes them use that knife or anything else they can find?
Using the incorrect tools is the same as performing this procedure without being medically trained or as not having trained this procedure regularly. It makes success quite unlikely. It is a highly invasive procedure and you don't want to murder a patient that might not even need the procedure with a butter knife and a ballpoint pen.😅
It’s still used in india today and I remember that when I was young that stuff worked wonders by drying up the wound faster than any other ointment could so can stand by it’s effectiveness
I totally remember my rotation ar Boston Children's hospital with the tunnels through the basement to bring you to a spot where you could access the labs and other important areas. BTW the blood lab was a down there.
He was a smoker and deficient in vitamin C. Vitamin C increases your good HDL cholesterol which prevent aortic aneurysm from forming. I'm not sure why the experts failed to mention that to him.
Has anyone compared the Einstein samples to the corresponding parts of Schizophrenic and Autistic brains? Synapse density and glial content are known to be different than normal.
I think that's what made this so incredible. He did it without general anesthesia - meaning that he was awake and feeling much of what he was doing. From his journal entries it sounds like he actually passed out at one point. So, so crazy.
Hi there!! Lab scientist here. It’s true, they constantly shove us in undesirable places because they could use the better areas for patient facing care centers. 😅
As an OR tech that cleans after surgeries I have a dedicated amount of time after to clean the room, usually 30 minutes. By all means it’s a good amount of time because the OR’s I clean are medium size at best and it really only takes me 20 to 25 minutes on a day where I’m feeling sluggish. Much respect to other workers that have to get it cleaned faster in a more rushed environment.
I don't quite follow the idea of failing non-working therapies, having the condition possibly worsen and only then paying also for the more expensive therapy. Isn't that just bad business, causing more costs?
Learned in med school to speak up about taking a break when on OB/GYN rotation I was shadowing the attending through office hours, then to his urgent c-sections that night…I had breakfast at 6 AM. During the c-section at midnight (third one of the day) the OR lights overheated me and I nearly went face first into the poor woman’s open abdomen/uterus…thankfully pitched myself backwards and sat on the floor. The OR nurses gave me OJ and the attending gave me honors for the rotation. So it all worked out well and I make sure I eat/drink something every 6 hours.
It’s called black silicone tape- the name brand is E-Z Fuse Tape. It seems like expensive overkill for this use but for a DIY grip nothing else will be as comfortable.
Thank you for this video!!!! I love these kinds of videos!!! And it's also so great to hear that the upcoming generation of surgeons are working to make things more balanced, and that as surgeons get more experienced that they don't have to work 24-hour shifts or work to exhaustion!!!
