If you want to find it, feel for the hard part in your throat, move your index and middle fingers from the top of that across your throat so your middle finger is touching the right side of it. Easiest way I could explain it, you kinda just know roughly where to find it once you've found it once
@mahbuddykeith1124
@mahbuddykeith1124 Год назад
For your radial pulse, run your fingers down your thumb to the inside of your wrist. Palpate below your palm, and you should feel a hollow where your radial artery is. There’s your pulse. The brachial pulse is found by tracing a line from your thumb, diagonally to your bicep, just above your elbow. Palpate underneath the muscle to feel the pulse. You generally use this for infants, or when you’re trying to determine blood pressure. You can also get a pulse from the foot. Top of the foot, or the outside ankle.

at age 8 i was in surgery for a broken arm. last thing i remember before going under was someone asking, "should i put her to sleep now?" and, as people distribute the instruments and tools to each other across and over me, the surgeon curtly replied, "she's not asleep already?"
@galamander_1327

@@louisaruth You are not the only one. I met patients which suffered their whole life from panic attacks in hospitals, they felt guilty for somewhat, felt stressed… because of a single stupid remark of the anaesthesiologist or any other idiot around short before inducing the anaesthesia. A single stupid word can affect the patient very badly, because he is in a vulnerable position, especially in an emergency situation . Patients told me so many things in the moment when I started the anaesthesia; that I should take care for their kid, make a last phone call to their relatives, that they were abused as a child, that I should tell their wife/husband they love them, this is for my ears and the ears of my nurse only! The surgeon can step back and shut up his big mouth! Sorry! That you still remember after all the time shows me what both of your doctors damaged in you soul when you were a kid. I wish you the best; try to trust your physician, try to trust your anaesthetist. We are not all idiots. And again: I apologise.

When I asked fellow cardiology/trauma folks in the hospital what they thought my life would be like in primary care, they chanted in unison, “Boring.” Yes. It at times, has been boring. But, after seven years of acute care, a pandemic, and grad school at the same time, … boring is beautiful. Our goal is to manage chronically I’ll patients closely so the don’t go into the hospital. Usually it works, not always, but mostly it works. It’s like Happy Gilmore. “Oh, so I can just put the ball directly in the hole on the first swing? Yeah that’s easier. Imma do that from now on.” Also, had a BLAST buying coloring books and crayons for the kiddos that join the visits. And telling someone who has been trying for YEARS to get pregnant that their test is positive…. My kind of “boring.” Oh, and nobody coded and no coworkers tried to haze me. I loved my work in the hospital but I don’t miss what I had to endure to do that work.

I had no idea how much ultrasound was used for everything until this last year. On top of being pregnant and needing ultrasound pretty much every week twice a week, I ended up with kidney stones that they looked at with ultrasound. I also ended up in the ER after giving birth for high BP with headache and since I had lost like half my blood hemorrhaging they had to use ultrasound in the ER to get an IV in. That was pretty cool to watch. And then they used ultrasound when I ended up in the ER for gallstones a couple of months later. Such a cool tool that doesn't cause any pain or involve going in a giant loud tube for what feels like forever.

I will never insult the ER docs fondness for ultrasounds. I had gallstones for 3 years that went undiagnosed by GI, Cardiology, Pulmonology etc. (they...really didn't know where the pain was coming from). Finally I had one so big that I was turning blue cause it hurt to breathe, and literally within 20 minutes of arrival they had done an ultrasound and found it. Wish the other docs hadn't been so stingy with the imaging...

First interns, then residents, then senior residents etc etc. One time we were in there and saw our regular physician walking past and called out to him - he literally would only stick his head in the door to say hello - anything more would have been a consult.

An (extremely) apocryphal story about ER Paramedics and how they got there, related to the 3rd short It is said that every ER medic that has ever been born has spent a little too much time in the EMS lounge in between runs. As they leave, a code blue occurs in the ER. Foolishly, they run to help. Their help is received and appreciated a little _too_ much Before the Medic leaves, they look down to check their phone, and a look of abject terror crosses their face as they realize that they're in scrubs. In their offhand, they have a note from the Charge with a list of overdue procedures _And they are never heard from by the ambulance service again_ That or they need a once a week PRN job to help pay the bills :p

ER knew they would catch at least two of us and always asked if we could get the radiologist to look at this exam or another even if it wasn't our exam. Our Radiologists looked at no exams before 09:30 and closed shop at 17:00. Heaven forbid if you dropped an exam after 17:00. Do it twice, and you would disappear from all NM dept's in the area. 5:32 as an intern, I had started scrubbing before the Gyn Onc attending had started and was waiting to finish until she finished…she looked at me as I was trying not to finish before her “why are you still scrubbing?” 😫 I said I thought it was the etiquette…she said “that’s stupid, get going”

The idiotic posters are real. I don't need a slogan - I need adequate staffing and instruments from this decade!

I love how the letter "E" in CEO on the certificate is spelled backwards.

This makes me never regret giving up a lucrative career as a surgical assistant for a fancy cosmetic surgeon in Beverly Hills. We were always on time but guess who..nawww couldn't be...then getting yelled at we're off schedule. 😂🎉Bye.

When he said that there are times when you work so much, you don't see the sun, I LOL'd a little. 😂 That's like four months here for an 8 hour workday. The place where I studied was worse. Eaven on the shortest day, I might only see twilight. There's like three hours of sunlight at December.

As a radiologist, can confirm it is VERY disconcerting when the lights are on in the reading room. We do our best work in the dark... 😮

We're very lucky I guess because I've received apologies from every general surgeon we have. Of course after they yelled at me lol. But still, a win is a win.

I'm glad you at least received apologies - but I'm here to say that yelling is totally not okay! ❤️

Now I understand. My dad has been in the hosptial many times and sometimes we have to wait for days for a complete counsult and we dont get why they just dont check him up fast if all the specialities are there anyways. It makes sense the thing about liability and that you cant just "lay eyes on the patient".
