On this channel you will find new, video essays, first impressions and more on MMOs, Multiplayer games, and RPGs. Essentially if it's an MMORPG or tied to part of that title like an RPG or a Multiplayer Online Game, it's going to be covered on this channel.
I got my start with MMOs with Ultima Online, Everquest, Everquest 2, and World of Warcraft but have spent many years searching for new homes in the space. For RPGs, games like Dragon Age, Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance, and even Diablo left an indelible mark on me.
I write books, too! So if you're interested in writing you can find my second channel here: ru-vid.com/show-UCPUuN1cUwQDgJYOdC8Uvccg
Everquest 3 = Pantheon. I trust Darkpaw to run and update old games but I don't trust them to make new ones. Even Pantheon has been rocky in development. People need to remember Diablo 4 and how bad that game is. Studios don't make games, people do. If they do a Diablo 2 Resurrected and just update the old games graphics, that would be fine with me.
They have hinted at their ideas. Just listen to Jim Ham in EG7 most recent CMD (Investor) day and some of Darkpaw's most recent job listings. (Creative Director most specifically.) From a PR standpoint, they just can't give too much information until the decision is final.
I was hoping for a new video today! I'm actually really looking forward to the Origins server. I know you are more of an EQ1 guy, but I hope to see you around in Origins! BTW do you have a discord related to this channel or any kind of community outside of the channel/twitch channel? Speaking of the next Everquest - I think AI has SOOO much potential in the MMO landscape. 90% of EQ1 was basically just a big open world where they put a bunch of mobs.... if they can use AI to generate a world and other things, and just go in and clean things up... it would let them focus on different things and basically let the devs make the most use of their time.
um... actually moment, forgive me, but Holly Longdale isn't just WoW Classic, she's actually the director of the entire Warcraft franchise, not even just the MMO. She's above Chris Metzen, who is kinda considered the heart and soul of WoW.
I played since before launch. 9k + hours, a few bucks in the store, 3 maxed out characters. I don't care about MMO/RPG labelling. What i care about is brain dead devs, the lies, the BS promises, the bugs, the servers, etc. The game really is dead. Die hard players still hang around hoping for change. So many let downs with this game. The console launch won't be as big or good as they are hoping for. They are really more focused on LOTR and just appeasing PC players and adding console. They are 2 years too late for reviving this game with crossplay, controller support, etc. I've moved on to other games like many others have. They don't give 2 hoots about us legacy founding players. It's all about profit margins coming from new players, but it won't last, all new players become old players who get tired of the same BS. The "new car smell" will wear off quickly and reveal its truly a salvaged title.
The music at 42:25 Imagine a remake with that? Sadly I don't think the current team really has the juice to pull something like that off. They're just maintenance mode grinders working the skeleton crew job.
New World was already a pretty much dead game, and changing it into an ARPG might actually work better for the sustainability of the game. MMO's just aint very hot rn with the majority of active gamers today.. I'm excited to try the new format when it comes out.
tired of all these games where its decided that your the Hero right off the bat want world were your no one and through your actions can obtain Heroic status, EQ had that vib.
They want to relable the game as an action RPG for 1 reason, single player RPGs don't usually have content updates often. Now they can sit back and try to cash in on consoles, all while not delivering content to players.
I still play some games like, Elsword, Shaiya, 4story, grand fantasia for the old times once in a while and see how much it changed or what did they do.
In all seriousness i found it is much easier to manage now that im in my 30s. Also feels good spending money on this game verious others that feel like they will misuse or abuse their fans.
5:40 idk man, 1 ability since start isnt the problem in my opinion, ill even say if i would have all abilites since beggining i would be dissapointed, cause where is progression then? XD i think they should maybe give you more basic attackspeed, make the fight more dynamic. 12:00 i like that game is harsh, i mean the should find balance in it, but i really like that no health regeneration idea. 16:30 XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD yeah man im dissapointed now, actually for real, are they serious? XDDDD
Currently that progression of abilities is only through the first few levels as is. You individually progress the skills once you've unlocked them all so it'd just shift lvl 1-4 progression to lvl 1 but also provide more active engagement with the game where cooldowns are very long as is. One of the big issues imo with zero passive health regen that I didn't get into in the vid: Ranged are at a constant advantage. It's fairly easy to avoid NPC damage at range, especially the attacks we saw that have large tells and slow follow-through whether it's a charge or not. I'm fine with slow passive regen, but none doesn't feel difficult, it feels annoying.
I following news about this game for months, long waited pach has finally come out and what we got? they launched console version which costs $70 If I look at the comments of players, they are not positive this game isn't worth the money, im right? my final decision is : i will not buy/start this game it is sad, it is new game, 2 years old, looks pretty nice, It looks like a devs is not normal with their brains xD Don't expect an good MMORPG from a man 55+ ,maybe tetris, but it is all what he can make to gamers
What saddens me the most in many of the reviews of this Alpha 2 is that the people giving their opinions didn't even get past level 5... Aside from the server issues that somewhat spoiled the overall experience of the alpha, I went all the way through this alpha, and even the previous one. I completed absolutely all the available quests and reached the maximum level for the alpha, which is level 15. The problem is that too many people focus on the fact that the beginning of the game is "a bit hard," but actually, when you take the time to properly use all the available in-game resources, the game is really not hard at all! Sure, the game doesn't hold the player's hand, but I think that's a good thing. The only downside for me is mainly some minor balancing issues, but you need to progress in the game to notice them. :/ Corepunk will be a very good game to me.
It's important feedback for them to take into consideration. Onboarding is important and it was specifically what they were testing in this test. It's not necessarily about holding hands, the game actually guides you quite a bit. It's about a lot of it it feeling unfinished, unnecessary, or badly designed. Quests being the primary way to advance due to massive inefficiencies in combat multiplies the issue because it forces players into a gameplay loop until level 5 that will turn off many players, at least in my silly youtuber opinion. If the quests were better and didn't rely on AI voice acting and/or if combat, harvesting, and crafting were also viable to level up from lvl 1 without an associated quest to do so, I think reviews in general would be better. First impressions are the whole story, but they are important to get right, especially for a new MMO. That said things like the phasing issues, bland quests and terrible AI voices aren't just start of game related. And it's not that the beginning is hard I don't think. I wouldn't consider anything difficult in what I played over a few days of testing, it was more frustration than difficulty with the regen because it involved a lot of walking and/or gathering and little combat to progress because combat was inefficient. I know they're doing another test soon which will *hopefully* resolve their server issues, but I'll be interested to see what other changes they make.
