He is absolutely right. Grew up having 0 intentions of joining the military. I went through school thinking I'd live a simple life and just work in business. Now I'm 25 and have been working a typical 9-5 for 3 years since graduating college and know that I CANNOT do this for my whole life. The last year or so there's been a part of me that is saying join the military. I looked at every branch, but the Marine Corps just stands out to me. I'm strongly considering trying my hand at Marine OCS in 2025. I never would have thought I'd be considering this route but life changes you.
Do both. The perspective you gain from having served active as enlisted helps with empathy (yeah what’s that) or at the very least allows you to understand the mindset of your enlisted Marines. I’m glad I did both.
The best duty assignment during my time was at base special services motor transport, headquarters company, regimental headquarters, 1st Marine Division. It was at 13 area. Our barracks and motor transportation vehicles were next to the Base Special Services headquarters. We were not issued any weapons and there were no formations. There were 5 or 6 of us there. One sergeant was the dispatcher and another sergeant was one of the drivers. We transported military personnel to various destinations on base. We would also take Marines and Marine dependents to places like Disneyland and knotts berry farm and even to dodger stadium to watch baseball games. My tour was almost over and I was encouraged to reenlist but like a dummy I decided to get out.
I am a combat wounded Marine veteran. I may be dumb but my check from the VA every month along with my social security pay is better than my brothers retirement. He retired at Lockheed as an accountant. I have no regrets going into the Marine Corps.
I spent a week at Kadena Air base on Okinawa in 1963. I had transferred out of my unit, M3/9 to a naval ammunition depot in Hawaii. But I had to stay at Kadena for a week. During that time I was on my own and not attached to nobody. In all my years in the Marine Corps the best chow in any mess hall I ever ate in was at Kadena air base. It was almost as good as the C rations I had in Vietnam.
I was stationed at Camp Hansen with M3/9 in 63. It was a good place. Everything was inexpensive. The people were nice. I liked to eat in town once in a while But it was hot and humid but not as bad as the Philippines or Vietnam.
So… you don’t know how to be a Marine before joining the Marine Corps. That’s why there is training. But the real training is in the culture. School is pretty kill, though. Shit gets real when you go to a Marine Corps schools. I love you, all!
Safety Brief time so Privates, both Army and Marines, parade REST!@ Listen up men. Most important , you will never reform that hooker or stripper. If you get V.D.,you are damaging Government property. Article 15 time men. And do not go and buy that new used car from Questionable Tony's lot on Infantry Drive South.
I was in United States Marine Corps Recruit Training in MCRD, San Diego, California 50 years ago. I'm now 67 years and 8-months old, and I'll be 67 years and 9 months old next week. Yet, I am actually stronger today than when I was an active-duty United States Marine Corps 0331 M-60 Machine Gunner. Biologically aging hasn't made me weaker, but stronger.
Not sure if this is from administration to administration, but the current one cough unclejoe, I think they are on a mission to deplete the military while we’re on the brink of WW3. China and Russia would run all over us, im really REALLY sorry to say!!
I got I&I duty at MAG 49 upstate NY Near West Point just after Sept 11th 2001. I got stuck on ATFP for 2 years out there due to Zero PMO or security. Not only were we in Camis at Dunkin Donuts to make a quick pickup for the boys on post, but we were in LBV’s with 9mm, and probably another 3-4 clips on the duty belt. Hardly ANY military around there compared to military towns. We looked like we were going tactical getting some Damn doughnuts…😂
Hear me up, They Don't want current people to join the US army, They want the kids to have he gay mentality so that in future all US soldier becomes a gay army.
Keep God in your life and have a relationship with him and talk to him. He is the ultimate judge. This judge will get her time when she stands in front of a judge that is not biased..
Went there in early 2007. There is Infantry Training Battalion (2 month) where you will spend the 1st month training to be a rifleman. Basic patrolling, land navigation, throwing grenades, shooting a rifle. The 2nd month there is some positions available to become machine gunners (M240, MK19, M2), or mortorman. I think they did away with assaultmen a few years back. Or you can stay training as a rifleman for the 2nd month and get more focused training on that. For non-infantry MOS jobs, you go through 1 month of basic combat training where you get familiar with the various weapon systems and then you go to MOS school after that. Lots of hard PT ahead, make sure you stay in shape after graduating boot camp. I had Marines report in the same time as me and no longer fit in their service dress uniforms after 10 days leave and being on recruiters assistance for 2+ months and not PT at all. They got their ass chewed out. Don’t be that guy. You will be doing lots of hikes with all your issued gear. You’ll be running on range in full gear.
I was in bootcamp in the 80's and I wish all young men born in the US had to go to at least bootcamp It shaped me as a man. You are right we had a Gomer Pyle fat body in my platoon who couldnt do 5 pull ups or 15 pushups. I thought the drills were funny in the beginning but later I had the deepest respect for them and later got asked to go to Drill Academy. Drills are naturally funniest. I remember I got caught during basic imitating all of the Drills and I had them nailed. For this was made the guinea pig for all demonstrations and then made squad leader. Oh and we did give our Gomer sack drills (socks filled with bars of soap) when he sleep because this dummy snuck out one night and ordered a pizza and brought it back to the barracks and hid it in his locker. The Night Drill pulling CQ duty smelled and made us all get up and Pt'd us for 2 hours before he confessed
I agree 100 % that's why I got out on my 1st enlistment. I was Gung ho going into the Marine Corps. I went in 1987. At least I served Honorably and went on to because a police officer and retired after 20 years of police service. I do miss the Marines but like you said that toxic leadership and mass punishment.
I disagree, I like wearing my uniform. Maybe not my NWU all the time. I'm not the type of guy to hangout in my NWU going out to eat in it maybe to stop at the store real quick. I really love wearing my dress uniform. I like to wear it when I go home and to look my sharpest while I see my family. I def don't look stupid in my dress uniform i'll tell you that.
