Does the Military target the poor? 

Short answer: Yes Long answer: No shit it’s the quickest way out of poverty. I went from living in a trailer hearing gun shots to owning my own car, buying a house, paying off 30% of the house and having 80k in a TSP by 25.

I wouldn’t say it targets the poor but people from those upbringings typically (not always) are more appreciative of anything they can have and usually do better in a military environment. I bet you can count on your ten fingers how many enlisted Marines came from perfect homes with high or even stable income

I don't think it's a last resort. Sitting at 31 and looking to join the Air National Guard, I think it's a great way for me to evolve as a person and in my career. If I can't join, it's not the end of the world since I currently work in IT and doing fairly well for a single BM. I think people just need to change their perspective - perspective is power, not a prison. I appreciate your content 🤙🏿

The Military no matter the branch has been a way to social climb or improve oneself or station in life. My grandfather a WW II Vet used to talk about moving from being a farm labourer to never having a new set of clothes in his life until he joined the Forces. This is not a bad thing!!! You very well might be saving someone's life in the long term.

When I talked to a Army recruiter, he Initially tried to scare me by telling me there was a possibility I could die as an 11B (Infantryman) if we went to war. Not sure why; it’s possible he was one of the people who felt women shouldn’t be allowed to serve in a combat MOS. Anyhow, I kept telling him that was no problem if it happened, since death comes for everybody eventually. Then I told him I was seriously considering getting Ranger school in my contract. Again, he tried to scare me, saying that people have died trying to complete the course, how it’s hell on Earth but it’s important not to quit, etc. I looked him straight in the eye and said, “Sergeant, the only way I’m leaving that course if I get a chance to go is if I’m medically forced to or in a coffin. Period. If we go to war, I wanna be in the thick of battle, doing my best to stack bodies for this country.” Dude actually asked me if I’d ever considered joining the Marines instead🤣

You know. Shortly after college I was being recruited to be a financial advisor, and it was going well. But I had this feeling of wanting to serve a greater cause and make a difference in the world, so I joined the Army. And that turned out to be the biggest f___king mistake of my entire life. Instead of gaining valuable skills, I was stuck in the back doing stupid paperwork. And when I got out, mind you I already had an education, the only help the VA offered for my "has education, no useful experience" problem was to hook me up with more education via the GI Bill. It was a waste of my time. It was a waste of the Army's money since they paid way too much for a glorified secretary. The only people who won in my life are the parasitic college professors who make their money wasting young people's time. The Army took me from upper middle class to lower middle class. Every holiday season I visit my brother and sisters. They live in houses. Have spouses and children. Meanwhile I spent my entire 30s recovering from the Army and will *never* have a spouse or children. Hell yes the military is only for poor people. If you have *any* other options in your life, pursue that. If your parents are in any way well off, the military is *not* for you.

They’re targeting anyone with an IQ over 87 that’ll sign up. So next step is to determine where your vulnerable populations are. First is children with family who’ve served - just because it’s in their head as an option, and poor kids. Every recruit has a back story. Almost none come in cold with a desire to serve and no other doubts to chip away at.
