Enlisted a few weeks ago at 27 for the Reserves as an 0341. I definitely should have gone in sooner but it isn't too late until it's literally too late. Take that swing and go for what you want in life no matter what. The pride I feel and excitement for the challenges ahead is second to none compared to anything previous in my life. The difficulty for a short period of time is nothing compared to the difficulty of living with regret forever

I doubt you’ll listen to me and I don’t blame you but please consider enlisting for a bit first. I have several friends with degrees who enlisted and have recently become officers. It’s hard to empathize with the majority of your marines the way a good officer needs to if they were never enlisted. You’ll never get the experience of being a private, PFC or Lance. Not saying all officers who aren’t mustangs are bad because they aren’t but in my experience the best officers I’ve had are all mustangs or Warrant Officers. So I really really implore you to consider enlistment even if it’s for a short time it just helps you have the perspective of the majority of the people you’ll be leading.

Currently in my Sophomore year of college and regretted not signing up. I'm killing it in school, but I didn't feel like I was doing anything with significant purpose. So over break I walked into my recruiters office and said, "I want to enlist." I blew the PiCAT out of the water (like 96) and mentioned that I was in college. The whole office was wondering why on Earth I wanted to enlist before becoming an officer (officer is my goal through PLC). I told em, "You can't be a good leader if you haven't done the job you're telling someone else to do"

Don't sweat not being at peak fitness yet, we got Poolees in the delayed entry program where I'm at that can't do a single pull up and clock in their 1.5 mile run times at 19 minutes, but they work hard every day at improving. Take it day by day and make the most of every day up to your ship date. What's done (or isn't) when nobody is watching will be brought to light in boot camp when you either suffer but not too much, or suffer and struggle to even make the cut because you didn't prepare as much as you should have. Best of luck and fight to be worthy of that meaning you crave.

Beside all the tangible benefits (education/financial benefits etc) that are shared across all branches of the military. Gotta say the biggest benefits are discipline and leadership you’ll gained from. I have plenty of buddies in the air force and army and you can clearly tell the lack there of from these intangible benefits comparing to Marines. These two benefits are worth more to a company and future endeavors than any other benefits.

Oorahh Marine. Just saw your video in contrast to another Marine who “finally got out.” Very different perspective and still both content are respectful to our brotherhood. I liked your content which can inspire a lot of young people to make that jump to be one of the few and proud. I was on active duty in 1983 to 1987 during the “Cold War”. I was ready to defend and fight for my country but I was blessed to be in a relatively peaceful time in the world. The Corps is different today and I probably cannot appreciate the changes. One thing for sure, I hope Marines will be equipped with most advanced tools for the job and lose the reputation of being handed down leftovers from the other branches. More funding for the best technology in the field and more funding for advanced education. Semper Fi

Trust that there's always going to be more people close to you against the decision vs supportive but once you start the process and sign the dotted line they warm up to it pretty fast. Not that they don't care about you or want you to fail but it's out of an abundance of care for you and your safety in my experience. My dad wanted me to go AF or Navy like he was and I chose Marines and he wanted me to do a supply or "safe" job but I chose infantry. Made it seem like he'd be super disappointed if I did but now he's all hyped up saying his son is gonna be an infantry Marine so it all works out lol

The key is showing you're serious about it though. If you're wishy washy about it or have that "I'll give it a try" vibe about it that won't inspire the confidence they need to believe you're really about it. We all embrace the suck together and we find joy in the small things whether it was chilling under the shade and finding a good rock to use as a pillow or just being weird with each other. I hated the military, but I loved the people. The people you meet is what keeps you sane because they are going through the same BS as you. the marine corps will definitely get you some basic life skills, some good friends you wouldn’t have met anywhere else, some certifications (if you use the resources) , experience, & free college/trade school that would save you money. four years & done is all you need if you wanna save some money. don’t regret joining but surely ready to get out this year.

I was in the Corps from 2002-2005, I was still a lil bit young and immature, I thought I had all the answers to EVERYTHING in life and I was absolutely WRONG, many years later (17 years to be exact) I wish I would’ve taken it a lil bit more serious at the time and stood in for a while longer and really took advantage of the opportunity of a lifetime … I got a honorable and all but yeah, it could’ve been alot more worthwhile… regardless im still helluva proud of myself for being a United States Marine no matter what!! Finishing my second semester of a two-year college the mistakes that I made were not being accountable and responsible and just dating left and right. High school it was different I was on the football team and we were expected to have discipline and respect including for ourselves and especially the school house. I want to join the Marine Corps because I want that discipline again I want that foot in the door in life that is pushing me. I love to work out even after I left football I got a gym membership and I started working out five days a week, got my Max’s up and surpassed my goals but now I want there to be something else pushing me because I feel stagnated. I’m a busboy at a little Italian restaurant and I don’t want to live this life I wanna leave it behind and go elsewhere. My brother and father my brother he’s a staff sergeant and he’s been in for nine years my father is retired lieutenant commander and recruiter of the Coast Guard and he works for the navy as a civilian. They both supported just like my mother and friends. I want purpose I want to drop my phone drop my games and grow up I’m 20 years old I need a path not a dream. Currently talking to one recruiter and I’m filling out paperwork tomorrow I’m not second-guessing anything I have a DD and I used to take prescription medicine that is the only thing that is against me in this recruiting process but I am willing to push myself to better myself and to leave my hometown. Holding a bachelor's degree, you would be eligible for officer canidate school (OCS). if completed, you would be a commissioned officer. It should be noted, this is not an easy path. The standards officers must meet are higher than enlisted marines. To be successful here you better be smart, adaptable, resilient, very fit and emotionally mature. You can incorporate your education and experience in many different ways. However, you will most likely not be in a teaching role for some time.
