Thanks for stopping by! I used to be an unhealthy corporate lawyer. At 40 I decided to change my life. I switched to a 100% plant-based diet, lost 50 pounds and started exploring human potential across a spectrum mind/body/spirit disciplines: ultra-endurance, wellness, nutrition, mindfulness, psychology, relationships, parenting, leadership, and spirituality.
Now 57, I share what I have learned in talks, books, and on my podcast. I'm also a dad to 4 kids & live in Malibu, California.

I wish Scott would run for president. If not that, at least some political positions of real influence. I'm so tired of hearing people like him speak the truth while there are dozens of 80 year old congress people putting up an illogical opposition.
I really enjoyed the convo. Going to the question on why men don’t follow a guy like Scott Galloway, in my honest opinion as truthful and honest he is, he just ain’t charismatic. He comes off as pretentious and maybe cause he is a professor he lacks street cred. Unfortunately we need athletes and musicians talking like this. Andrew Tate is a kick boxer who kicks ass. The ufc guys the same. Then those guys many times don’t have the brains to be intellects.
I drank for many many years, very socially I may add. Even still, I stopped drinking several years ago because nothing, is better than having a good night sleep and feeling good in the morning.
This white, well-spoken, hetero, male millionaire said HE feels like an imposter. I’m floored. I consider myself to be a fairly confident person, but I’ve recently started to battle with this. Feels good to know it has nothing to do with my race or IQ level.
If you are obese, losing weight can be very dangerous. Most obese people eat 2-5x more food because the "food" they eat lacks, or is completely void, of nutrients. If you eat less food, then instead of getting the minerals/vitamins/protein etc, you need, from eating 5000 calories of "crap", then you will need to supplement so that your body gets what it needs (not brawndo BTW). If you go from say 5000 calories, to 2000 calories, but dont change your diet, you could have many other health issues. That is why Ozempic is potentially very dangerous, it makes you eat less. But as I said, if you do, you wont be getting all the vitamins/minerals etc, that you need. Fix your diet, exercise, sleep, reduce stress, and have some self control. If you are over 18, then you have no excuses for being obese.
You remember that capitalist system that you were a huge part of…Morgan Stanley etc. this is the consequence. The people who are holding up society…teachers, doctors, nurses etc etc are screwed. Welcome to America
Not a second too long. Thanks for this wonderful, honest, in depth conversation with one of my favourite scientists. What a fascinating journey. Thank goodness for citizen science and visionary entrepreneurs. I'm a big fan of Zoe and Tim's "What We Eat" is a great read. Thanks Rich :)
Where did this morning routine concept come from? When did get up, get washed, get dressed, get breakfast (not necessarily in that order), and go to work end? Is that just not interesting enough anymore?
Hi everyone. I had the gastric sleeve two years ago. I was 405 pounds. (Mind you I was always a normal weight until I was 34.) I am also mentally ill. I now weigh 175 pounds. I was a product of 14 plus mental medications over the years that now have been shown to increase hunger and also cause metabolic syndrome. Now at 55, I’m back to my healthier weight. I was warned that I would pick another vice after surgery. I may not be the norm, but this is the best I’ve felt physically in 20 plus years and chose no other vice. My point is if you don’t discover and repair your mind, there is nothing that will help be it a shot, surgery or any thing else. God bless everyone.
Just pubic shame women because wherever the place get ecuallity there is 50% loneleniss epidemic and population collapse, how they have some money and the first cause of divorce is money and if they are making equal or more money than the men most women divorce hard so a male totalitarian society are more happy and dont have population collapse and they have economic grow, because women are really bad for the economy of all, because they dont have children if you give them some cuantity of money, they behave bad wen power and that's really bad fot the economy, shame women, you are bad wherever you go, its not old people is old female people they vote bad and are bad people... behave bad, act bad... its time to fix this, but community will win hard its forecast because 5 people can afford a refrigerator and electric bill but one nope, so most people will allocate in comunes of solar panels and hippie shared stuff because poverty is hard... no jobs and rich people will not give power but comune by a app you can select people and see real references and community always win. Sports centers, etc.
I would love to run one of the franchisees here in Houston. It is hard to go out to eat and you have to still fight the other stuff on the menu. Some are not as strong.
"nobody sees objective reality" we experience objective reality every moment whether we want to acknowledge it is something different the surface of standing bodies of water will always level an objective fact whatever my opinion or yours is about it, won't change a damn thing about it
This guy needs a basic gender studies class, this is such a gender essentialist and ablest bs. Completely lacking intersectional analysis. He really doesn't understand how it's patriarchy that's harming men. And that the statistics he's citing mostly apply to men of color, not all men
Really glad you had Rangan on the podcast. His podcast, "Feel Better, Live More" and your podcast, are the two podcasts I return to as the years go by. You both are wonderful hosts, and Ive learned so much from the conversations you've had. This was my dream pairing haha
Here's two men, aged 60 and 58 respectively, earning their living by selling access to people to hear them talk. Neither one of them, if you laid out the BOM (Bill of Materials), which Investopedia defines as "an extensive list of raw materials, components, and instructions required to construct, manufacture, or repair a product," and all the money required to build, say, a house, would know fuck-all about how to build a house. No, they wear their "cool dude" black t-shirts and sport their Jeff Bridges "THE DUDE" hairstyles (if they have hair) along with their salt-n-pepper beards, and talk about how other people ought to give the money they have earned - through massive government intervention and taxation - to "solve" what they perceive as the most pressing societal issue of today: oppressed masculinity. There is, remarkably, no discussion regarding how either of them sacrifice personally or give of their time or their wealth or how they are personally engaged in improving the condition of young men. Hey dudes trying to hold on to the last vestiges of your youth: If you want to make housing more affordable, use your wealth to short-sell shares of Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo and Citi. Or, be more adventuresome even than that and help increase housing supply by swinging some hammers yourselves on a few dozen Habitat for Humanity projects - or try recruiting some of your Boomer and Early GenX buddies to do those things. If not, you are precisely right - 1381 is coming and it's coming for you. 1381 A.D. : The Peasants' Revolt in England. Although, the American version will be orders of magnitude greater and more violent.
I find driving to be relaxing at times, even in crazy traffic, I just try to be comfortable in my vehicle and focus on the simple task of driving. Can listen to a podcast, music, or just breathe and be mindful. It's not ideal, but even when traffic is at its worst I can at least be neutral, and not adding stress. Unless I'm late, then you can just trash everything I said haha jk
It’s all Fear mongering!! I am on it never felt so good am losing weight and exercising I do eat healthy no side effects !! It’s just a lil group of people that are against it they are trying everything they can to criticize the drugs.
1. In my opinion, ambient noise is the #1 enemy of achieving “mindfulness”. 2. Go to wherever the “sound” of complete silence “stills” you. 3. You’ll hear your own unadulterated thoughts. 4. Seek Silent Seclusion.
I love learning about these profound clinics like this one and the Amen Clinics, but when I look into them they seem so inaccessible for the average American or even a disabled American. My father would benefit from a program like this but he simply cant afford it. It seems like the best health care is only accessible to the richest and less often poc. I am wondering if these clinics or Dr. Alan Goldhamer has any scholarships or programs for those who might not be able to afford this amazing facility on their own. Thanks!
As a medical doctor I agree with a lot of what has been said here from both sides. That being said, it is important to recognize that the large amount of calories required to maintain muscle, as the most metabolically active tissue in the body, is balanced by the fact that overall caloric reduction and increasing fibre and good sources of plant protein, which produces a markedly different insulin and leptin response, has tremendous health benefits and reduces all-cause mortality.
Just a point of clarification semaglutide is a GLP-1 Receptor agonist, not a GLP-1 agonist. It is a GLP-1 analog and basically mimics GLP-1 and binds to the GLP-1 Receptor.
This man is wise beyond his years (and years of marriage, lol). I enjoyed this so much, and much credit to Rich as usual for pulling such interesting food for thought and wisdom out of his guest.
I was very moved by this conversation. I have a person very dear to me starting Ozempic today and I have all kinds of trepidations around it, but am also quite conscientious about having to be compassionate about his choices. Both Rich and Johann were respectful in their dialogue and not afraid of asking the deeper questions. This conversation gave me a lot to think about. I especially appreciated the discussion around reiterating personal agency around changing the food system and the reality of dysfunction solutions to a dysfunctional problem. I sincerely hope the people choosing to take this drug have the resources to hand to deal with the side effects (including exposing old pain) that will undoubtedly arise. Thank you, Rich, for another brilliant podcast.
This reminds me of in the 60's and 70's when l took amphetamines l never wanted to eat !! Hope ozempic doesnt have same dangerous outcomes . Im ok now lm 80 , l have a very small appetite , so im lucky , but im 1 stone over weight ( 14 lbs ) xx
The Lord took me out of the depression of pain, anguish, betrayal, abandonment 2 suicide attempts, loneliness, the emptiness of my heart was filled by my Lord Jesus... I cry when I remember where he took me from, he rescued me and he loved me like no one else...how not to love him...I thank the Lord for everything he did and does for me... I adore you Lord Jesus
