These anti-choice men are always happy to tell women what they need to do with their bodies, but not one has acknowledged the elephant in the room. Human women are not able to procreate via parthenogenisis. Men cause a woman to become pregnant. Maybe there needs to be an 11th commandment: Thou shall wear a jimmy hat. There would be fewer pregnancies if men acknowledged their responsibility and acted on it.

Abortion is pretty much anything that ends pregnancy. A spontaneous abortion is commonly referred to as a miscarriage. Micheal doesn’t seem to have much of an idea about female reproductive care imo.

Edit: The host Forrest himself used the definition of 'abortion' that applies to deliberate miscarriages but excludes spontaneous miscarriages. He clarified it right here 10:29. The formal medical definition of 'abortion' is irrelevant in this context. Colloquially the word abortion only means purposeful termination of a pregnancy, and miscarriages are rarely called spontaneous abortions.

"Miscarriage" is a colloquial term, the actual medical term for that is in fact "spontaneous *abortion*". So yeah, "abortion" means the ending of a pregnancy. The only difference is as you say whether it happens "naturally" (which technically would according to Christian theology means that God caused it) or whether it was induced.

@@sarads7877 Probably. A lot of that call said 'autistic' to me in a familiar way. I know several people that... well, he likely genuinely can't quite tell when he's being offensive. That's where the 'weird' would come in. Regardless of topic or tone, Michael is unlikely to have a 'normal' conversation with almost anyone. Autistic spectrum disorder is a broad and variable condition, and he's pretty far along it.

Being the same as So homophobia ~ "The same as fear" When Im about to be mauled by a lion I feel very homophobic Realistically though if these prefixes are beings used in the way phobia is used as a suffix (fear of), then transphobia would actually mean "Fear of the going to / being on the other side" and homophobia would mean "Fear of similarity". If you want to prevent women turning to unsafe methods and dying during pregnancies and suffering from future infertility, Then vote for women to have safe access to legal affordable local abortions. Women who want to have children have abortions. Women who don’t want their babies to suffer and die have abortions. Women who recognize quality of life for their children diagnosed in utero with life ending and horrific diseases have abortions. Women who have abortions have respect for life and choose to support abortions. Women who respect their own lives and the lives of other women vote for abortion rights. 💜 and obviously men who value the lives of women and other humans do too. Yup. I can honestly say I dislike abortion in general and would not choose to abort a healthy fetus, whether pregnant by intent or accident. That's me. What any other woman chooses to do is their business. Fundamentally also, the Government should keep the hall out of my and everyone else's health care. Not only is that interference usually justified in religious terms that should make it unconstitutional, by criminalising abortion, politicians have the effect of making a whole raft of medical treatments borderline unavailable because they involve a degree of risk to a fetus - no matter how essential they are to the patient's survival.

@dylanpatterson7149 The Bible does not say that. Adam (and Eve) were the only ones who were created first and didn't breathe till God breathed that life into them. All others born since, were birthed the normal way, taking their first breath outside the womb. The Bible DOES say that 'life is in the blood'. An unborn baby begins to circulate its OWN blood by the end of the 3rd week (21 days) give or take a couple of days. That is before a mother usually knows she is even pregnant.

In Judaism, a fetus was not considered a person with a soul. The concept of soul relates to breath and so they didn't consider it to have a soul and thereby be a person until the fetus drew its first breath. At least that's what I remember from my Hebrew school.

The life force ("breath of life", Genesis 2:7) comes from the Spirit (Lord God). With it, always associated with it, comes the (universal) soul ("Son"), which through the body manifests as (lower) "self" or "animal soul" (Greek definition) or "personality". When the mind (later) descends into the body, it manifests as life-related (soulful) desire (Kama ~ Sanskrit).

In Spanish, miscarriage translates to “spontaneous abortion”. Abortion just refers to termination of pregnancy, which can be spontaneous (miscarriage) or intentional (like a medical procedure).

To put it perspective generally around 25% of pregencies result in a miscarriage, (Aka "spontaneous abortion",) most often from causes that could not be prevented (as in, no fault of the mother.) About a further 20-25% of those that do not result in one will have one or more fatal birth defects. Meaning they are either stillborn anywhere between seconds to several yrs due to the congenital anomaly. Even more babies are born with some sort of non-fatal birth defects. SO IN ADDTION: some go away on their own and have little to no impact long term, some are barely detectable (these may or may not be detected inutero or shortly after birth, these may pr may not be low impact long term) some are fine with medical intervention that results in little to no long term medical supoort being needed, others require life long, often heavy, medical treatments but either do not result in death or the child lives past the age of 5 then dies as a result of one or more complications as a result of the congenital anomaly. This does not include injuries or death as a result of medical complications (such as the mother bleeding out during or boefore the birth and dying outside of a hospital setting, which would kill the baby as well,) of the birth or due to birth injuries. People really don't understand how many of our species pregencies end disastrously. They really are they ignorant. Amd we have many of these complications due to bad genetics, mostly as a result of heavy inbreeding. Very few mammals have worse genetics than we are and they're all for the same reason as us. (Think cheetahs. They're population once got down to less than 20 individuals world wide.) We have some of the lowest genetic diversity among mammals alone. You compare us to other animals, and we fair even worse. The common house fly has something like 10x the genetic diversity we due. Sibling house flies generally have more genetic diversity than some random that of 100% English decent does with some rando from N. Korea.

My granddaughter had 6 abortions. She said the pill had side effects abd she never wants children. Her mom and I took her to the clinic and remained and stayed with her when she went home. She is studying to be an artist. It is her body and her decision. Good for her. Pursue your dream, girl.

Essentially, any pregnancy termination can be called an abortion. "Spontaneous abortion" is another name for a miscarriage.

Induced abortion is the medical or surgical intentional termination of a pregnancy. Spontaneous abortion is another name for a miscarriage, like you said, but it's for prior to the 20th week of gestation, and if there wasn't a deliberate intervention. After the 20th week, if the pregnancy terminates spontaneously, it's typically referred to as a stillbirth, if the fetus is delivered with no signs of life. Regarding the verses in Numbers there's some interesting background here. The formulation for the "potion" used here is very specific, it's "dust" from the *tabernacle floor*. Well, the tabernacle was constantly cleaned and it was required to wash your feet before entering. AND it was constantly smoked out by incense. So the "dust" would be incense residue. And what did that incense primarily consist of? Myrrh. (that's why it was one of the supposed treasures given in the Jesus birth narrative) The way we can know that is that from the time the potion is made it is always referred to as the "bitter water". That's because myrrh has a very bitter taste if ingested. In fact the English word "myrrh" derives from the Arabic word "murr" meaning "bitter". So the potion wasn't some random dirty water, it was specifically some amount of myrrh in water. And why does that matter? Well, as a matter of fact if myrrh is ingested by a pregnant woman it can cause abdominal cramping ("her stomach will swell") leading to miscarriage. So basically the ritual is like so many divine tests given in ancient cultures. You put the claimant(s) through an ordeal with an uncertain outcome (drinking a mixture of water and an uncertain dosage of an abortifacient chemical). If the result is negative (a miscarriage) then well obviously God/gods judged them guilty. If the result is positive (no miscarriage) then well obviously God/gods judged them innocent. And as a bonus if the woman is deemed "guilty" of becoming pregnant by another man, the pregnancy is terminated.

There are two or three Christians who object to Forrest's interpretation of Exodus 21:22-23. They are saying that the verses are talking about the fetus, not the woman. And they have a good case. Except, it enforces the idea that a fetus is not considered a person. If you read the English translation of the LXX, it's clear that it's referring to the fetuse. _Exodus 21:22 And if two men strive and smite a woman with child, and her child be born imperfectly formed, he shall be forced to pay a penalty: as the woman's husband may lay upon him, he shall pay with a valuation._ _23 But if it be perfectly formed, he shall give life for life..._ So if the fetus is born "imperfectly formed", so not yet fully developed, then there's just a payment. It is considered property. But if the fetus is fully developed, "perfectly formed", then the husband can get like for like. If the baby died, he can get the life of the offender. If the baby had other issues because of the induced termination of the pregnancy, the husband can pursue corresponding punishment.

Interestingly as well, the Bible never tells us what should happen if the woman herself induces a miscarriage. The omission strongly implies that no punishment would be meted out.

And is fully formed, you can get revenge for the harm to it, including if the fetus died from a miscarriage. At the later stage of pregnancy, the miscarriage is more of induction of early labor. This verse both in the LLX and in the MT do not say "miscarriage".

V 209-210 which make it explicitly clear that the miscarriage has a fine, but the womans life is paid with another life.

Interestingly, the "death for a death" is ONLY applied for the death of the daughter of a wealthy/high status man; for everyone else, it's a fine. Also, the "like for like" is done WAY MORE literally than the way I read Exodus 21:22 - the man who did the striking, isn't the one who is killed (as it is the way it appears on Exodus), rather his (completely innocent) daughter is killed to punish him.

There's Law #17, which deals specifically with the issue of causing a woman to miscarry and outlines the fines based on the stage of pregnancy. The law states: If a man causes a woman to miscarry in the first months of her pregnancy, he must pay 10 shekels of silver. If the miscarriage occurs in the middle months of pregnancy, the fine is 20 shekels of silver. If the miscarriage occurs in the later months of pregnancy, the fine is 30 shekels of silver.

But when these guys talk themselves into calling abortion, killing of "babies", all they can do is pat themselves on the back for every forced birth. And yet they won't take responsibility for all the harms, including deaths of mothers and infants, caused by their stubborn refusal to accept that a fertilized egg is NOT the same as a real infant baby.

I DON'T think that he was referring to women who intentionally self-aborted by drinking alcohol... I believe what he was referring to was women who drink and UNINTENTIONALLY harm the fetus while pregnant... I found this on Google... and I believe it applies to California: "The state's Supreme Court determined that a fetus is a person and that a pregnant woman using drugs that are harmful to the fetus can be prosecuted for child endangerment."

A difficult case in Ontario around 20 years ago: a young woman who huffed paint kept getting pregnant, leading her to have a couple severely damaged children. Social Services tried to step in and say that she either had to have an abortion OR be detained until she gave birth so as to prevent her from huffing paint and destroying the life of a child (brain damage among other things). She didn't want to have an abortion so they detained her. She hired a lawyer and the court decided the Crown did not have the right to detain her so she was released - and had at least one more severely brain damaged child (maybe more - after the court case she disappeared from the news). I always disagreed with that decision but only because she absolutely wanted to carry those babies to term, so it seems reasonable to prevent her from willingly creating brain damaged children, based on HER choice. Because she herself was slowly destroying her own brain and refused to stop huffing paint so was incapable of caring for her disabled children so they were taken from her, becoming wards of the State. Talk about an f-ed up situation.

No, actually. It means if you cause a premature birth and there is no serious harm, then there's a fine. If you cause a miscarriage, then you die. Here is the New International Version "If people are fighting and hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman’s husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise." NIV is suppose to be a more accurate translation from the original text. King James is a word for word translation. Word for word translations often miss the nuances of intended meaning. And before you assume, I am not a Christian.

When it comes to abortions, the better passage is Numbers 5 11-31 where God tells the Israelites that if a husband feels his wife has been unfaithful, he should take her to the priest where she will be given dirtied water laced with curses.
