A lot of speculation and conjecture with this guest. Faction Fighting wasn't a thing thousands of years ago. And the shillelagh as the predecessor to the cops night stick, is a bit of a stretch. I'm sure he's great at giving tours in Ireland, but not much of a subject matter eXpert on the Irish fighting stick...
originally they were two foot oak clubs much like eastern woodland Indian ball clubs. But the british conquered ireland and so the club evolved into a knob ended walking stick. Either way the root ball of a sapling forms the club head.
Can you please touch on this- I will be renting a car in ireland for two weeks and spending a lot of time in there. What kind of adaptor will I need in that case ?
I've discovered Bataireacht (Antrim Style) in 2018 under the Maxime Chouinard's teachnig, who's the only Maistir of this quiet lost style. The grip by the middle is so representavive fron this Northern style, using (as said in the vid) punches, kicks, some wrestling technics & some dirties tricks with the knob or the ferrule. With the Maxime's trust, I've begun studying & teachning this noble art in my town (Dijon France) and built the Old World Faction - Antrim Bataireacht with some friends. We're a fistful practicers in Europe in Antrim Bata (comparing to the well-known Doyle style). Have a look here for more infos :) ru-vid.com/show-UCLZr8Uf5pwCdmq9wtOP-OzA
John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
This is the best advice that I have ever heard, I live in a very dangerous place full of hard men and women, drug dealers, horse traders, money lenders, bank robbers, bouncers, bodyguards, cryptocurrency dealers, bank managers, retired police members, lawyers, tax collectors, government spies and gardeners, I have always feared for my safety as I walk down the street but I do my best not to show how frighted I am, I have just discovered how to overcome my fears, I am now of out to but a heard solid Shillelaghs Irish walking stick, Now those bad boys and girls had better watch and not cause me any trouble As the very great Phil Lynott Thin Lizzy once advised, I take no lip no ones tougher than me.
Hi Molly! The only thing we might add is to bring some "tech" shirts in case the weather is cool so you can wick away the moisture. Layering is key and don't forget the sunscreen!
Hello! Unless you are particularly sensitive to the cold, there is no need for thermal, even in the wintertime. As long as you stay dry and windproof, you should be fine. We know you will have a lovely time in Ireland! Enjoy!
It is interesting as we think of the Irish influence on law enforcement here in the U.S that a baton is from the French word meaning stick, and a shillelagh can also be a short cudgel, or a longer walking stick (or even staff length), & in Gaelic bata means stick, & bataireacht is stick fighting & the term used to refer to the traditional Irish styles that varied by clan. If you are interested look into the Irish faction fighting during the early 1800s.
The Irish shillelagh looks a lot like what many tribes in the New World used as killing clubs. The pacific peoples also had many killing clubs also. This Nice interviewer of this video has lived a very sheltered life.I guess most of the viewer of this Morning news show I’ve also lived a sheltered life
When visiting Ireland, never complain about a Shepherds pie having lamb in it, Shepherds pie is traditionally made with Lamb, if you want the beef version, just ask for a Cottage pie.
I'm Irish most winters pack lighter than you would for a Canadian winter but warmer in summer than you would for a Spanish summer.. Ie its temperate. Don't bring leather jackets take plastic boots with a good sole, tennis style shoes, one really glam outfit for a Saturday night out, some makeup, umbrella, layers cardigans and cardicoats are great under lighter raincoats. Highend northface etc isn't really needed even climbing standard walking shoes or boots in our tiny mountains are fine.
Hi Aretha, We'd suggest a warmer coat and then layers that you can adjust as needed beneath. A warm hat, gloves, and a scarf are handy too. In Dublin, the daytime high temps are in the 40s Fahrenheit and it can be damp so it can feel chillier.
Yes! Ireland and Scotland are such wonderful places. When you're ready, we'd love to have you along on one of our small group, back roads tours of Ireland and show you the very best of the Emerald Isle ☘️😊 inroadsireland.com/
Yes! Many people swim at beaches, pools etc in Ireland and a swimsuit is useful for hot tubs or spa sessions too. Many of our friends swim year-round, braving the cooler waters for fun and fitness. During the summer months, it's common to see lots of people enjoying Ireland's many unspoiled beaches and lakes. So pack your swimsuit and join in the fun!
