As a Jags fan, I don't really disagree with where we are ranked. I love what we have done with Kirk, but after that so many questions. A castoff in Davis, and a WR in the 1st I wouldn't touch with a first round pick
The grade for Oluokun was specifically talking about his run defence. He was higher overall than 22nd in LB grade. Have to look at everything, nit just what goes against what you personally think. As a Jags fan, I think LB is the best position group of the team. It should get better as well.
It’s hard to take PFF seriously with some of these rankings. Devin Lloyd has potential to be an All-Pro! How could you not love Foye and his work ethic?
When ya think about it. A bad interior DL hurts Foye more than anybody else so I can understand the ranking. As far the run game goes. But anybody with eyes can see Foye is easily top 5 in the game today. Imagine what he’d be doing at OLB opposed to MLB where he has to take on DLinemen every running play.
I don't think PFF would rank Foye 22nd in the NFL even though that's where he graded. He has a very balanced grade that I think they value, and I also think that his final grade is skewed by a couple rough outings - as you say - for the whole defense. At one point last year he was graded in their top-5. Lloyd just doesn't get the credit he deserves. Not as many splash plays on the ball as people want, but man, the guy is really consistent as a read and react player in the run game. The biggest issue for him is what's happening behind him in zone coverage. I think he's going to be exceptional in '24.
i personally agree that the core is really good, but we have to keep in mind that pff also made the joke of a list that was the d line rankings. if we’re going to mock the bad we need to keep it in mind when they say something good
Not sure how much impact Chad Muma is gonna have for us...I think he will just be depth and a role player. At times he has not looked athletic enough out there to be a starter...
PFF is a joke. Devin Lloyd has shown flashes...but his 2023 season was FAR from a breakout season. THIS year might be the year though due to Nielsen...Foye is a sideline to sideline tackling machine and one of best LBs in the league. We DO need Devin Lloyd to break out though...its critical that our high draft choices become CONSISTENTLY GOOD players..becoming "Great" would be nice...but I would be happy with "consistently GOOD".
I think the Jags used Lloyd completely different from college. I saw a film breakdown where they compared this College tape with the nfl tape. In college, he played a lot as a SAM, close to the line and was pass rushing quiet a bit. The jax often used him back off the line covering high zones. Maybe they play a different scheme this year (4-3 not 3-4) so we will see 3 linebackers on the field at once more often (offball-LB and not Allen/Walker dropping in coverage) so I think Chad Muma will have a bigger role this season because last year he only played when Lloyd was injured.
@@Black4Cook Yeah i think Nielsen's scheme might turn Devin Lloyd loose...which would be awesome. Dude is athletic and can be a real playmaker for us. I did not like Caldwell's scheme..Nielsen's got a good track record of success and seems to have a more aggressive higher risk/reward scheme. If our back end can hold up we might have a VERY good D this year. We shall see!
@@leevancleef358 Caldwell took over the the old scheme because they played with a 3-4 before. I like a lot from the Caldwell defense but a new wind can maybe put that unit on a new level.
@@Black4Cook Thats what we all want! I am sure a healthy Arik Armstead would have helped Caldwell's D too...but if we can get Davon back to making plays..have Devin step up...Arik contribute...Josh do it again..PLUS Travon break out...man we are gonna cause people problems!
@@leevancleef358 and make sure that the defense doesn't have to stay on the field for 75% of the game because the offense is unable to extend drives and doesn't establish a run game.
We’ll see how the new $200 million dollar Trevor plays in the upcoming season if he’s improved then the team will be improved, but if he regresses, Mac Jones will be standing waiting for his spotlight…
Lol.. how many more do we need to take, till this movement is realised? You cover, with the people, games before the break. And eye will make sure we can cover the last half?
Yes, they are a Playoff team. Houston and Jags should battle first place. Don't rule out Colts and Titans. AFC South will be a exciting in the near future.
This notion that Doug could possibly be on the hot seat if the Jags have an off year, is absurd!!! Doug has had two winning seasons since being here. He took over the worst franchise in the NFL and turned us into playoff team with a playoff win. Doug is in no way shape or form, on the hot seat, or even the Luke warm seat. I matter what happens this season, Doug is safe!! Y’all need to stop with this bs.
I completely disagree. We’ve seen Shad khan hold onto regimes and give alot of chances to right the ship .. Even if the jags win 7 or 8 games and don’t make the playoffs, Doug and Trent will still be back
I still think we need more talent on the o line especially if the injury bug hits us again. If I were Trent I would not risk my job based on the o line staying healthy.
Gabe Davis is far better and more sure handed than Zay, and Williams doesn't fit Neilson's scheme at all. I think you're letting being a fan of those two players keep you from seeing things clearly.
@123shoshan you don't understand what scheme means and how it works in football, do you? To imply Neilson's scheme is garbage because Williams isn't good enough to work in it is just silly.
@@chrayondrayjohnson1635 doofus darious Williams was better than every cormback in Nielsen’s scheme last year in Atlanta so obviously the scheme sucks because Williams played better than all those guys on the falcons
I’m we don’t make the playoffs then the season was a waste. All this talk for nothing. We fire Doug and additional players and start over especially on the defense.
I don't see Shad cleaning house unless we SERIOUSLY regress...but we are going to live and die by Trevor's play...which will be tied to Offensive line....Let's face it...if Trevor turns the corner and becomes "elite"...Doug could be here for another 10 years....if Trevor all of a sudden goes backwards and stinks it up...everyone is done.
I completely agree with this. If trevor puts together the kind of year we're all expecting, i just can't see shad Khan getting rid of doug even if we miss the playoffs. You wouldn't want to risk screwing up his development. If trevor struggles however, then yeah it could be house cleaning
I have been a Jaguars fan since day one with my young son. But the way they fell apart with 3 -4,yrs of first round picks and a QB that also fell apart it’s hard for me to be a fan anymore. . . I think they paid Lawrence to much. He hasn’t been good! Throws the ball away to much and offensive line sucks! So we shall see.
You haven't been following the correct narrative. T-Law sacrificed his first not starting game since like high school, just to ensure the next year's potentially.
Hey Jordan, I'm curious to your thoughts on this, but considering how much more dynamic this defense appears it will be compared to the Caldwell Defense, do you think learning a new system with this many moving pieces might have an adverse impact on how effective the defense will be this year, at the very least the beginning? When, I reflect on that, I start to wonder how effective the communication and understanding of the defense might play a role. When you look at how explosive some of those offenses are to start off the year, I wonder how much that schedule could impact us. Curious about your take on this, and how long you think it will take for everything to fire on all cylinders.
