Brilliant. Question - when you "fix" the spine like an anchor, does the visualisation alone somehow force the body to take the slack out and increase in power? Because in truth there is no physical anchor - so how does the body do it? Seems like if we just visualise the body automatically does it whether we know the science behind it or not ..
@alanngai123
@alanngai123 Месяц назад
Yes, that's how I think it works. Though visualizations produce different effects with different people. Good teachers and coaches are often good at finding the right visualization to elicit the desired behavior for a given student

@@alanngai123 Thanks so much for the reply Sifu! I've seen the this in CST wing chun. Sorry, another question - if you was to use this in a practical circumstance, wouldn't it be difficult? For instance this technique involves keeping a straight spine. But in a real fight, aren't you ducking, shifting, turning, bobbing and weaving? So how could this be used?
@alanngai123
@alanngai123 Месяц назад
@@AK_UK_ Not sifu, just Alan :). It doesn't "require" a straight spine. It requires a connected, holistic structure at the moment of force exertion. It requires a structure that doesn't "bleed" force when force is applied to a target. If you know how to do that, you can be any shape you want that supports the force exertion. It's just easier to learn with a straight spine, along with other fixed variables. For most people, if you don't have the sort of body control to apply these principles under controlled conditions, you probably won't have the body control to apply it under dynamic conditions either.

I'm sorry for saying I'm tired of watching so many martial arts instructors who demonstrate on passive students that just stand there and then they fantasize about how their techniques would work in action in a real fight, of course if dude just stands there and lets you move him here and there it doesn't really look good you know, anyway the students will always say I assure you he is so great and can do what he's demonstrating, when people fight back it never works out this way, yeah there are rules in the UFC, but when's the last time you saw a Wing Chun guy in there?, there's really a reason for that

Knowledge is useless without experience. The students won't have 100% of the teachers knowledge because their own personal experiences are different than the teachers. It's the teachers job to find ways to give the students experiences which provide fertile ground for knowledge growing. I think of knowledge as a little seed, it grows with experience. For example you can teach a student Pak Sau, so it can be said they now have knowledge of Pak Sau, but only by experience over a period of time will they realize the full implications of the Pak Sau concept.

I'll always remember the Seminar in Seattle I had with Sifu Elaimy and SiGung Kenneth Chung. When we went out to lunch it amazed me that when we were all settled in and taking a break from class, Ken leaned over and started talking to me about Wing Chun and demonstrating how you can use relaxed force to disrupt someone's structure and at the end of an 8 hour seminar when everyone went home, it was just the 3 of us and Ken walked over and started punching the Wall Bag. I went over and joined in and he helped me with my structure and settling. I realized he Lives Wing Chun! I hope one day to have my life completely devoted to Wing Chun that way. Happy Birthday SiGung! What a Legend!

Great video. This is subtle stuff not often [sadly] taught in Wing Chun circles. But leg and knee placement is vital to break structure and maximize positioning. The legs have the same techniques [and ideas] as the arms, with the advantage of the opponent's continual weight to utilize.

Awesome clip, great demonstration by Ken showing that one needs to trust the structure and root to create the power through one's elbows and not using tension/reach to try to make something happen. Just wondering where can I find information on Ken's classes like this? thanks.

Alan. Huge respect. Is there a jau Sao (running hand) in the Leung Sheung format?
@alanngai123
@alanngai123 4 года назад
Hi Brad, thanks. I suppose that depends on what you mean. It would exist in any Wing Chun I would think, but it's not a strategy or technique we emphasize or explicitly drill. If it happens, it happens as a result of filling a gap exposed by the opponent, and even then not in a way that would leave us open in return.
