Welcome to myshire farm! We are a family owned and operated quail farm based in Ohio that ships all over the USA. We ship over 1,000,000 eggs a year plus live quail. Our true passion is to educate, encourage and ENTHUSE others to become more self sufficient, and we truly believe that Coturix quail is a wonderful START for people that don’t have a lot of experience and a GREAT addition to any backyard or homestead for quality, healthy meat and eggs. Our focus for the future is to bring you more info on how to be self sufficient in other ways as well but quail will always be our #1 choice. We have Angus cow, meat goats, chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits, bees, hoop house, green house and even a horse. So we hope you join us on our journey to become more self sufficient.

It's so funny because I read in Facebook groups to grind the quail feed, so when I first fed my 2 day old quail I left it how it was in the bag and they ate it all. Took 24 hours to realize that grinding it wasn't necessary. Lesson: do your own experiments to find out if what people say is true and you'll come way out ahead by busting such myths.

I find Tractor Supply to be a rip-off. For a tiny bag of 30% (maybe 5 lbs) it cost me $12 and at my local feed store a 50lb bag of 28% is $20. I priced goat food there and it was about double the price of my local feed store.

Hi, love your videos thank you for taking the time to share your experience and knowledge it gave my husband and I the confidence to give quail raising a try. We live in the city and can't keep chicken so this was the next best thing. We went through some challenges setting up the perfect house for them and with a lot of perseverance we seem to have a decent set up now. Quail are easy and challenging at times but so far worth our efforts just to collect those beautiful little eggs. Found a nerby seller started with 44 eggs and we were able to hatch out 35 with one baby not making it after hatch. 😢 but understood its part of the journey. We are at 18 weeks of raising them and have picked our groups and processed our males. Again 😢 but part of the plan. We have 16 female and 3 male now and starting a new batch. Thanks again for your dedication to sharing your knowledge and joy in life to help others.

I wanted to take a moment to express my deep admiration for the incredible work you're doing. By providing eggs and live quail, you're empowering people to become more self-sufficient, which I believe has the potential to save countless lives. Your efforts are truly extraordinary and are making a significant impact on the well-being of so many. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to this vital work. You're making a real difference in the world. Both Canada's Railways went on strike. Won't be long now. 🙏

Good stuff, very helpful as I am looking into possibly doing this. Question though. I've been looking all over and so far haven't been able to find much information on this aspect..the regulation. Are baluts classified differently than eggs legally/what licenses you need to sell them etc? Though of course I suppose that could vary from state to state. Thank you!

Quail so far from what Ive learned is a lot like Cannabis cultivation. Hatching is germntion, than you mature, sex, cull males (tough like as a male) and put them under the right light cycle and you get buds/eggs, rinse and repeat

My cages are outside but covered by 12x12 open sided canopees with tarps that are top sided reflective. For the past 3 years I have formed painters tarp under the cages to catch the poop. With this poop catching method, I have to replace these 2 times a week. This method was very labor intensive and eventually expensive besides very smelly. This year I decided to not use these painters tarps and let the poop hit the ground. I need to say that these cages for egg layers are in an enclosed outdoor 30ftx50ft cage which allows me to have/manage quail on the ground within the same large cage that the egg laying cages are in. This year, the quail can manage the flies that are on the ground. They (the ground quail) also eat any fly larve that the flies lay. ADVANTAGES: no or very little smell !! no or very few flies !! the quail on the ground get more protein !! no expense buying these painter tarps !! Mosquitos are very little !! AND this year I decided to add ringneck pheasants to my hobby !! So, if your birds are outside, think of having a cage that is larger and encloses your egg layer cages and plan to put some birds on the ground. This works for me, much less expense, and easier to manage. I've tried pinesol, lysol, mint, sticky ribbons, fans, other stuff: none of these worked to prevent or repel flies for me. It's 4 years later . . . BSFs are GREAT. I just had to present the opportunity for them to spread, they did, and now I have cut my feed bill back about 30%, working on making that 40%. The quail SEE THE WORMS under their cages and start going crazy when I scoop them up, put in a shallow dish/tray in their pen. Anything that falls through, gets a chance to be eaten the next day. I was worried about contamination, but it's not been any problem at all.
