My local Thiesen's sells the Kalmbach pheasant starter crumble. The local Farm & Fleet sells (intermittently) a turkey starter that is very similar.

Wonderful

So wonderful that you have gone to such extrodenary lengths to address the feeding question 😀 have you noticed that it's almost impossible to find non-GMO feed? In the the UK they say if it's non-GMO, but don't make a distinction if it is GMO. So one must be careful. God bless 💚 🇬🇧 💚
@MyshireFarm
@MyshireFarm Год назад
Here you can get non gmo fairly easy but very expensive
@tarawell319
@tarawell319 Год назад
@@MyshireFarm Yes, organic is astronomically expensive here, but non-GMO is less than organic feed. Don't know if there's that distinction in the US & elsewhere between organic & non-GMO?

The Family Farm and Home store by me was able to order this exact feed from Kalmbach. So that is another option if they are near .

Do the chicks need medicated or non medicated feed?

Either one. They don’t need medicated

I'm seeing other sources say switch the females to a layer feed at 6 weeks so the high protein doesn't cause egg bound birds. Have you found this to be an issue ? We have jumbos. Thank you 😊
@MyshireFarm
@MyshireFarm 7 дней назад
No I have not. The first few weeks the eggs are smaller anyway
@richnam3188
@richnam3188 Год назад
If quail start laying eggs around 6 week, do you add additional calcium if you are feeding them grower feed until 8 weeks? What are the effects of switching to a layer feed earlier like around 6 weeks?
@MyshireFarm
@MyshireFarm Год назад
No just keep them on the grower feed. You will loose too much weight switching too early
@helendennis7662
@helendennis7662 11 месяцев назад
I wondered this, as I was having lots of laying issues - they started around 5.5 weeks so I did start mixing in layer feed but needed to add extra egg shells as well for a while
@lauraelliston3380

If the 28% grower/starter crumbles are until 8 weeks, what percentage of protien should the layer feed be?
@MyshireFarm
@MyshireFarm Год назад
15-20% but that video comes out tomorrow

I just got my/your eggs today.ezcited to start inqubating tomorrow.We raise garden veggies and freeze and dehydrate many for winter. Will quail eat garden veggies? If so, would we need to shred, dry or pulverize them? What option can work? Thanks
@MyshireFarm
@MyshireFarm Год назад
They will eat veggies and you can just put them in there and they will eat it

Hi , I live in New Zealand and in my area there is very little choice in feed , I can only get a MEATBIRD CRUMBLE with 20% protein , what can I add to this feed to bring it up to 28% ? I love your podcasts and recommend you to every customer I get , I sell quail and fertile eggs , but I am only small time compared to you operation , I look forward to your reply, cheers

You didn't talk about the amprolium. Are you feeding medicated?
@soswanson9120
@soswanson9120 Год назад
In another video, he discussed the amprolium. He is feeding this as that is how the manufacture4 makes it, they do not make a non-medicated starter. He did state in another video that he prefers not to give the amprolium.

There's diy fir chickens. Would like to find a diy recipe for quail. Things are getting bad fast. Tractor supply doesn't have stock all the time and Chewy is overpriced. Wonder if chicken feed can be amended.
