Different approach than mine. I took my time to walk the WHW in 10 Days to experience from landscape, culture and history as much as I can. But nice to see how to experience this trail in another way. Sorry to see it failed in the end, but anyway a brave achievement. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your approach! Taking ten days to fully immerse in the landscape, culture, and history sounds like a wonderful way to experience the West Highland Way. It's fascinating to see how different people tackle the same trail in various ways. Although my attempt was different and didn't go as planned, it was still an incredible experience.
Absolutely, knowing when to stop is crucial, especially when challenging yourself on a trail like this. I'm glad you appreciated the honesty-it's important to share both the highs and the lows of these adventures. Thanks for watching!
i do this trail over 6 nights 7 days love the WHW on my 5th just soaking it all up and enjoying the wonderful scenery and hidden gems on the way thats on offer it is a slog but a great slog taking your time but a two day attempt thats punishment on this trail but hey god loves a trier as they say but this trail can find you out
Thank you for sharing your experience. The West Highland Way is indeed a beautiful trail with so much to offer, and it's great to hear you're taking the time to soak it all in over six nights and seven days. Attempting it in two days was definitely challenging, but it was an adventure I wanted to take on. Every hiker’s journey is different, and that’s part of what makes the WHW so special.
I don't understand 'fastpacking'. I hiked the West Highland Way in April- to me, taking my time, soaking up the amazing scenery, chatting to people from all over the world along the way and feeling joy in nature is why I hike. I know everyone is different, but maybe take it slow sometime?
Thanks for your comments. I personally enjoy the physical challenge of pushing myself, I take a slower pace when I head out with the wife, like on our recent Cairngorm 4000's trip (another of my videos).
I agree with your comments on the fast pa what a fantastic route, all the same ching I think it is an individuals choice. I have tried both and enjoyed both but as I I’m getting older I don’t have any choice but a fantastic route just the same
So many useful points for those considering this route: details of the footing, shots of the summit cairns, with long-distance mountain context shots, and route timings. THX for posting.JMO
Thanks for your comments. It was filmed on the 3rd May this year. The majority of the snow will now have melted, there may just be very small patches around in some of the more sheltered areas.
I printed a black and white 1:50000 Ordnance Survey map of the area, as my main map for navigating. I had a full colour Harvey 1:25000 map in my rucksack and my wife was carrying a 1:25000 Ordnance Survey, neither of which we needed to use.
Many years since I did this...usually in winter or spring when I was in Lairig club at Aberdeen Uni.We used to stay in the bothy Corrie was a fine view when in snow. Good memories Simon Artley Manchester UK
Just a quick trip and packed too much. Hope to do a full fastpacking kit list soon, just waiting to some better weather (too much snow on the mountain tops at the moment) to get out and refine my kit list.
I’m moving here in 2 years from NZ (originally from UK) - can’t wait for mountains on my doorstep - not a bad half! Would the route be runnable with a confident dog you think?
Shame! I'm sure you'll succeed next time. Perhaps it would be wise to divide the 137 kilometers over 3 days? Good luck! By the way, I'm curious to know if you're going to attempt the Pennine way again next year.
I like to push my limits, but probably need to know my limits. Starting earlier in the day would have helped! Finishing the Pennine Way is not currently on my list. Now I live in Scotland, I'll be doing more closer to home here. Some Munros probably in the summer and maybe another Great Trail, but better planned with more manageable days.
Good effort - and it brought back a few memories - I ran the original Speyside Way Race twice back in the mid-90s - it was run as a 50K from Ballindalloch to Spey Bay - organised by Don Ritchie - in the daylight and downhill - far easier!
Thanks for watching. I'm glad it brought back memories. There is now a 50k and 100k Speyside Way race, maybe I need to think about the 100k race so I can complete a bit more of the route!
Wohoo, fabulous video, Jez, and I can't wait to share the trail with you next year and absolutely agree with your sentiment. This is why we're moving to Scotland.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found the drone shots captivating. It truly is a remarkable and tranquil place, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to share its beauty.
