Follow a step my step conversion of a Ford Transit Custom panel van to a full camper van. Time lapse end to end videos, guides, products to use and tips for making the best DIY van. It’s a DIY conversion that anyone can follow with limited knowledge and get the camper van of your dreams.
Hey! Hrmm not too sure.. You can set the temp of the fridge and also separate for the freezing area.. have you checked that? If still not getting cold then might need to contact the supplier.. ours gets cold pretty quick usually within 30 mins when ambient temperature is fairly cool anyway..
Hi - yes it’s a good point! After I had done it a few people commented about carpeting beyond the seal which was a mistake really.. I since went back and sorted it.. I did a video on some errors I made and things I’d do differently too.. it’s here now f you haven’t seen it 👍 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GKJotRfVq4Q.htmlsi=HL8kK8Zll1pICJk9
Hi.. yeah sorry the bed wasn’t in this one.. I did another video just of the rock n roll bed here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kUVrw4AwfU0.htmlsi=MbFi7WIZ-DIc9Qv1
Hi, hopefully you'll see this. Is the voltage on the panel on show 24/7 unless you flick the kill switch? Im worried it will drain the leisure battery if i dont use the van very often but didnt want to install such an extreme kill switch. Could you wire the main feed to one of the little switches so thats what switches the panel on when you flick it? Hope that makes sense
Hi.. thanks for the comment! Yes I think the panel would be on all the time without the kill switch.. I don’t think the draw down would be massive but yes eventually I guess could start to drain the battery… I guess you could use one of the switches as a main switch.. or could use a smaller separate switch you can get small single ones.. I’d maybe bench test it before fitting and make sure it’s all good 👍 good luck with it!
@@TransitCustomCamper Yeah agreed. I have one in my bongo that switches from Leisure, Car and Off which is nice and straightforward. But I'm converting a transit custom and want a much nicer/clean finish. Think I'm just going to install an isolator like you have. They look really bulky though which is a shame.
Great job Very clear… thanks for your efforts ! One question though… what is the big blue lever thingy for in the inlet socket ? You don’t mention it at all, but I presume it has some function otherwise it wouldn’t be there ? Thanks for your thoughts.
Thanks for your comment and checking out the video 👍 The blue “thing” on the inlet is like a clip that secures the plug into the inlet and keeps it secure 👍
Hey.. Yes..It’s connected all the time and when we on hook up usually turn it on to keep the leisure battery topped up. Thanks for checking out the content and the comment too! Very much appreciated and good luck with your conversion 👍
Hi mate - I think I got them off Etsy www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1431675913/2x-premium-vinyl-steering-wheel-sticker?gpla=1&gao=1&&CjwKCAjwhIS0BhBqEiwADAUhc1JuG2S5ckOi3XUls9N872xpXkV_8OqLC37HXu9yAOUOZL5EQKt1ChoCEQAQAvD_BwE_k_&:pla-314261241347_m__1431675913engb_102858184&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADutTMfZrfR4-JDktphZcv9ZXsoAK&gclid=CjwKCAjwhIS0BhBqEiwADAUhc1JuG2S5ckOi3XUls9N872xpXkV_8OqLC37HXu9yAOUOZL5EQKt1ChoCEQAQAvD_BwE
This is the same camera dash cam i bought. I bought the van a few weeks ago.. so will install the rear camera just like you did.. exactly what i was looking for 👍
Ah good 👍 yeah it’s been really good.. just one thing I noticed after I had run the wire for the camera it can detach with a connector which I think would make the install a bit easier 👍
Just came across your channel mate I’ve just bought myself the same van, really not confident with the electrical aspect, great job you’ve done here really high standard
Ah cool mate - thanks for checking out the video and the comment. Yeah I was nervous about the whole thing! Especially the electric side! But once I got going with it the principles are pretty straight forward.. the first time I powered it all on though was still a butt clench moment 💩 😀
Ah great Peter! It was the part of the build I was most nervous about but wasn’t too bad in the end! Good luck with it and let me know how you get on 👍
No actually that was the one thing I didn’t do! When we first got the van I didn’t want to mess that bit up 😀 So I got a local firm to supply and fit.. Looking back now I would probably give it a go 👍 A few other videos on RU-vid people have done it DIY
Hi Dave. I came across your channel yesterday and subscribed as I'm embarking on a similar build shortly. Great content and especially generous of you to share the info regarding pitfalls and mistakes. Just curious as to when the windows went in. Did you do retrofit them yourself of did you have a specialist do them? Thanks and regards.
Hey David - thanks for comment and glad the videos are helpful.. 👍 I had the windows fitted by a local firm. At the time I didn’t have the confidence to do it 😂 looking back now I would have give it a go and not too difficult.. Good luck with the build! Give me a shout anytime if I can help with anything 👍
That’s what she said 😂 Sorry… at first no.. but after I put some screws through the plastic feet on the fridge as opposed to the internal into the side of the cupboard 👍
hi, what is the name of the part you used to cover the wires above the window my van was originally a crew cab and came with a headliner which is now removed and the wires are showing but i cannot find the part you have, any help would be appreciated thanks
Hi Dean - I got all the materials separately and built it all. I did a video here with a break down of all the items and the costs and where to get them in comments with links ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yXjvPr94cZA.htmlsi=jKPSLOPiGZVCLDZf
Have been watching you camper Van build great stuff I have the very same van and was wondering where did you eventually plug your piggy back Blade fuse?
Hi,we're just about to embark on our own conversion ,swb transit custom. May i ask how many packs you of sound deadening material you used used ? I noticed some panels only had small pieces on them
Hi.. Ah great good luck with the conversion. I think I used a couple of packs. I don’t think you need 100% coverage just around 60-70%.. not sure if you seen it but I did this video on all the materials and costs too ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yXjvPr94cZA.htmlsi=BS-3x-ZAPTfg2fDf
Hi loving the conversion . Can I ask if this is a standard transit custom or a long wheel base one. I'm trying to get my partner to think about converting our transit as a retirement project and he thinks his is too small 🤔
Hi! Thanks for the kind comment and checking out the video 👍 It’s a SWB.. We find it plenty big enough for what we need.. but would advise getting an awning too.. We got a Cubo awning and this just really helps make the most of the van and be able to have somewhere to stand up 😀
Hi I'm planning to do the same with my vw t5 and use ikea schottis blinds. I got 3 of them for €31 shipping included. Did you make the pod surround out of a template. The pods to by online are very expensive £200 each😮 Thanks
Ah great yeah! These are well worth a go compared to the cost of the pods! No I didn’t use a template - I just measured up and then had a few test fits before I got the final fit 👍
I always love to have one of these for traveling to another country, i mostly want to take this kind of campervan to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Emirates, that would be a helluva trip for me!
@@TransitCustomCamper hi im struggling to find some liner for my mk7 transit 2008 because on the website they have ford custom but mine a mk7 model and strugging to find some online
Great content.. Did you use silicone either side of the gasket provided and what screws did you use? Going to attempt this on my van next week.. Your video has given me a little more confidence.. 😬👍
Hey - sorry I forgot to reply! No I didn’t use any silicone - but I think that would be good also.. Screws I think I just used some self tappers to get through the metal and then secured to the wood back plate I made 👍
Thanks mate 👍 They came in flat pack form and just had to fix the panels together.. Yes was happy with the finish too and still look great in the van too.. so not a bad budget solution 😃
Thanks for the feedback.. 👍 Think this was only my third ever video and being honest never expected anyone to ever watch them 😃 I tried to improve as I went along 👍
