I’ve watched this a couple of times now and thoroughly enjoyed the quality and content. Your style gets me reminiscing about Jack Hargreaves, Terry Thomas and a Passion for Angling with Chris Yates and Bob James. I’ve recently simplified my own approach to fishing and gone back to the days when craft meant more than barrow loads of equipment. By the way, a big hello to George who I believe was a classmate at secondary school in Rugby.

Hi Alan (Dusty?), You could well be right! Thanks for the kind words. Yes indeed, 'ditched the back breaking quantity of kit on return to angling around 2012 and certainly wouldn't go back. Glad you enjoyed it. We're just working on the next for spring release.

Now that nickname brings back memories! Now only used by friends from way back when. I’ve had quite few years away from angling too, trying different hobbies, however, angling is a pastime that endures over my other fascinations. I look forward to the Spring video. Hello George. I can’t find another way to contact you, but hope you might see this comment and, if still involved with RU-vid, honour me with a reply… I’ve loved watching your content from a few years ago and I’m simply wondering why it began and finished so swiftly? As a busy father, husband, bread winner, one-time author and relatively new content creator, I understand the barriers to ongoing creativity all too well, but I hope you’re in good health and may revisit your channel at some point in the future. Tight lines and all the best, John

Thanks for getting in touch, John. The reason simply is that, initially covid, and then personal circumstances got the better of Eric and I. We do however have a new film under prep, again taking longer than it should, largely due to my technical incompetence, but hopefully you'll find that one to your liking in due course. All the best with your own venture too! George.

What a lovely video. Full of nature but also showing exactly the techniques you have used with the sketches etc I especially enjoyed how you combined underwater canal footage which isn't something you see often. As I have taken up canal match fishing once again I found this particularly informative for thinking about how my perch/worm rigs are working and what the fish are actually doing down there. Thankyou

I just found your channel and I watched every video in a single day. Great work man! I learned a lot and lowered my anxiety at the same time. I'm in the southern USA, I don't need to know how to catch chub, but I was held captive regardless. So many angling channels have loud intros and loud narrators yelling at the camera. Makes me miss so much about the UK, the Grand Union canal around hythe with its beautiful tench and pike that I caught over the years there, the canals in Yorkshire that I had amazing bream times on, carp lakes all over the country. So many places and fishing and I miss it all but I am enjoying my tour and living here in Germany now, the huge wild forest lakes are absolutely stunning and all of them it seems are loaded with fish and most you will barely see a sole as you walk around, but fishing does not come without its problems here with the first being that fishing for a hobby is against the law!! However, that is if they catch you hey! Great video, was enjoyable

What's your thoughts on weight near the hook? I'm currently targeting canal Roach with a few fish of 10-12oz to show for it, I find my canal has alot of tow so I'm having to up my weight to a 0.8g olivette, my hook of choice is a B525 size 16, its the finest gauge wire I'm comfortable with without compromising strength. I just worry that 0.8g will throw the balance of the rig off, brilliant video either way. There's not a lot surrounding such niche campaigns within angling. Its all commercial this feeder that, have a great new year.
@artificialflight1942
@artificialflight1942 Год назад
I'm assuming you purely have the olivette on the line from the way you describe it? In which case, to fish the method in the film it needs to be about 18" from the hook with a BB shot on the bottom 2-3" from the hook. However, as you imply, this is tricky in a strongly flowing canal, and so letting the rig run with the flow and fishing just off bottom may be better. We tend to use a smaller piece of flake or a large punch then 2 or 3no.8's close to the hook to keep the bait down there. I hope that helps, Connor, but if you need more info, do please message again and thanks for raising the query!

I can believe it Kevin. We both love variety in our angling and, for me certainly, three or four trips doing the same are enough. This week, float & bread on canal, alarms & pellet on a lake and then floating biscuits, you can't beat it. Thanks for your comment
@leafysfishing
@leafysfishing Год назад
Thanks for the video.. after watching underwater videos tho it's shown that bread doesn't actually pop up off the deck.. it just lays on the deck and wafts about a bit.. tbh it didn't look to be much different from any bottom bait altho I'm guessing with it being so light it gets sucked up very easily. I'm gonna give bread a go tomoz at the canal as I seem to catch every perch in the canal fishing worm and maggot.. altho I had a nice dace on maggot last time
@artificialflight1942
@artificialflight1942 Год назад
Thanks for your interesting comment, leafy. We've filmed bread underwater too and, while crust stays buoyant, fluffy flake eventually sinks but how soon depends on a number factors such as the tow on the water, weight of hook/line, type & make of bread, freshness of bread, how its prepped, etc. Regardless, if you leave it out long enough for it to sink, it's still going to behave like a wafter and be easily taken, as you rightly say
