In Search of the Forgotten Fish

This film was somehow lost from RU-vid in April 2020 but was reinstated on 17.04.2020
Views at time of loss were around 5k.
Universally ignored by much of the angling world, we maintain that this oft-overlooked fish is a very worthwhile quarry and no less significant than any other coarse fish, from Dace to Carp.
As so often happens in a single-minded pursuit, there can be surprises along the way.
NB: George and I would like to apologise for the inclusion of adverts at the beginning of these videos. Throughout, we have striven to avoid any form of advertising within our films, believing that angling should and could be a world beyond the reach of crude commercial interest. Unfortunately Google have changed the rules of engagement so that we can longer prevent it.

Thank you for your comments Sam. I don't suppose we should be as surprised as we are that the films have appealed so much to so many but, perhaps for the reasons you state, they certainly have. It's very humbling and also a shame we haven't been able to do any filming this past spring of course.

Makes me miss so much about the UK, the Grand Union canal around hythe with its beautiful tench and pike that I caught over the years there, the canals in Yorkshire that I had amazing bream times on, carp lakes all over the country. So many places and fishing and I miss it all but I am enjoying my tour and living here in Germany now, the huge wild forest lakes are absolutely stunning and all of them it seems are loaded with fish and most you will barely see a sole as you walk around, but fishing does not come without its problems here with the first being that fishing for a hobby is against the law!! However, that is if they catch you hey! Great video, was enjoyable

@@artificialflight1942 I look forward to that. I was intrigued by the lift-bite method, which I've never really mastered the art of, but which I am definitely going to persevere with. I wonder what would be the maximum weight of shot you would use for anchoring the bait, and just how close to the hook you would place that shot?

I lived in Woodley ( Nr Reading ) for my early years, and had the Loddon only a little walk away. Silver bream were very very prolific 40+ years ago, and I would catch hundreds of small to hand sized one on free lined maggots. Lovely fun for a young angler.

Thank you for your lovingly made videos! This type of fishing gives me the feeling of being part of nature, of being rooted in it. Not to dominate it. Fishing with less and not exaggerated material, calm, respect ... Great! In Germany we call silver bream "Güster". A species that was often caught in my youth in small lakes but also in waters near the Baltic Sea, called "Bodden". There in bigger sizes. We were already impressed by the big eyes as children.

@artificialflight1942
@artificialflight1942 3 года назад
Interesting question Kevin. I recently bought my Son a box and I wanted it to be light for him but I could not believe the hideous weight of modern boxes! This is no longer made but you can pick them up on auction sites. It comes with layers of trays that can be removed and so I tend to just take the seat and the deep tray as I can either remove it or just lift the seat/lid to access. Sometimes I just take the seat itself and remove all trays then it's super flexible and equally light. It's a Brilo Eurobox.

@artificialflight1942
@artificialflight1942 3 года назад
Yes, it's all in there Richard. In this instance it's a BB. So-sized as to hold down the bouyant bait 3" or so off bottom but heavy enough to tighten the float against, without it slipping sideways. Consequently, whilst it looks crude, it's actually ultra-sensitive in use. Thanks for your interest!
