There is a minor issue, it is using z buffer, if i sculpt near the "border" of the model, for example, if i use grab brushbto pull out an area, the view port rotate when i try to sculpt on this new area.
@@AlHowell if i switch to another option for depth selection, the viewport performance become very lack. To overcome this z-buffer issue, i add the add-on on off toggle to the Q quick menu so i can quickly turn it off temporarily.
That’s awesome! What kind of freelance work do you do? Currently I teach students 3d. It’s my full time gig. I used to do some indie game development and freelance work. I stopped freelancing to spend more time with my family
DEFINITELY get Blender. It’s just going to get better and better at the many things it’s capable of. Remember to contribute to it, if you end up using it. Blender is the shining example of what people can do if they work together - EVERYBODY benefits. But… After trying SCULPTING with Blender, which is _fantastic_ BTW, you discover that you absolutely LOVE it, you’re good at it, and want to get REALLY good… then if you have the $ - definitely get into ZBrush. It SUCKS that Maxon has bought it and are gouging everyone for it but ‘thems the breaks’. Eventually, Blender will catch up to them. I have both and NEED both. I find Blender to be quite enjoyable to work with. ZBrush is a powerhouse, but remember to work cautiously, save, and practice good file management. They both have huge learning curves.
The real reason Blender won’t be on iPad is because Apple’s App Store and Blender’s license are incompatible. BTW Blender’s UI is customizable too but people still complain about it. 🤷🏻♂

can u tell who made the graphic from the thumbnail of this video? I saw it on instagram and I am looking for his profile :| I can't find it anywhere, I think I didn't save it
Why would I pay for software this days? This subscriptions are predatory and I don't have money for all that. I prefer to crack everything until I don't get a serious job. There´s no way they will go for a one time fee. And if they go that route, it will not be cheap.
YO! I already have Zbrush on ipad, with the perpetual license! All it took was Easy Canvas and a fast router! Apple pencil feels great, everything works. Only downside is that it's locked to my wifi. So, yeah, I cant sculpt on a train, but the couch and a movie night is still very nice!
Running Zbrush on a surface tablet with a pen is near perfection, as also mentioned the iPad has the luxury of both Nomad and Forger, with the latter being capable of hooking into C4D on the fly. So if they're going to charge a nominal subscription fee for the iPad, it better damn well be a feature rich experience.
I cannot see a downside. I use Zremesher (zbrush equivalent that spawned quad remesher.) all the time. In zbrush to keep the details, I have to project the details back onto my zremeshed model. I'm sure there is something similar in Blender but I have never done it.
We are maybe impatient, but it would be better if they will release it when its ready and polished. Bad reviewson start no one forgets... Like in photoshop mobile
If the program has monthly costs, it's just about making money, nothing else. It's better to stick with old versions like ZBrush or Blender or Nomad. What corporations are doing is simply perverse.
It's basically them making folders work how it's intended(which worked on an older version) goz crashing when setting manual path(which was also not a thing on an older version) and the big only notable change that affects user life is the gosh darn screensaver, it's been broken for a while too
Personally I'd love this to use as a sketching tool for practicing when I don't feel like doing the full pipeline/booting up my PC and sitting down at my desk. Feel like I could get small practice sessions in easier with this. But with that the pricing scares me, it wouldn't be worth it if it was subscription based (which most likely it will be..) Don't like the overly simplified UI that would mess up muscle memory between PC and iPad though.
Good point about muscle memory… but yeah, for those random moments throughout the day, hopping on an iPad can be way more convenient. It would also slow me to be more social when I sculpt, I can be on the couch still interacting with my kids
Likely there will be a 1 computer, 1 mobile tier for zbrush and 1 computer 1 mobile license as part of Maxon one. IF Maxon one stays the same price and just includes zbrush for ipad, which I think they will because they're likely dropping dev on Forger, it won't be that terrible of a deal.
Would have Zbrush on Ipad except they crushed all artists in their last advertisement. 🤣It would give Maxon an excuse to revamp the difficult UI though.
Thanks! That's hilarious! When people hate on it's usually a dead give away showing they haven't REALLY been in Zbrush long or they haven't tried to customize it.
Long time Zbrush user here, I think the problem is that while it indeed is great once you know where everything is and you customize it to fit your workflow. It is incredibly unintuitive for someone new to pick up and work on. LIke needing to "drop" a subtool on the canvas and getting into edit mode. Or the things that Zbrush does, and it takes years to figure out why exactly it behaves that way. For example, lazy mouse interfering with Zmodeler, scale settings being extremely unintuitive why the same subtool can change sizing going from 1 tool to another., or why the same dynamesh resolution can have vastly different results on the exact same subtool but at different scale.... things like that which will make no sense with someone less than a few years in the software. And that's just scratching the surface. That said, it is the absolute best sculpting tool by a large margin, and those of us who sunk in the decade to truly see its potential can be blinded by our ease to navigate the software. It could definitely stand to benefit from a restructuring of menus, much in the same way that Blender redesigned their sh!tty interface to something pretty good in 2.8's update years ago, which could give people just now learning the software an easier runway to just get started rather than trying to figure out which buttons they need to press in the cockpit before it moves.
I picked up the 2023-24 ZBrush to try out with a bit of a discount. I haven't found any reason to leave my perpetual 2022 license over this last year what so ever. Super disappointed and I will not be renewing. I gave them a year just to realize I waisted my money trying to upgrade.
I’m only interested in the iPad version. I tried the PC version three or four times. After a few weeks not using it I forget everything about how to use it. I know it’s great for people who use it regularily.
Yeah zbrush’s ability to customize your ui is great, BUT it is only great once you understand your own workflow. The learning curve is very steep because actions you do often are buried within different menus, and so when you are new it is hard to remember where all those things are. But once you realize that you do those actions often, you can throw them into a custom menu or hotkey them and start zoomin.
Honestly Nomad sculpt is already way better deal on ipad than zbrush. Like it already made features that zbrush has but better. It has hierarchies, instances, way better curve tools, layers that arent tied to topology and pbr viewport. Plus quadremesher thats same as zremesher. Can´t really see myself subscribing to zbrush on ipad, since i have on desktop if i need it.
Man... Peel UV was looking so good... :( I Dont care about ipad version not because I think it will be bad or because of fees. I simply cant afford/justify purchasing ipad. I would rather get some big Cintiq. But for those with more money.. Sure, that will be cool. I am waiting for that Nomad on desktop though :)
the reason why I left zbrush. I wasn't too happy when pixologic announced that Maxon has bought zbrush and they were switching to a subscription service. However, I thought I would give it a try anyways. The price wasn't too bad, and they had a promotion going on. So, I bought 1yr subscription, and never touched it since. When the year ended, and the subscription was about to renew. I canceled it. I decided that even though the subscription rate was cheaper than buying a full version of the program. I didn't want to buy it every year. here are the main reasons why I more likely won't be back using any newer versions of zbrush. 1. Transparency, or the lack of it. when the announcement was made, there wasn't any real hints of what was going to happen. Didn't even asked their customers how they would feel about it. (Just, here deal with it.) not a good way to treat your loyal customers. 2. After a year, the 2023 wouldn't work unless you upgrade to 2024. 3. Backwards compatibility, any file that you made in 2023 won't work with 2022. 4. having to reinstall any and all plugins in the latest version. (pain in the ass) 5. Didn't see any real upgrade to 2024. Wasn't that being one of the reasons why the whole subscription selling point was about. To help stimulate new growth. 5. That whole Maxon app, made feel like I was being watched, that just creeped me out. Thats about it. I think I will stick with my 2022 version. and when that goes away. Nomad Sculpt looks promising, and Plasticity. after thinking about the reason why I left zbrush. I had to clarify what I meant about backwards compatibility. prior to zbrush selling out to yes, it is a sellout) I use to have. zbrush on my laptop and my home computer. So, when I travel or out and about. with my laptop I could work on a project if I wanted to all I had to do is carry a portable drive with the files on it and vice versa. Now, I can't. I would have to buy. 2 seats, every year that I wanted to work on projects away from home. I am just doing this. as a hobby not profession. what really gets me though is that I can't keep 2023 version, only the 2022 version even though I paid for it
