I’ve been checking out this amino acid therapy they’ve been experimenting with to treat addictions such as alcoholism especially…I don’t drink but honestly…the bouts of depression and the similar hindering things that go along with it….it almost feels like it’s being caused by something I’m deficient in….like it comes in cycles and now that I’ve been working on cleaning up my diet and trying to quit smoking and so on…my body is off/out of balance trying to adjust which is causing the depression to get worse …some days I feel slightly better but it still feels like Ian internal cause desperately trying to get what it needs and I’m not able to figure out what it needs…

When I took my son to see a therapist she said to me "I treat my minor clients the same way I treat adults, that is, I don't share anything with parents unless it's something I'm legally required too" I just said i was fine with that, I kind of thought that's how it should be anyways.

I was very disappointed to hear the way you talked about Christianity. As a therapist, you need to hold yourself to standards of neutrality to other cultures, practices, and religions you arent apart of.

Looking up: Andrew Huberman (neuroscientist) had a RU-vid video about 3 years ago or so, sorry I forgot the title, but it is also part of his morning routine, so watching some of those might help.

Dayyum! Thanks so much. For more than a year, I've been wondering why I am feeling what I'm feeling. But, after watching some million RU-vid Videos, and telling myself "what's wrong with me?", I finally found the video that answers everything I'm feeling. Honestly, thank you so much!!!!!

It's so weird... I am perfectly capable of naming my emotions, but I've had substance abuse issues and been to rehab. They had the emotions circle and they had us irndentify our emotions every day 3x per day. Basically, I felt talked down to pretty much every day in rehab. I believe at least 90% of the people there when I was benefitted from that exercise. I've always been very introspective and I literally don't think I learned anything at rehab. I benefitted because of the 30 day break. I've been clean for 3 years, no cravings, no desires... so wtf is my problem?

Why did she have to tell her she’s depressed, when everything she said afterwards seems perfectly appropriate without the need for that label? Humans are hardwired to conserve energy, so it actually makes a ton of sense that a human being wouldn’t be naturally motivated to do a bunch of stuff that provides no immediate return on the energy investment. I think people who seem to be totally motivated to do a whole lotta things that offer no immediate ROI have a deep hole within themselves that they are unconsciously trying to fill. And like a black hole, the more they accomplish, the bigger the hole gets, because what they actually need can’t be obtained doing what they’re doing. In fact, what they really need(connection and unconditional acceptance) becomes even more elusive as they become higher achieving. It’s okay that Katie doesn’t understand this. She’s been trained under a very patriarchal, capitalist system that sees and treats human beings as machines who must be uniquely broken if they aren’t performing to the standards patriarchy and capitalism set forth. There’s so much that Katie can’t be aware of if she wants to continue doing what she does, career wise.

Because you don't want to do it. Need to defecate? You'll do it. Need a glass of water? You'll do it. Tired and need sleep? When you really need to sleep - sleep becomes non optional.

I don't question that I feel bad, but I have questioned my MOTIVATIONS for feeling bad: "Am I doing it for attention? for love? to avoid success? (maybe subconsciously?)". Then I realized: it doesn't matter. All that matters is how we feel and what we do. Nobody knows what really goes on it the deep recesses of our brains, but that we are built to be selfish and conniving there's no doubt. I believe our ability to fool ourselves conferred an evolutionary advantage. For one thing, it's the ultimate way to beat a lie detector (human or machine). Fooling yourself that you could fight someone successfully might be the game-theoretic optimal strategy, if the opponent was counting on you being rational. They might just decide it's easier to go threaten someone more reasonable (almost like Kissenger's "madman strategy")

The second question about the cycles sounds exactly like the autistic cycle I get into and super common among people who get exhausted from subconsciously masking. The black and white thinking and behavior is also typical autistic thinking. The in between is super hard and maybe even impossible for some people. That requires even more mental work because you can’t not think about it all the time. Again maybe subconsciously but it can also add to dysregulation of a more sensitive nervous system. Also we are more emotionally liable. That’s just part of why regulating is super important! A breakdown/shutdown often involves suicidal thinking. It just does because now you feel like an utter failure for not being able to do something that’s so easy for others. It comes down to feeling dysregulation again. So I’d strongly encourage anyone who can relate to all of this to get evaluated. Because simply knowing how things are different for you and the supports you need can really keep you regulated and prevent this suicidal thinking.

Im not question #8 but I absolutely can relate. I shouldn't get angry because then Ill turn into my father and I can't do that. I can never do that. Now, is that a distorted belief? I don't think so. I learned so much from him and I have his genes. Realistically, the gene pool should've ended with him and I should never have been born to curse the world with more people like my father

For me it's adhd. Executive functioning issues. If I have someone expecting something of me I can get it done in no time. At work I work so hard and then when I get home I have 0 motivation to do anything for myself. It's always been an issue for me and although I suffer from depression as well I attribute this to my adhd more so than the depression.
