In Seattle at today's prices 30 to 35,000 American--most likely less when the surveyor gets done?! I've been shopping these for over a year, I remember when these were new!--------Mikey, Belfair, Wa
If pirates boarded his boat, he wasn’t going to be able to do anything about it , he probably stayed the hell away from known pirate waters !! That would be the smart thing to do,
Worth 20 k. And 75 k work. Deck would have to come up. Interior needs a lot. I bet under that crap over beck is hiding the truth. Look all interior cracks wood that was wet. From now interior shows. She was sinking probably at dock. Pump stop working no one check. And yup. That’s shows it. You got money and time. She look great. Single motor personal I would add gen cross over if engine went down at lease got something can do up 5 notts take you back to port. And add bow thrusters help docking. , I never like those boats. I have older 1987 Carver I got for 9 k. Was upgraded to diesel engine. And I put 20 k in it for my personal likes. Have it 7 yrs now. No leaks
Wow man another really cool video. It's not every day someone gives an honest tour of a real-life, worn out, old trawler like this. She was once clearly a real pretty boat in her younger days but now she's just a MAJOR project for someone with probably more cash than brains I'd say. She needs a minimum of $50,000 (likely $100,000 if you really address everything) of work just to make her less ratty looking - and once fixed up you'll still never ever get your money back as she would sell for less than $100K. Those epoxy painted decks are for sure hiding something Brian. Marine Traders are oftentimes floating leak machines. The costs of the replacement parts/materials and wood isn't where the problem is, its the cost of skilled, experienced labor nowadays in 2024 that's where the big cost is. A person if they wanted to fix up an older Trawler would be far smarter don't you think to get an older Grand Banks or Monk and fix that up rather than any Marine Trader like this. With minimal cosmetic work, labor etc costing $50,000 real fast and a final value of $75,000 (hopefully ) I just don't see this being worth anything more than $25,000 as it is. Hey who knows? There's a buyer for everything, right? I especially like that groovy deep red 1970's tufted leather dinette booth!!! Right out of a classic steakhouse in old Las Vegas. Can't you just imagine how many cigars and whiskeys were consumed there back in the day?
Other than the new engine and tanks, the boat is beat. The teak decks were painted over because they leak and will continue to do so. I guarantee the decks are soft. The interior brightwork is water damaged due to leaking ports. It will be a MAJOR refit. Marine Traders were not very well built despite their ornate interior brightwork. If you buy her good luck. You’d be better off moving on.
Cool boat and new engine and tanks is great. With all the visible rot I’d be scared what’s not showing. 50k is reasonable but still a bit high I’m thinking 30k.
I dunno man… It does have potential if you’re willing to do the work and a LOT of it. I bet it’s at least another 50-100k to get this in ship-shape. Who knows what’s behind all that wood. Personally, I’d save the money and reduce my available space and get a Lightly used Ranger or Nordic. There are Monks out there for half this price in much better condition. I’d truly love to see this boat restored and back on the water. Just takes the right person!
I enjoy your channels, but as you mention, they seem to be scattered. Any chance you might consider consolidating everything into just "two" distinct channels? One for fishing, one for boats? I realize you probably already have that, but if there's a third channel out there, I'd consolidate and shut the old one down. Just seems a bit confusing trying to keep track. I really enjoy your fishing and boat presentations. Unique approach. Stay with it. You're good at both.
Hey, thanks I appreciate that. Yes, I have two channels. The one is specifically for boat walk-throughs and then my fishing channel is for fishing. I don’t do any more walk-throughs on that channel except I might start doing fishing some smaller trailerable fishing boats without boards stuff that people would use in the harbor and then keep the sailboats and yachts on my walkthrough channel. Maybe if those start to takeoff I’ll move them over to the Boat channel as well but the smaller Center consoles are so different from the sailboats and motor yachts. I feel like they would be better over on the fishing channel. What do you think?
@@HarborPilotYachtTours Personally, as a viewer, I'd prefer any and all boat reviews be on one channel, and all your fishing be on another. I understand anyone's reluctance to put their actual name out on RU-vid, but I'd try to figure out a way to make the titles parlay off of each other....ie; Fishing with James Jones Fishing; James Jones Boat Reviews.... Create a "brand name" or catch phrase that's synonymous with both channels. Unless I'm somehow missing that. I seem to lose track of who's channel it is when yours pop up based on the title of your channels. Just my thoughts as a viewer. I suppose I'll catch on eventually.
My original name is going to be Charlotte Harbor boats, keeping it close to my fishing channel Charlotte Harbor fisherman, and I still might change it to that
As a varnisher of brightwork and complete overall painter of yachts for the past 35 years, the Grand Banks have always been my favorite to varnish. I have varnished the same 5 GB yachts for the past 20 years up in Northern Michigan and have always dreamed of owning my own one day. Alas my current financials do not afford the opportunity . 🤣 That remark about splurging on the new galley is an understatement; that’s extremely pricey. On a side note, as impressive as this GB is, I am more impressed with the knowledge of the owner; he is a true perfectionist and yachtsman. Very impressed with this video and the look of that cabin sole, no scratches.
Love NH - but now purple?!? Florida is the “ live free or die state” now- but love NH mountains, country and coastline. Florida is a filled in swamp and unlivable 6 months a year. If NH would change their property tax structure for anyone over 65- I would move back- but that “ ain’t “ going to happen unfortunately. Short sighted in my opinion as All my friends have left the state when they retire
@@IronLady-ej3dp I grew up in Desoto and Sarasota Counties so I'm used to it lol Been traveling and living on my Bristol 32 for the last two years now, from Oriental, NC, enjoying life exploring and seeing places. Usually somewhere on the Chesapeake in summer but there's just so much I want to see yet in Florida lol
@@jasonwright808 go up the ICW to Norfolk hang a right and spend the summer in Maine! Yes it’s filled with lobster buoys but there is a way to navigate them.Been sailing there for over 50 years now and it never gets old
5.9 knots average = around 270 days actual sailing- the rest of the time you are in port waiting through/ hurricane and cyclone seasons and land travel
Knowing one's limitations and being able to realize that an era is over shows greatness. What a beautiful and well maintained Iron Mistress. Fair winds...
Thank you but we all have “expiration dates” and even though I am healthy- the writing is on the wall. So for me, this is purely a age related technical decision
Stunning! What a classic beauty, this is a 'one in a thousand' boat, wow. And at such a fair price. Man do I wish I was ready and able to take her up. Some very lucky buyer is going to get the boat of his or her dreams right there.
Thanks for the astute observations but we are in a recession among other things and it will be difficult to sell anything today when people can’t afford houses and out of control inflation. My bottom paint cost 500 dollars more than 4 years ago!!etc. etc.
Mainship ? What a joke. 130 grand ? B O A T Bust out another thousand. Never, ever buy a mainship. Know to many people who had many problems with them. Besides their reputation is in the gutter . They just aren't well made.
She's awesome Brian. How did I miss this video of yours until now? You always feature the very best and most interesting boats on your channel I swear. But this one is by far my ultimate favorite one of all time. That price is more than fair, right? Tell me what you think about the asking price. TIA. I've never seen a Senator before but I've definitely heard of them. This one looks flawless to me. Those low hours are a plus too. Thanks for another seriously awesome video.
Thanks a lot. I think it was fair priced. I loved all the orange wood work. Right now I’m feeling things out but I may end up strictly focusing on Trawlers. The owner was super easy to work with and thankful as well.
Wow holy cow she's beautiful. Really an impressive vessel for all kinds of occasions. You would definitely know better than me if she's priced right or not. Seems like a lot, but depends on engine hours, hull, etc. A proper survey will decide things i suppose. Hey Brian you mentioned two other boats that might be a better option, one of them being an Albin twenty-something (I forget the other one), and you said they're better quality than this Mainship. Wow man seriously???? I thought Mainship was outstanding quality. I'm definitely no expert and you would for sure know so please tell us more about that if you can. Also in my part of the country it isn't so much the cost of the vessel that is the main concern, it's the length, cost of mourning the boat, that is the biggest issue. A desirable marina near me in Newport Beach California will charge say $1,500 to $1,800+ per month for a 34 foot boat. A cheaper option is San Diego Bay or Chula Vista south of here where the costs are literally half that. So yeah man the difference between this 34' and something say 28' or so is a lot of money per month. TIA Brian
