My intent is to share my knowledge and experiences about photography to others, also I'm learning more about photography myself and will bring you along on my journey and hopefully evolve together!
Just want to thank you for the way this video ended.."and one day they may approach you" i meeded that. I loose faith ao easily. Ive been feeding mine for two years but ive only hand fed greys by sticking my hand underneath the garage door. Ive tried other ways but they havent worked. Yet...
Cute video, and I know it’s older but for future reference you should definitely be careful when it comes squirrels 🐿 and all other wild little fur babies because sometimes they get too used to humans, and will have no fear, they will start just going up to everyone while thinking that they will be as kind/loving towards them as you are. Unfortunately not everyone likes squirrels 🐿 or other little rodents and they won’t be so nice, some people can be really cruel and want to hurt them. All Wild animals should always have a little fear from humans and other animals that can easily hurt/kill them. Great video though, thanks for sharing!! 😊
Great story. I have been trying to do that myself. I offer peanuts but they wait until I leave before eating them. Some of them, especially the Grey squirrels, seem interested and look at me like they want to come closer but are still too afraid. The squirrel in your video is a completely different color from those I've seen in Texas. I have Fox and Grey squirrels and in the west central part of Texas there are Rock squirrels which are black. One of these days I'll have one come close.
Red squirrels are native to Europe, whereas the larger grey squirrel is native to the americas. In the UK the red squirrel is native but unfortunately the grey squirrel was introduced in victorian times - they're a larger species (obviously from texas) hence they're driving the reds to extinction in the uk 😢
@Farlig69 In S.E. Texas we also have Fox Squirrels who often chase the smaller Gray ones. There are a lot of both. In west central Texas there are black Squirrels
I read somewhere that sunflower seeds are poisonous for squirrels but your guys seem to be doing just fine and I absolutely love this video so thank you very much. I give my squirrels organic Brazil nuts and I can't wait for the day when they trust me to feed them by hand
Sunflower seeds aren’t poisonous for squirrels 🐿 but like a lot of different foods, too much definitely isn’t good, and the sunflower seeds as well as other nuts shouldn’t have any salt/sugars when giving them to any little critters!!
I have 3 squirrel friends. Lil’bo, he didn’t come out of mama right. He’s very bo-legged. Mama is my favorite squirrel. She eats out of my hand. Auntie is my 3rd squirrel. She also eats out of my hand. When I’m gardening they climb on me. I keep a peanut in my pocket of my sweater. Lil’bo has made that connection and heads straight for my pockets to find his treat. They don’t bother my veggie garden. I keep water out for all the wildlife. They aren’t thirsty enough to eat my veggies.
@Author, who told you that small animals can be scared so bad they die by simply trying to be near them of befriend them?? No offence meant but that is a stupid thing to promote. If that was true (simply getting close etc. scares them to death) there would be no small animals. The larger predators would have scared them all to death. (*Shaking head* in bewilderment) There are animals that play dead as a defence mechanism such as Possums but they don't actually die from fear. If you meant scaring them so bad they have a heart attack, yes that can happen but very rare and not from simply being around them. You would literally have to be trying to kill them/chasing them etc.to elevate their heart rate extremely high for an extended period.... *Sigh* Don't spread false information like this. It causes uneducated idiots and fools to freak out. LoL.
I rescued a squirrel, but because I had to work I had my husband feed her and I wlould feed her at night, now she's older she used to let me put my hands in her cage to clean and fix her bed now she does a grunting noise, and tries to bite and scratch me why??
I've been taming one squirrel for last 3 weeks or so. It was incredibly cautious to begin with. I left a small table about two meters from my back door where I'd put the nuts on. Took maybe a week for it to recognise it as a food source. I then moved the table closer and closer to my door, each time it notcied something was different, until it was basically next to my door. The door has large glass panels, so I would just sit there and watch it feed and let it get use to my presence. I then started opening the door slightly and presented a spoon with some peanut better on. It would run off everytime, until about 4 days of trying I had it feeding, but would still run off at the slightest movement I done. It then started coming down every morning around 8:30 looking for the peanut butter and I would present it each time. Now it sits there waiting for me and I can just open the door without it running away and can feed it. However, when I try giving a nut, it still runs away, but I'm getting closer! It's such a cool experience.
aren't they fun - i want to teach them to do dozens of tricks - teamwork tricks too; they can talk - and they can listen; toads are really cool too; aloha;
This is similar to how we became friends with a local crow couple. They've never eaten out of our hands, but they come when we call and know that we're going to give them food every day. They even trust us with their babies. In our new house, I'm going to try to become friends with the squirrels after we've turned our paved back lot into a proper yard/garden. But, even without that, I did one day get a squirrel to come onto my porch, right to my feet, and sit on his back legs and look into my eyes. I gently blew toward him and he sniff sniff sniffed my breath to learn about me.
Those are babay juvvie squirrels, they are VERY trusting. The Mom isnt around, then theyre orphans and usually need fostering or are very vulnerable to dying as they dont have the skills yet to protect themselves because Mom is gone. Youre lucky they survived so that you could befriend them. I raised two juvvies and being a squirrel Mom is one of the best things Ive ever experienced
