I love it i do, but you know no one could ever sound like nick. When i first heard nick nit knowing anything about him i honestly thought it was a coloured woman singing like tracy Chapman or something.
Uncannily good cover, with that same cool detachment as Nick, which belies the vast depth of emotion and expression of the human experience which imbues each sacred note.
People who dont play never understand the dedication it takes to learn every part of a song and then to perfect it like this and play it while singing so perfectly. Absolute class
Maybe the tabs use a slightly different tuning. For me capo on the 3rd fret sounds closest to the album recording as well. But I usually just tune it and use the capo depending on what fits my vocals the best.
@@tobiaswildenmusic the tabs i've used have always had the 3rd string tuned to E. that part is right as far as i can tell. i was just curious since placing the capo on the second fret makes it sound wrong to me. and that's what the 'official' tab on guitar pro now says to do. but maybe that's because im just used to playing it that way now. thanks for responding. great music you have here.
I recorded an alternative version of my song Crosswinds together with Takanori Niimura this year in a homestead in Bavaria. Check out his work: instagram.com/takaniimura/ takanoriniimura.bandcamp.com This song, but with Cello, is on my new album "A Path to Open Air II" published by kitchen.label www.kitchen-label.com You can get the album on Vinyl and CD: lnk.to/apathtoopenair2 It's also available on all major streaming platforms.
You've really breathed new life into these songs. So long as we have the ears to listen, true music can never truly die. Thank you for helping keep Nick Drake alive on the internet.
Hi Tobias. This is the only cover I've found that sounds like gets the fingerpicking right. I can see that you're plucking the "D string" on the 2 and 4, for example - something that every other tab seems to miss. I'm struggling to see what you're doing with your thumb. Are you simply playing a sextuplet of C G C G C G, alternating on the 6th and 5th strings, like most tabs specify? Or are you doing something else? I'd really appreciate your insight on this, thanks.
Thanks for watching. I am alternating between the 5th and 6th, but If I remember it right, my thumb picks the 5th string twice in between. I often used that up and down motion of my thumb, so I think that's it. Maybe C, (C 4th string, index finger), GG ,C (4th string, index finger), G. You can see it a bit if you slow down the video.
@@tobiaswildenmusic Thanks for your response to a 12yo video! I like the pattern you've written here. After some intense listening to the record again, I think the pattern might be (format: note + string number): "C6 G5 C6 G5 G5 G5", repeated for each left-hand position. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Hey Tobias! I heard this cover a lot and a lot times! Now, I'm hooked on your Kaki King 2 o'clock cover!!! Astonish! I would like to hear you playing and sing Nick Drake's river man. Greetings from Brazil!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed both. I have an old cover of River Man unlisted actually. If you want, you can check it out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wclx2HKL_Fk.html
Just came across this a couple days ago. As a fellow guitarist (don’t pay attention to my vids 😅), this was amazing. You really do Nick Drake justice. Hope all is well.
Thanks! I actually did a cover of it back in the day. It's unlisted, but you can watch it with this link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BYHrQaoZ2IE.html
I have listened to numerous interpretations of Nicks songs and you are still the most on point and compelling. So in keeping with spirit and essence of the way the songs were communicated by Nick drake himself.
