Yea MT.Fuji is pretty rough if you don’t have a lot of experience and like super cold on top of the mountain like negative degrees if it’s summer if is so hot is Japan but I fell like ten times going down and the hotels are really uncomfortable but it’s worth it because you get a beautiful view and you get to say you climbed mt.fuji which not a lot of people get to say.
Great Video and comments thank you for the extra information and what to take as in food and clothing safety first look forward to your next video Alain⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👏👏👏👏👏😎👍
Great video, thank you for sharing. My dad and I are coming to Tasmania for the first time in August and doing this hike. You said on one of the nights it was minus 40!!! 😮Did you mean minus 4? Because minus 40 is insanely cold haha 😅
Loved your video. Did the track in March and enjoyed the memories while watching it. Liked the copper mine exploration 😊. We didn’t go to old Pelion hut so it was great to see. Your singing added even more enthusiasm to the video. Your food also inspired me. Never thought of taking seaweed or dried mushrooms.
I have a hack to keep the lids together. Use elastic bands to hook the handles of top and bottom pots together. It's not perfect but enough to keep it tidier
Hey. There are normally arrows or rock cairns which you follow to guide you to the right track or summit. Sometimes there would be a pile of rocks to show you where not to go too. Takes a bit of getting used to.
Hey @fitzroyfallz. I use the DJI Osmo Action as my main cam, and then just an iPhone for the 'cinematic' shots. Both have stabilisation. All powered by 3 x 10k mag power banks (for multiday trips).
Please don’t walk off track or drink unboiled water. Please help this wilderness last longer than our hope. If you are millions of years old, we hope hope that you can understand.
After I watched your video I did a little bit of research on the Tassie South West Wilderness and found out what they've done to Lake Pedder 50 years ago. I'm so shocked by this it makes me wanna cry when I look at the before picture of the lake. 😢
hello, need help: Planning this, pick on 17th August a train from Kyoto to Kii-Tanabe and sleep there the first night. Second day wake up early and pick bus to Takijiri and do from Takijiri to Yunomine Onsen, it's around 35 km (I am used to walk and run a lot, I did Camino some stages of 30 and 35 km per day with a rucksack, I'd bring a lighter one since is summer and clothes need to be light). Arrive at afternoon in Yunomine and rest. Third day wake up around 7 AM and walk in chill pace to Hongu, register there as Dual Pilgrim, pick bus to Shingu and visit Hayatama taisha (is it big?) then from Shingu to Nachi should be at noon and from Nachi around 5 PM pick a bust to Kii Katsuura and leave around 6:45 PM there's a train all the way back to Osaka. Do you think is doable? it's a bit rush I know but I am used to do long walks, I did Sarria to Santiago in the Way of Saint James, 110 km in 3 days and half so I'd say I'm fit
Sorry for the late replay. Yeah, if you're used to walking long distances, I think you can definitely do it. The trail is easy to follow, but there are a lot of mountains to go over. You might want to make yourself aware of the bus time tables and bring food, snacks ect just incase you get delayed. Not a totally isolated place, but would villages are a bit far between a not many food options available and limited business hours. Good luck
Hi Alain, nice practical vid. You said that was your day pack? Did you shuttle the rest of your gear with a taxi service then? how many days did it take for you to do that particular route in January? How slippery or snowy were the trail at that time? did you find it more challenging to get accommodations along the way? we are considering doing the trail in January 05, when it will obviously be less popular. Did you enjoy the onsens? I hope it was a great experience for you. cheers from western Canada ( mild winters)
Hey thanks for the comment. Yes, I loved the onsens in Yunomine onsen. I think I booked accommodation 1 month in advance at the time. I recommend booking as early as you can given the Japan is such a popular destination these days. Not sure how easy it is to get accommodation on the fly these days too. Didn't experience any snow like I thought but there may be a chance of ice. I recommend having some micro spikes for safety. I did shuttle my large luggage from Osaka to my accommodation in Yunomine onsen, then onwards from there so I didn't need to lug it around. By the way, check out 'Currently Hannah' and her trips to Kumano Kodo.
Alain, this was so helpful! My youngest and I (they just graduated from college and this is a congrats! You! trip) are hiking the Nagahechi Route as part of a trip to Japan in May, and I confess i was a bit overwhelmed trying to plan for it. Your video really helped clarify some of the fuzzy areas., so again, thank you!
Hey man. No need to register for the hut. Simply just go and camp there. Beds are on a 'first-come-first-served' basis. The only thing you need to register are your trip intensions at the start of the hike in the booklet. Good luck.
Hey! I was reading the comment about where you slept and everything which is very helpful, as I would like to try my hand at the trail in some fasion. I am very new to the whole backpacking thing and I would like to know if you had any issues with water supply along longer stretches. Was that ever an issue? Also, when it comes to sleep, did you run into any issues with authorities or anything? I understand that it is not super easy to find a place to sleep, but I would like to bring a hammock and see what happens. Any info on these things would be greatly appreciated as I am trying to piece together an idea of how I should approach this trip.
Hey sorry for the late reply. I issues with authorities but I just kept a low profile, setting up camp after sunset then leaving early in the morning. Could try a hammock but might limit your camp options. I just went with a tarp and bicycle setup so I could sleep anywhere. Water is also everywhere and lots of convenience stores (combini) along the way. Plenty of no places to restock. Hope it all goes well for you and good luck.
Whole eggs. Daring. I like it. Looks like you have your caloric density dialed down pretty well. Have you watched the Gear Skeptic here on YT? Nice job my friend.
Watching you pack down your kit after the first night had me in awe. New to hiking, and that set up amazes me! Hoping to do overnighters one day, and this video has given me much inspiration.
