Using Roland Cloud has been brilliant, all JV1080 functions easy to access on UI and all the SR-Boards - use straight in the DAW ----- BUT ----- I still look at the industrial black box and want to buy one just cause it looks so cool imo
IT came out of the stand in 1997,that year i listen to it in a store music in Montauban,but because of the price more than 2500 $ i bougth an Harmonica!!so i wait till 2008 FOR buying one!!to a german punk group!one ic were broken and it was a simple side,so i resold the tracks with electric wire!!!!so i resold it after!so if you got a JP 8000 resolding it's certainely this one!!
I went through the full recap process after watching this video several times. I had a couple pads come off and did my best to graft. The board will semi - boot. I get backlight and the "R" on the screen and then all the text goes away. No sound either. Anyone with experience willing to service the board for me (paid) or offer some troubleshooting?
I have two of these. The first one failed some months ago, and since it was still in warranty Polk sent a replacement power supply board. That solved the problem, but it never sounded as good as the original did. And then yesterday, the second one (which I use with my computer) died. Before its death, that one sounded incredible. I must have had it very well adjusted for that environment. Consequently, I am done with this and have bought a non-Polk replacement for the computer which should arrive in a few days. Perhaps I will try to replace caps on the dead ps board, but I find that the time required to procure parts, dis- and reassemble, and swap parts is probably not work my hourly pay rate. So more than likely, this second dead subwoofer will just sit around unusued until I can work up the nerve to just dispose of it. On the other had, it does have a perfectly good driver and could be externally powered. Maybe that's good enough reason to let it clutter my space a while longer.

I have a 2500R where the F/I switch always releases. I Suspect an error current, but i cannot measure this. Do you have a suggestion what the cause could be ?
Everyone talks about The "Tiled Room" that is in Rev 2.2 is there a way to add this room to the 3.01 version. I have that version. If everything is full, then maybe deleting something?
AJ-1s always seem to have broken plastic on the back. Also, their keybed circuit boards are prone to corrosion. Backlights are spotty on both models. AJ-2 build quality is much better. Pitch bend is often broken, and the plastic "hinge" on the pitch bend mech will eventually crack. Always wise to rebuild the power supply. AJ-2 is a little harder to work on as the main circuit board is tucked up inside under the keybed.
I need to report this. I just took down pages of notes from your video in order to start the work on an XP50 that canme to me, no screen, no output. I put it on my bench tonight and turned it on to see the symptoms. The LED screen came alive with patches, numbers, etc.. And it sounds like a million bucks, big rich wide stereo tones. I'm kinda baffled. It had been dead in the water from the owner and something happened that brought it back. Well, at least for now. I'm sure those capacitor are getting ready for a cat pee fest. Hey Bradthx, cheers for this video. I've got a jv1080 that has no sound unless I quickly turn the power on and off to where the screen doesn't go black during power cycle, and some of the waveforms (not all) are distorted on playback. Inside looks really clean, but I'm about to inspect it. Any chance you could know what might be going on?
Found the problem, it was the white ribbon cable very dirty inside, also keybed ribbon was out of socket, I have to see if I can find that white ribbon cable, I want to replace.

Eu acabo de comprar um xp50 usado, com defeito. Ao ligar, o display acende sem caracteres nenhum, não existe som, não existe nenhum led de botão. Esta morto. Apenas acende o display sem dados. Irei substituir todos os capacitores da placa, mas você arriscaria um palpite do qhe eu posso verificar pra entender porque ele está morto? Obrigado
Compared to AKAI’s previous samplers like the 1000, 2000 and 3000 series, the S5000 and S6000 were a massive Relief, Finally a sampler that could do what other samplers couldn’t: 256 Mb of memory doesn’t sound like much these days, but it still enabled you to record 3 minutes of 16-track recording at 48 KHz, and if that wasn’t enough, the virtual sampling feature with recording Directly onto the harddrive was simply Unheard of in those days, and it left AKAI miles ahead of its nearest rival, the Kurzweil. USB connectivity, 16 channels, 128 voice polyphony, the option of putting in a HD really put the S6000 at the Top of the wishlist for many recording studios. And the sound quality, well Nothing beats the AKAI, not even now. The difference between the S5000 and the S6000 was that came as standard in the S5000 were optional extras in the the S5000, which was basically a cheaper starting point.

Thank Brad Have a rather lengthly question. I bought a k2500x In good condition, I added 128mb Sample 30-pin RAM, and tried to build the PRAM board that is out there on the internet. Something went wrong and I bluescreened the unit. I bought a Second k2500xs on ebay (sampler module was unknown at the time) had all the innards removed except the keyboard to try to build one unit out of two. This new unit is a uses 72-pin Sample RAM. I am trying to isolate the bad board and replace with a newer board. 1. Knowing I blew the first unit with PRAM, what boards were affected in the first unit, 2500x. 2. Can i interchange these boards at all between the A-J Model and the K model? 3. This second unit may also be a bluescreen of Death. What board would be affected for that? 4. Any last suggestions. Thanks for any help.
Hi just found your video I have 1 of these but expansion won't work tried all 4 slots the wires were taught and plug wobbles buy looks connected. Is this common or think that's the fault why expansion won't work. Thanks👍👍
Hey bradthx! Thanks for the great videos. I upgraded my studio-park with a K2500RS with all ROMs in. But apart from my K200R V3 with Sample-Board in the insert-cable connection to my patch-bay didn't work on the left channel for A. And I wondered why (on my K2000R it worked like charm). So I opened my K2.5 and wondered to see that the transistor Q1 on the connector board is missing. Obviously, something the previous owner didn't mention when selling it on ebay. Additionally, the capacitors C09 and C10 (1000pF) were cut through or simply damaged, i dunno. Maybe for better signal quality. The transistor is no problem, it is a simple J109 Type (costs about 0.35 Euro/ct a piece), but with the capacitors I am realy unsure and do not know what type those were. I've seen that the two diodes D4 and D5 had been replaced additionally. Maybe you know what type of capacitor I can buy or give me some advice for replacement. Those are no elcos I suppose, more of a ceramic type but radial - well I don't really know. Only that they must be bipolar I think and have 1000pF. Do you have any idea? Best wishes

I've owned a few JX-8Ps, I've found that they both suffer from stuck keys from time to time. I'm not a huge fan of the keyboard action either, it's okay but not outstanding IMO. I don't think there is any unrepaired JX-8P that have fully working aftertouch!
I've had two JX-8P's, I had a pretty clean one I bought back in 2003, but it kinda sounded a bit cold, boring to me. I think I paid about $400 for it, and slightly more for the PG-800. I sold the JX for about $550 and the PG for I think $800 it so around 2005. But a year ago I found a totally mint one locally. One owner, classically trained pianist who hasn't used it for years. I took it out of the box, switched it on, everything worked! I used the iPG-800 app for a while to program it, but once I got used to editing on the machine, I found it almost as good. Funny thing, my old JX has the names of the patches on the keys (supposed to be older ones), whereas my new one doesn't (supposed to be newer) but mine was made in December '85, so go figure. This model also sounds much, much better to me, I didn't know if it's changed or if I've changed, but the new one sounds very warm and fat.
Hi! Your videos are awesome, thank you very much. I have already fixed my jp-8000's leaky C219 with the help of your teardown. I have a question. You mention in your video that replacing the encoder on this unit is easy. Unfortunately mine skips steps, I would love to replace it, but looking around online, I found that there are no replacement parts and of course the original is out of stock everywhere (syntaur too). I think it would make a really great video, if you showed how to replace or if not than repair (e.g. take apart and clean) the encoder. A lot of people have this synth and a lot of those synths have encoder issues, so the reach would be very wide. Once again, thanks for your informative videos. Cheers.

The S5000 and S6000 were EXTREMLEY expensive back in the day. We used to go to Sam Ash and just lust over them. I forget the actual prices. But I know in today's money, it would be the equivalent to about $10,000. They were machines producer's only bought with a purchase order from a record label. And the sounds were amazing. They used these machines strictly for storage and playback of drums because the Akai filters were so raw and it held alot of space for those days. It also was a very intimidating machine as well because of its size. You thought you were in a cockpit of a plane. It's amazing to see what recording studio's look like today. This guy once was bragging to me that he had a big studio and we were chopping it up talking. When I visited the place, he had just a laptop and a midi controller. LMAO - And basically that's all you need nowadays. I remember the days when you'd be in the studio in the summertime and the studio is burning up inside because of all the heat generated from all the hot tubes from pre amps etc. Now, it's just a midi controller and a laptop. Wow, the evolution of music technology.
90 percent of the time it's the power supply that goes.. the amp plate if any one wondering is called a bash amp you can still buy a new plate. from parts express 300w and 500w available it has the exact same boards the plate it self looks different because it's under the bash name. At one point every sub woofer manufacturer used this amp just look for the name bash on the plate. If there no bash label on the plate the company charge brand of amp plates like the newer 505 polks there not the same amp plate or boards . In my opinion the newer one are even worse with even more problems and more difficult to repair. 👍✌️💯
