I love mine too so “Henry” (I name everything I love lol) has a magnet on the right side of my sewing table leg. It’s right next to my hand as I reach down. And everyone sees him.
I have never seen this brand before. But it looks like a decent machine. Was it reasonably priced? Can it handle thicker fabrics like layers of denim or leather? It looks like it’s beginner friendly. I’m asking because I have a 13 year old niece who wants to learn to sew. I have been considering some Brother models but I haven’t settled on anything yet.
I would compare this machine to the ever-popular Singer Heavy Duty, made to handle all home-sewing projects. Definitely a good price and I've been using it more and more, even though I own other machines. 🤗
@SB747-YT sure - Use the eraser on the end of the pen to rub out the ink as if using a regular pencil eraser. The ink heats up to over 60°C and becomes invisible. You can also put the fabric in a tumble dryer on high heat.
My 48 year old Kenmore has those stitches. Those type of edging stitches were more common on most older sewing machines. The scallop stitch is my favorite.
@monicax7802 It's a 385. Bought it at Sears in August 1976 for my 20th BD. Came with a case. Sears had to give me a generic case, so they threw in the button hole attachment with all the plates. Score! Used it yesterday. Wouldn't trade it for a new machine. If I ever find one anywhere for sale, I'll buy it because they're work horses.
@Sew-Happy you never know. Janome is very well made. Loved your video. Haven't seen anyone do scalloped edges like you did since the 70s. Glad to see it making a comeback.
Beginner here! Thank you for this video. I saw that the pattern stated it needed 60" width fabric. Most fabric I saw online was less than that. Am I misunderstanding?
Thank you. Love the top. I'm curious, could you also attach the bottom ruffle part of the sleeve flat, and then sew the seams for both at the same time? Was that clear?
@@Sew-Happy Actually, what I meant was to just sew the top sleeve and bottom sleeve together before sewing the sleeve inner seams together. Then sew in the sleeve to the armhole. Do you know what I mean? That way when sewing the bottom sleeve to the top sleeve, it's in a straight line before making it a circle. Just a thought as to if there's a reason not to do that.
Am making this pattern now so this was helpful to watch. I would have liked to have seen the finished article either on you or on a dress dummy though - especially how it all works - front to on first and fastened at the back and back piece comes round and ties.
i love your tutorials. you have the best sew along in all youtube community. i hope you can have a sew along with the pattern vogue 1783 and simplicity 9949. i look forward to it. thank you.
As long as you take a little time you can use a pretty basic machine to do some really amazing things,so Yes you can do a scalloped edge with a basic machine, just practice 😊
This is such a cute top, love the fabric. Could you please do a tutorial on the Paloma slit neck blouse (free pattern) by Tiana's Closet. I love the way you explain each step.
Thanks for the suggestion! ❤️ I’ve been getting quite a few lately, so I have begun to take pattern requests from channel members. This way, I can select at least one per month to add to the channel. Jon the channel here: 🌟 ru-vid.com/show-UCt4sgLp_VnkIk_73AOQOIcgjoin
Love this top. One little hint, I usually do two lines of gathering which gives a more even gather, and then I stitch between the rows to attach the piece. Then I pull out the visible row of gathering. Doesn’t take a lot of time but always gives a nice result.
I'm just waiting for the day ladies discover the air compressor in the garage. Literally the most useful thing ever! It cleans, dries, gets into tiny crevices and doesn't damage anything if you learn how to use one! They're loud so it's best to get a looonngg hose and run the compressor elsewhere. Can even install permanent through-the-wall adapters/plugs. And there's many types of tips for them as well!
I finished the skirt and it is perfect. I put elastic on the waistband, was more practical for me.😊. I used the Tiana's closet pattern for the Noemi ruffle detail dress, but i just converted it to a skirt.( i like the dress, but if one day, and of course, if you like it and would like to share with us how to sew that dress i will be very happy to make the whole dress.😊). I know you are very busy creating stuff for us, that is why i didn't ask you before to add it to the list.
@MS-mr4li great to hear about the new skirt! 🙌 Thanks for the suggestion! ❤️ I’ve been getting quite a few lately, so I have begun to take pattern requests from channel members. Might be fun, but it's actually really bad for the mechanics of it. It has something to do with the cold and condensation and dew...or something like that. I swear I was listening when my mechanical engineer of a husband explained it!! Really, I did. Lol.
If you have a complex machine, are new to your machine, or dont do it super often so might have forgotten: always take pictures before, and during, removing any pieces 😁
