No he conocido nadie más con la sabiduría e inteligencia de este señor!!!!! Mucho de lo que se de los barcos y lo que he logrado en esta rama se lo agradezco a él !!!!! GRACIAS Alan Mabru !!!!!
its hard to see in the video but I'm actually at 4000RPM, getting 25-27kts WOT depending on conditions and 15-18knt cruise. Motors are Mercruiser 228 , with 17x16 3 blade props
Looks like you went out Hillsboro Inlet then cruised down to Port Everglades turned north to New River then west through downtown and went around to the Dania cutoff canal, is that a new shortcut?
Looks like a hull of a deal. 😅 Anything that works most likely needs replacing. The up side is you will know every nut, bolt, and wire connection. Something valuable you don't buy with a new boat. 😊
It was a project that I knew was going to be expensive and also went over the top as I use the vessel to demo new products. The confidence I have in taking this boat out, knowing how everything has been put together cannot be bought. There are still some details but the boat is a beast and I couldn't be happier
Hi, how did you "break in " the engines? where they on a pallet? I'm reading that to brake in an engines needs to run at about 2500rpm for a good 30 min...
I am no expert in engines and did not break in like that. I was always told to vary RPM when breaking in an engine and to avoid full throttle until 1st service at 50 hrs. I had the engines on customer made engine beds with castor wheel for easy transport and so far so good. I had understood that maintaining a constant RPM is not the way to properly break in and engine and RPM's should be varied. I certainly don't believe that the break in period would be 30 minutes though. On a car its usually the first 1000 miles.
My dad has a saying that everything is for sale except for wife and kids and wife is negotiable 😂 I don’t have plans to sell but as always, money talks
Love this series and what you’ve done with the 28. We had one growing up, would love to have one now and do all the same retrofitting you’re doing. Keep up the great work!
I would need to have a bit more information on this. Are you asking about a full rewire of the distribution panel and adding a dedicated house bank or only moving the existing batteries from the engine room to the cabin?
I can help with the components and installation guidance as I am the manufacturer of the AC unit and do quite a few of these installations. The 28 is a great boat and outboards are becoming more and more popular
I just posted a video of the AC that I installed on board. There are many ways of doing this that will depend on what your plans are. Do you plan on cooling just the cabin or the flybridge as well? Will you be installing a generator or running off of batteries? If batteries, what engines are you planning on putting in or currently have? I have a Mabru SC17V but would do a 7k or 12kBTU for the cabin only depending on vessel location. I wouldn't do a generator and have my unit running off of my lithium battery bank
@@mariowood-martinez2746 What is your battery setup? Did you add a dedicated house? What is the Ah capacity and chemistry of your banks? would you like to have a dedicated bank for just the AC or incorporate with an existing bank? the ideal unit for that boat is the SC12DC. On a single 250AH (4D size) you will get 5 hrs of runtime with engines off. Your engines have 80A alternators that on paper, should be able to easily cover the draw of the air conditioner running (44A max @12v)
@nicolasmabru so I have 2 8DA Batteries, one for each motor. I would like to set up an incorporate a dedicated house battery for sure! Would love that piece of mind knowing that I won't be drawing from my motor batteries.
Can you share the model Of AC you are using? Looking to do something similar in a 31. Sorry if I missed it somewhere. Love the videos by the way great job with the boat!
Robbie didn't seem to enjoy the ride. A few more times out and he'll be asking to take the wheel. Looks like she runs great. A/C is not something that I'd ever use, especially up on the flybridge.
Robbie loves the boat but gets scared at speed for now when it’s not flat out, he’ll get over it. The flybridge AC is not something that is needed but since I did an oversized air conditioner, I had plenty of capacity for additional vents and it keeps the wife happy. I can’t imagine going out here in South FL without AC in the cabin but understand that it is much more livable in different climates.
Thanks! I haven't had much time to focus much energy on her but am in the works of putting together a new inverter and monitoring system so that I will be able to view what is happening with the vessel remotely and I plan on doing a video on that aspect. Luckily my wife gets my humor and didn't get upset with me over that comment and am thrilled that she is willing to learn the ropes!
Dude’s got a $1,00000 in parts plus 1,00000 in labor what is he trying to prove or do just a old 28 Bertram most people will give you it for free, the 31 i can see him doing and still not putting all that crap into it just because you have the money and ability doesn’t make it worth it or right
First off, are you trying to say that I have 200k between parts and labor? If so I can promise you that I am not there. Second, I would love to find a decent 28 that someone would “give for free”. The 31 is a better investment due to the craze behind them but for my use, the 28 has a better layout and suits my needs better. A boat is NEVER logical or a sound investment. You will always spend more than it is worth if you are rebuilding it right and not just spot fixing the issues that a potential buyer will see. What is worth it or right is dependent on the person doing the build. For me, I use my boat as a demo to test new equipment before I start offering said equipment to potential customers. This will cause some equipment to be be installed that is maybe not “necessary” but the point here is not to prove anything, just showing the process of the build and to show that it can be done. It is certainly not for everyone as most people would not be able to handle something like this and would be better suited either buying a new boat or finding one that has already been refitted.
Pretty neat installation! looks very professional and most certainly a lot of quality gear on board. The 26 is supposed to be a simple boat. Did you need to install all the trappings? or are you just keeping yourself occupied? Still; a very rewarding endeavor...
The initial goal was a very simple 28 but as time went on, there were a lot of products that I wanted to experiment with as well which made the boat more complicated than originally intended. Needed or not will depend on each person and their needs but for me and my use, everything added was needed for the vessel to fit my needs.
@@nicolasmabru Definitely a labor of love. I'm afflicted as well I have two boat a bertram 26 which I entirely rebuild and a Pogo 36 which is also taking a lot of my time. Its about keeping busy and away from you know who!
One thing I carry is a hose mend kits. Some hoses get hard as rocks when they get old. Detroit has new brace kit for that block. We live in FL. Go north in the Summer. Sat out this year. Awesome vid. We went west last summer. Do love the magic carpet ride.
Nick. Good job. My 28 is being painted as we speak. One thing I did was to remove those external horns. I put a pair of standard auto horns under the cowling. It's a very clean look now. Dont know how many horns i've ruined over the years by squirting water in them.
Thanks Dwight! What color are you going with? Regarding the horns, i ended up going a different route and upgrading to air horns, I am hoping that the new ones will be more reliable but we will see
@@nicolasmabru Its really just the same color, just all consistent with Awlgrip. I will post something in January. I know it doesn't look too bad from afar. But all the wings, dings, spider cracks, and thin gel coat will be gone. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gt0jAwPCE_U.html
she has about 300k miles, I don't remember the exact mileage off hand but we spent a lot of time cleaning up all of the forgotten areas once we got her down here.
She’s coming along good! Im planning on dropping my 28 in at Cooleys ramp on Saturday for a quick float test after she’s been down for 8 months. Hope to see you on the water soon! Say hi if you see us at the sandbar
I'll keep an eye out, I've now moved the boat a bit more north to lighthouse point but I certainly imagine that our paths will eventually cross. You know how these boat projects go, there is just so much to do to make these boats right. What a joy to go out and use them after all of the work into em.
@@nicolasmabru 100%. I thought I’d be back on the water by the end of this week… until a screwdriver busted through the side of the exhaust elbow while working on something else 🤦♂️. One day!
@@BobHGarage The mixing elbow or one of the elbow that allow easier routing of the hose? I ended up eliminating the 45 degree elbows that were on the inboard side of each exhaust and making the bend with corrugated hose. if its the mixing elbow, great that you caught it before it became a bigger problem
@@nicolasmabru not sure if it’s the mixing ones. It’s the ones that drop down after the up elbow. I’d like to see what you’ve done if you were able to eliminate some of the cast iron stuff. I hate having it on the boat butbhavent found a more reasonable option yet
@@BobHGarage Take a look at this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gATxTlBe2X8.html from 9:43-9:50 showing the port engine. the part that the hoses are attached to is the mixing elbow. if this goes bad, you will be getting salt water in your cylinders
Notice how the old heads had to go in there and fix it because young people today especially the men are fucking worthless! I'm not saying the guy doing the video doesn't know shit I don't know him but I'm a instructor at a class A Trucking academy and the men that come through our doors are not the same man that came through our doors in the 80s I had to explain to one guy why you should put your hazards on when broke down! I'm not shitting you and another guy asked me if my truck is too tall to go under the bridge can someone just come out and raise the bridge for me to go under it?! He really asked that!
You're just demonstrating your white privilege by buying such an elitist bus! LOL just kidding that bus is the shiznit I'm an owner operator truck driver and I talked to a lot of Prevost owners over the C.B. and they have influenced me so much so that I went out and bought one! They have such excellent build quality this will be a good opportunity for me to brush up on some of your mechanical skills.
I saw the first line and rolled my eyes, thinking that you were "one of those". The Coach is on the back burner right now as we finish some other projects but I will have some updates soon.
Glad to hear, I need to post some updates soon and then planning a series of videos that will be more specific to different modifications that were made such as the AirCon and windlass
@@nicolasmabru That would help me a lot as I am not planning on a generator. Once I get to the electrical side would love to get your advice on setup. I love your idea of AC up in the flybridge first time I have seen that.
