I am giving people (urbanists, public transit users, micromobility users, cyclists, etc) the news and information they need to stay up to speed on micromobility and urban infrastructure in New York City and beyond.
Make the cars. Or invent technology that takes away the blind not cause congestion there needs to be a balanced society all this is doing is causing more traffic I’m not against bike lanes but it has to be done right
The trucks will still be able to go through fine. The street was overbuilt as 70+% of the time there is hardly anyone using it compared to how big it was built. Im in that area almost everyday.
The MTA need to stop attacking cars and pass on their fees on to their riders not cars. We already spend a lot maintaining our vehicles. The taxes in we pay from buying gas and purchasing vehicles provides money for maintaining road infrastructures. The MTA makes billions of dollars already through tolls throughout the city not only that but they also get public funding from taxes. I think it’s outrageous that they give huge salaries to these workers that aren’t very deserving in a crumbling infrastructure MTA workers should not be getting paid over 60k salaries but a lot of them abuse the clock and are even found sleeping on the job collecting money. Traffic wasn’t as bad before the designated bus lanes and bike lanes that barely get used which already reduces driving lanes by 40-50% throughout most of the city especially on big avenues. If anything the city has to get rid of 50% of TLC cars which makes up over 50% of the traffic in lower Manhattan. Or charge congestion pricing on only TLC cars.
They need to pass it on to cars because ultimately all that infrastructure has to be maintained. Subway riders are already paying for what they use. Drivers need to pay for what they use regardless of MTA issues. Subway riders are paying for what they use directly already. No drivers are paying to wearing down the infrastructure here in the CBD. They drive aggressively. They hound pedestrians living in the area like we are barely allowed any space on the street despite the fact there are more of us. Everyone thinks us pedestrians are supposed to finance everyone else's lifestyle in NJ and update. Wanna fix affordability? move here vote and fix it....but no... everyone else is just leeching off NYC from their suburb.
@@theurbanspokesman subway riders are not paying what they use millions of people hop the train everyday and the Mta loses on millions of dollars every day and now they are trying to make up for that discrepancy by trying to take it out on everyone else same thing with property taxes a lot of it is unpaid and it’s being passed down to us you are brainwashed if you think I need to fund a system I don’t need to use when I already have my own reliable and cheap transportation
Finally RU-vid is giving me an urbanism channel that is not run by a white man. Great videos, just got annoyed with the background music over your voice on this one, but other than that, keep it up, will love to see where this channel goes.
Good point. Yeah the bridges need maintenance and honestly they need to be expanded to add pedestrian, cyclist and better public transit access. Maintenance and capital improvements require additional money.
@@theurbanspokesman such lies. NYC used to have 30 mph speed limit. During diblasio mayor he lowered it to 25 mph claiming the same argument. Look it up
@@theurbanspokesman Speed limits doesn't mean that much. In my neighborhood chinatown LES, the main street allen street (1st avenue). I believe they have changed the light sequences so you can't go past 3 blocks at a time. That is if you're at a red light and it turns green you can only drive about 3 blocks and then its red light. That slow down of traffic is what will prevent deadly accidents. But people simply have to pay attention to walking accross the street, and I'm talking about adults. I grew up here in NYC in the 80s and 90s where there were no rules and I was safe enough no car ran me over. Yes i hanged out when i was a kid while my parents were at work
@@xcen1 I did look it up. Here is data backing up my claim and a real implementation just outside of NYC backing up my claim. www.businessinsider.com/hoboken-nj-eliminated-traffic-deaths-bikes-road-paint-speed-limit-2023-11
I am SOOOO tired of the "think about the children" nonsense. Kids should walk on the sidewalks and cross at the green. If a kid can't follow these instructions, well, there is natural selection at work for the good of society.
crazy I drive and never hit a pedestrian. The guy was illegally speeding anyway. this doesn't stop illegal speeders. It just means more camera tickets. More money for the city, just like congestion pricing.
I saw the thing on it, its not all 20 mph, streets with 3 lanes or more will still be 25 mph. So stupid kids want to walk onto a dangerous street then we'll shut everything down for them?
This is dumbest 💩 ever. Just more ways for NYC to make money with all their speed traps pretending it is for safety. What needs to happen to hold pedestrians accountable for running out in front of cars. Parents should teach their kids how to cross the street properly. NYers are so dumb. They take is someone speeds let's make everyone go slower. Ridiculous
@@georgejesson1944 that's more pollution, bikers run all red lights , meanwhile cars are idling ... that's worse for the city. Nowadays you have more ADD / disabled kids walking around. Kids walk around like there are no cars. some might be deaf. there's always going to be accidents.
This is BS, the speed limit was already reduced from 30 to 25. This is a joke, it is designed to increase traffic congestion in order to discourage people from owning cars.
Imagine having an organization that mismanages 19 billion dollars a year. Now let’s imagine giving them an additional 3 billion a year and thinking it will make a difference. Ok
I agree with your sentiment. I think the amount of red tape involed in doing literally anything is costing us. Do you know of instances where the money is mismanaged by the MTA?
lol I like Whoopie sometimes but on this I just think she is wrong. I think because she hasn't lived in NYC for a number of years now she's forgotten what it's actually like to be run down in the crosswalk.
Hi Chris, Glad you're pointing this out. As a Bronxite who frequently uses my ebike, this is problem very unique to our borough. Places like Mosholu Parkway, Bruckner Boulevard and the Southern Boulevard stretch between Fordham University and NY Botanical Garden don't have this problem but it is present everywhere else. There are two solutions to this problem: 1: Enforcement(Police officers giving out tickets or summons). 2: Highly defensive infrastructure(bollards, barriers etc...) that makes it impossible for cars to utilize. I opt for the later as it the former would be politically very unpopular and the later actually stops the bad behavior in the first place.
Legalize vandalism up to broken windows or popped tires of vehicles in the bike lane if it's recorded and a note is recorded for the reasoning it happened (because the car was in the bike lane). Then people will think twice.
Part of the issue in New York people just don't care for anything or anyone around them, they do what is the best for them in that moment, including anything free and unpunished.
Both those places have bike/car roadways as well as bike only roadways. They also have cultures that are inherently respectful of other people, unlike the USA where many people interpret 'freedom' as 'freedom to be an asdhole'.
To be fair Florida had the opportunity to have a true electric ⚡️ high speed rail (with speeds up to 186 miles per hour) with the help of Federal funding but it got shot down by high political Floridian figures (who have ties to the auto and oil industry)! The original route was Tampa to Orlando and then possibly eventually down to Miami. High speed rail was voted for by the Floridian public but got repealed unfortunately.
@@theurbanspokesman It didn’t get repealed by the public it was the Politicians that did it. Alan Fisher did a whole video about this topic he goes more in-depth and explains it better than me! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lY6tufFWSaA.htmlsi=vJu_tlhh-Guj08KR
That's awesome, I'm glad the plan was finally approved, even if with minor modifications! Do you happen to know what does the timeline to full implementation looks like?
