This piece on old period correct instruments!? ....nice idea , why not. But a musician with sparkle n energy can play this on a fender rhodes electric piano keyboard.... and still it d be beautiful and inspiring.
The 4 London Trios were written for 2 flutes and cello. No violin. The violin disappears next to the flute. Isaac Stern shouldn't be there. These guys played way to fast. For commercial reason, I guess.
Was going to play this with two of my friends (violin and cello) last year for a winter chamber group, but sadly it was right before lockdown and we had only just started playing. :(
A beautiful performance! Most pianists rush through these excellent pieces in 13 - 15 minutes. I like the slower, more impressionistic approach. And as someone who has played them, this opus is harder than it sounds because of the polyphonic texture, which is very different from the homophonic texture of the Fantasia Baetica.
Wonderful contrasting Oistrakh & Zehetmair performances. Zehetmair more breathtakingly brilliant: Oistrakh more intense and thought-provoking. I could not do without either!
