A funny and exciting vlog style look into my version of gardening. I am currently growing over 50 fruit and citrus trees and currently in the process of grafting and rooting cuttings from my trees. I go live usually on Sundays to chat about gardening and other topics. My garden goal is to grow enough food to offer my family healthy fruit and vegetable options. Can not wait to see you there. Old enough to know I might break more than my ankle wearing slides in my FL garden. But also think you broke some kinda social media fashion rules with those socks.😂
What black cow went up in your area that's cray, it should be still $4-5 a bag. This inflation is crazy. I need to help one of citrus pots with yellow leaves because I went out of town and it suffered. We got the same cart and that thing have went up like crazy in price from when I bought it a few years ago. It's funny that you put biochar in yours, because I just added some to mine yesterday. We got a nice down pour of rain last night in GA.
Well well well... stirring the pot ain't you? I wish I had been here for this live. According to indoor gardening everything can be propagated without pollinators. And while there is obvious truth to that, the question is, should we even want such crops? Do you have a refractometer? (I will be ordering one.) Do you know about the Brix levels? Nerd out on that...I still need to... As you know, many fruit trees and bushes are either self-pollinating or require a pollinator. However, even those that are self-pollinating are said to produce better with a second plant. That requires a pollinator, for the best production. How likely is it that a human being will pollinate every flower out there? If it's wind pollinated, what if you have barely a wind? Should every person go pollinate every little baby flower out there? Would that...normalize gardening, or run people away? I recall you saying that we should normalize gardening. But how can we normalize gardening if we give people more tasks in order to make it effective? You and I both know that the average person - especially the new gardener - is not going to go out there and pollinate their own plant. My mom still can't get over that she has to find the peas or beans instead of them just sitting on top. But let me tell you , this woman keeps a lovely yard. You telling people that they can do the work of pollinators might be true, but how practical is it? Not to mention, a female has to be pollinated in order to give birth. More often than not, a flower has to be pollinated in order to produce a viable seed. So if we follow the thinking that pollinators aren't necessary than we will not only reduce the diversity of our produce, we will also reduce our ability to save seeds from our own plants. That said, you raise an excellent point that it's not just about the bees. Wasps and hornets are pollinators as well. In fact, I learned that they enjoy pollen because it is a source of protein. So you will find such stinging creatures visiting your plants to get their daily dose of protein, and in the process they pollinate our plants. We should encourage the presence of pollinators because they increase plant diversity, seed viability, and environmental diversity. Versus telling people that they don't need to worry about pollinators which means it's okay to leave it up to a minimum of processes - which included humans - instead of as many processes as possible. Wind pollinates a lot of things, but what if the wind isn't blowing much when your plant flowers? And the Good Lord knows leaving things up to humans to do anything alone is a very, very bad idea. So Broke, grow them flowers in the form of herbs and things you can harvest and use to your benefit. Nothing wrong there. Nobody said you have to grow flowers that aren't edible. Herbs flower. Pretty sure just about everything flowers. Broke, just by being a gardener you tend to your pollinators. IN FACT, as a fruit tree farmer, you are probably one of the most pollinator loving MFers out there. Hey Broke, how's about we say LET SH** FLOWER.😉😂🤔🙋♀️ Props Friend.
100% ! Excellent topic to get people using our minds and wanting to discover the answers. I've just been wanting to reply for a minute. 😆😆🙋♀️ But I'm grateful you got us all talking about it. 👏👏👏
