Another good argument is that you can´t control what other people do in traffic. There are plenty of motorists who aren´t as reactive as they think they are, or who doesn´t know traffic laws. I´ve been hit by cars a couple of times, becase they did not know common traffic laws here in Sweden. I also had a car door flung open a few feet in front of me. No time to brake, I just crashed right into it fast enough for the hinges on that door to bend backwards. Don´t rely on luck to protect your juicy brain
Meh, I suspect the shorter lengths are being added to generate additional sales. I can't imagine a whole 3/4 of an inch making that much of a difference one way or the other. Much like the transition from 26" wheels to 29", and then to 27.5". I'm sure there are some use cases where there might be some very small advantage, but mostly just another toy to add to the bike.
Hello, I have a question to ask you, I'm 14 and I am just starting to get into mountain biking, my dad told me he bought a 2014 specialized demo 8 carbon fiber mountain bike and never used it, he gave it to me, is it a good downhill mountain bike?
I appreciate the sentiment, but i wish people would stop pushing this helmet narrative onto everyone. You don't need one for commuting. What you need to be safe is learn awareness, know how to fall, and a good pair of gloves. Millions commute safely everyday without a helmet, both children and adults. ps: I've been run into by cars 2 times and once by a bus. Not once my head was injured or in danger.
I think all balance bike should have the option to install brakes later on. My son got faster and faster as he got confident in the balance bike, that using a foot brake is no longer enough. I bought him the btwin runride 100 which was splendid when he started but 3 months later going down slopes on and off-road, I thought to install brakes but realised that it doesn’t have brake mount like the runride 500 and 900.
Hoping you or a viewer can help me... I'm rebuilding a 2000 GT Timberline FS. Having one major issue, the front derailleur/shifter. It's the original Shimano Alivio drive train, 3x7. I've gone through 3 shifters for front derailleur. It'll work fine for a few km, then (always) going from 2nd to 3rd the shifter "pops" and something fails inside its mechanism. I've tried stripping shifter apart, and can't find the failure point, or the cause. The cable hasn't been over tightened, I deliberately keep it a wee bit loose and use barrel screws to adjust/do final tightening. A) I'm out of 3x gear shifter/brake lever handles, and B) still don't know cause of failure. Maybe cable routed wrong but it looks all wrong going around pinch point other way
Ebikes are for people who don't/cant bike. If youre already competent on a bike then they'll probably just make you wish you were on a lighter more maneuverable bike
One way around this is is to sell “bicycle parts” meaning a complete bicycle missing its back wheel and some totally unrelated yet tools-free compatible rear wheels alongside those bikes.
I don't like Ebikes at all, if I had a sucessful RU-vid channel about mountain bikes and didn't want to offend ebike people, these are all the reasons I would give, without flat out saying, I don't like them, I won't buy one, but please watch my content!
I live 5 minutes away from Tech and they are at the leading front of many various research sectors. GM and Volvo both work with their autonomous driving department and NASA has a contract with the jet propulsion lab. That's not even the tip of the iceberg.
Im a mountain biker and downhiller for 15 years and i was starting to get bored and E-Bike just made me come harder on the game.. I changed to Enduro motorbike because i like speed and now you can have the lightweight and the maneuverability of a bike but with increased speed.. I Ofcourse tuned it up to go 35kmh and i couldnt be happier. Now there is more people to go drive with even if isnt at pro level because those people who not into fitness or not in good shape can come along.. For those who think you cant do sport on an Ebike is completely wrong.. You can set it to lowest or like in my bike you can customize between Assitance and acceleration from 1 to 5 and have 4 different modes .. You will sweat and get tired .. Now guess you can skip most of the annoying long straight streets or uphills and jump to the fun part by having it on Full assistance and get to go 2 or 3x times more far which atleast to me makes me happier and more motivated rather than always the same course ive been doing for 10 years.
E-bikes make no absolutely no sense for a young able bodied person. Just pedal on your own power and get fitter and fitter by doing your cycling hobby regularly. Don't be a lazy ass and use electric power just so its easier to pedal. For older people sure e-bikes are amazing so they can still enjoy cycling without stressing their bodies too much. And that's what e-bikes should be for. For older generation or for people with injuries that cannot ride a regular bike due to it being too stressful for their bodies
I have asthma and while I still know I definitely CAN get into a good enough shape to climb with a normal bike, starting out with a normal bike would almost certainly just be too much. I think e-bike would make it much easier for me to get going and even eventually be able to climb without electric assist. Now only if I had the money to get an e-bike... Having adhd doesn't help eather. Sure I could start building up my strength just riding on the streers but it's too boring to me and I just give uo after a while. Mountain biking is infinitely more fun to me, if it wasn't for my lungs killing me on the way up 😅. Exercise being boring is determental if you have adhd, getting in better shape just isn't enough to motivate us to suffer though it.
I got hit by a car the other day near where I live. didn't get a huge bump on my head, but would've been worse without a helmet! Today I saw someone riding along that same stretch without a helmet. Made me cringe pretty hard.
This is not true, 1st gen mountain bikes DID have coaster brakes, my mountain bike had it, the ban on coaster brakes was instilled as a law when any bike had more than one gear.
id be dead if it wasn't for helmets. I went over the handlebars on a jump at a dh track and smacked my head on a rock garden. I walked away luckily with just a broken wrist and concussion. I honestly dont think i would be writing this comment if i didnt have one on. I see unexperienced kids all the time hitting the local jumps, which is very risky. I tell them why i wear a helmet and ill see them a week later still with no helmet. It makes me genuinely worried as they dont understand the risk and they refuse to listen even when i wasnt condescending at all. if they went home and asked their parents for a helmet and they said no they are horrible parents. I dont care how little money you have, you can afford 30 dollars to protect your children from serious head trauma or death.
