Hi everyone! My name is Seung, and I love snowboarding, carving, and teaching! I’ve learned a lot riding at Big Snow American Dream, America’s first indoor snow resort, and want to spread the knowledge on various aspects of boarding and carving in a clear, easily followable format - videos! Here in the UK we have the Chill Fatore in Manchester. I'm lucky as I live only a 30/40 min car ride away so I can get there a couple of times a week throughout summer. I dont go over the winter months as the place is just way to busy. It looks very similar to Big Snow in size and layout. Also just finished watching your extremely comprehensive guide to carving. Without question for me personally its hands down the best tutorial on how to carve on RU-vid. And it's absolutely improved my riding. So thank you Shm for the tutorial and the tour around Big Snow. You never know, maybe one day I'll visit Big Snow and maybe one day you'll visit the Chill Factore. Keep up the stellar work Sir and take care.

The best video i ve seen about Craving. I watched many times of your first series videos but I couldn't pick it up last winter. I tried more than 10 times but I can left pencil line at the end of every time. Do you think the slope and the sleep are very related?

I'm confused.. Open body Heel side makes sense (like door opening movement) but Open body with Toeside isn't a little bit controversial? it's almost like doing a counter rotation to make a carve.. wouldn't be closed shoulders ?
@shmsnow
@shmsnow 26 дней назад
No. Check out any skilled carver, stance regardless, each of their toesides their upper body is perpendicular to their board. It's more of a balance issue than a counter rotation momentum issue.

You technically can but carving down hill with sharp turns you'd want to be facing forward.

You say open body but then show lots and lots of heelside turns that look closed.
@shmsnow
@shmsnow 27 дней назад
As open as most can get on duckstance.
@Gorbothy
@Gorbothy 21 день назад
@@shmsnow strong disagree on that one. There's plenty of duck stance carvers who maintain proper open stance on heelside, most of the ones I know have a background in Alpine snowboarding, the way edge pressure is applied throughout the turn looks noticeably different for how you are demonstrating it. Honestly it just looks like you're trying to teach something you don't fully understand.

@@Gorbothy This is a video for beginners looking to get into carving. Not everyone has had the blessing of starting on a forward stance. MOST people don't.

@Gorbothy 20 дней назад
@@shmsnow I made this point because this video is for beginners. You've packed a lot of good information in a very well put together video that I'm sure took a huge amount of effort but it's borderline misinformation and confusing to beginners to be talking about an open body heelside carve when the riding demonstrated is 99% closed. this would've been much better if you packaged it as a general heelside carve tips / advice video.
@juliantrue838

@@shmsnow What you might want to consider is breaking the various techniques down into maybe 20 minute videos..part 1..part 2..etc. Unfortunately as a university lecturer I see most people don’t have the perseverance or ability to focus on a subject much longer than 20-30 minutes. A split will be more digestible to 99% of viewers and allow them to work on one at a time before moving on to the next.

Thank you so much for this video with so much information. I saw your video after I bought the outdoor master snowboard edge tuning and hot waxing kit. They provide a file with angles(90,89,88,87) to tune the edge. But in your video you said never use a file to tune edge. I'm a little confused.

Yes, filing is the extremely aggressive option. You want to use diamond stones for polishing the edge, not the file.

It does remove the new wax, which is what is desired. Less extra wax on the base of the board, the faster you go.

It states that there is "..Freestyle Edge Bevel - From detuning the tip and tail to a 2-degree edge holding tune throughout the key parts of the sidecut, back to a 3-degree bevel between the feet...".
