Welcome to Great Day For A Hike! This channel is all about helping you build your videography and photography skills. Testing new gear, creating how-to tutorials, and sharing practical advice are my focus items here.
Why buy 5? Surely three is enough if they charge that fast in the dual charger. Charge all three before you go out, use one, put that one on charge and use one of the two charged ones and keep going. I’m sure you have a Power Bank. And if not, one would be cheaper that the cost of two batteries.
Back when I filmed this I had yet to find a great power bank for GoPros. Since then, many great options have been created. I agree that having three with your suggested use case is good.
You could do that as well. I find that effect to be great in footage that is overly sharp but sometimes the motion blur doesn’t feel as natural when applying that effect depending upon what is happening in the scene. So it’s certainly useful for boosting the motion blur.
This is the James River Foot Bridge. This is where the Appalachian Trail crosses the James River in Virginia. I believe this is located in Glasgow, VA or near it.
The gimbal has a load limit of 150 grams so you would need to add any accessory weight to the weight of the cam. You would also have to make sure any addon does not foul the frame of the gimbal during it's 3 axis movement.
Yes, you can do a time lapse for 8 hours. You’ll need an external power bank as the GoPro battery won’t last that long. I’ve never had the GoPro overheat during a time lapse. Time lapse is one frame every few seconds. This doesn’t generate the heat that 24, 30, 60, or 120 frames per second would generate while capturing.
very nice explain and tip!the settings -2 sharpness and -1 noise reduction you use it at the day and the night or only the day?also if i have 50fps and 100 shutter and move very slowly(step by step) i will have the ghosting or jittering effect?also why you use shutter 240?i have seen that the action 4 must be at least 200...(40 more frames i think make the difference to have the blur from 180 rule😀)thanks!
Yes I use those sharpness and noise reduction settings during the day and in low light. With 50fps and 1/100 shutter if you move slowly and “glide” with your movement you might be okay without much jitter or ghosting. At least 1/200 is important for the shutter, but I like 1/240 because it is exactly four times 60 and equals a 90-degree shutter angle.
@@GreatDayForAHike HI, it is only fit one side of my Acepro there are spaces between the camera lens and the ND filter. I don't know how it fit like it does in yours video. Thank you
Another great content! I’ve been using a gimbal on my Ace Pro and it sucks lugging it around. Now I don’t have to deal with that. I did notice though that the clarity zoom feature of the Ace Pro was disabled with these settings.
tried to record an event in a church a couple of weeks ago, room temp was around 20°c in early mai and the gopro 11 and 12 were overheating after around 25minutes, so basically i couldn't even record the beginning because i started recording a couple minutes after setting up the cameras(30minutes before the begining) also used the media mod on both. Thanks to my dji pocket 2 and 3 i also setup in the back, at least i had some footage(which were able to record the full 120minutes without issues).
An alternate title for this video: How to Get as Much Motion Blur as Possible in Your Videos Using ND Filters While Avoiding Ghosting and Jitter, Keeping Stabilization On, and not Needing a Gimbal. That title is way too long but sharing it for additional clarity of the aim of this video 😃
love this your guides for the action camera. I’m a beginner interesting for my vacation camera. Since beginning i like action 4. Mostly i will use this as is meaning just choose from the menu and i will use the video as is but if i have time to update i will. So do you think my choice is good enough for that?
Yes, the Action 4 is a solid vlogging camera. Check out this video here for more specific vlogging settings I recommend for this camera: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TgI5ihg9jRI.htmlsi=EX2cBR0bbV7s7nss
Wow! just yesterday I stumbled across your channel cuz I bought Freewell Bright Day 4 Pack for GoPro 12 and their QR-linked video was overly simplistic, not to say lazy ("line up these two white marks and you're good"). And here we have such a great content! (at such a perfect time) Thank you so much!
Also, your video on night lapses inspired me to try my own and the very first attempt looks not ugly =) Just letting you know, that your work are much appreciated and gives others lots of knowledge and inspiration! Many thanks!
And how does the stabilization behave with the shutter speed at 1/50 or 1/60 when post-processing in Gyroflow if you record the video without internal stabilization? Thank you very much for the informative video!
Great question! I have found this to be hit or miss with Gyroflow stabilizing later on with a shutter speed at 1/50 or 1/60 and stabilization off. If in good lighting during the day, Gyroflow will often work okay. If the footage was filmed in lower light, the results are not always so good. In addition, if the camera was mounted on something like a drone where it’s somewhat smoother than handheld, the results are usually better in Gyroflow vs handheld footage. So the results aren’t consistent under this scenario but it is possible to get good results.
Thanks! For larger capacity I own a few of these from Anker and each will last a few days if creating a time lapse: amzn.to/4bIIn0j If recording videos for much of the day, then several of these may be needed or a much larger one like this one: amzn.to/3wJM7j6
After watching a lot of videos, yours also, bought DJI Osmo Action 4 Adventure Pack for around 400 euros, hard to beat package at this moment. Super satisfied with picture quality, ease of use, battery life and how fast it charges. Before I started searching, I only knew about GP, but after reading so many negative experiences went for another company. Watching videos, really liked GP color science, so would like to try their camera one day too.
The Action 4 is a great camera. Yes, I really like the GP color science, especially with the new LOG mode on the Hero 12 and the color grading flexibility this allows for.
This is because electronic image stabilization needs a fast enough shutter speed in order to function properly. A shutter speed of 1/200 or faster allows EIS to reliably function properly. Ghosting and jitter are when EIS is on and the shutter speed is too slow. The frames and the motion in the video will not line up and it will look really bad.
I did the samething with my gopro i use powerbank and it wont overheat compare with battery, i bought a com0act powerbank snd able to record hrs. I bought a holder and convert to my delfie stick.
Great Video! Can you answer me this please. I am looking to do timelapses in my vehicle, around 2 - 4 hour journeys, on the way back it will be night. What settings do you suggest for this, as i wont be able to safely change ND filters, is there an auto setting you would suggest? Thanks.
I would like to see GoPro try again with drones but this time with its own dedicated camera. With all the talks about banning Chinese drones, this would be a great time for them to reenter that market.
EXCELLENT VIDEO. This is really the only video needed to use the DJI OP3. Thank you. I learned a lot. You are very knowledgeable and an excellent communicator. God bless!
I really appreciate your step by step how to for this camera. I am an old fart and it nice to have someone walk me through the Insta360 ×4. I will watch this and practice so I can capture some great vids on this wonderful device. Thank you.
Yes, there are sample clips throughout this video and if you’d like to see more footage filmed with this camera, these settings, and this mount I have provided the full, unedited footage here from this bike ride: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_1u2zOYxxwo.htmlsi=ep0ynToOAqqoWhec
Yes leave RockSteady on and then adjust your shutter speed range to the setting of 1/200 - 1/8000. This will ensure you don’t have jitter and ghosting in your footage.
Very thorough! I have 3 of the 4 cameras (No Action 4), and agree with your findings. GoPro best in good light, Ace Pro best in low light and Osmo best for cinematic (travel, vlog, low light) but, as you said, limited for "action." Having these three in my quiver allows me to make the best of any scenario.
This is an awesome video for a GoPro beginner like myself! There is plenty of useful information here that I have to bookmark and review multiple times to understand completely. Thank you!
