i took acid by mistake once, phoned a friend with the emergency that i couldn't work the hifi. he turned up, put this song on and i just lay on the floor as a host of angels appeared. what a fucking trip... what a beautiful song.
RIP Mark Lanegan - thank you for this brilliant tune, as well as your other great work... I saw he had passed, I immediately had to come see this video....
why am I so blind with my eyes wide open? simple, yet so beautiful. pretty secular message, at least for those who've experienced loss/sadness/betrayl. love it!
God I love this song! I wish Mark Had made it! His voice and depth were one of a kind- seriously, one of a kind. So many artist just scribble lyrics to just get it done. Mark -lived- his songs, what he sings about are about his life and experience’s, the “ top 40” today are mindless, soulless and meaningless garbage! Music is something that “ can” save lives, inspire beautiful acts, even terrible ones too! What we have today, I don’t know, is it music? Where is the -meaning- in modern, auto tune drenched commercial schlock ? I’m always open and try not to never turn down a turn on, but damn… some of todays “ music” really sucks ass!
Question... The song at the end of "The Giving Tree" episode on 'Friday Night Lights' wasn't this one, and everywhere I look on the internet it says its this one. Can someone explain?
Shit... RIP Mark Said gonna be a revival tonight ooh I wanna see a revival yeah Gonna be a revival tonight Lord, let there be a revival yeah Forgive what I have done It means my soul's survival, oohh I need you so,it's sin Put an end to my suffering oh
Tarnished, reeking of cigarette smoke, whiskey stained, 24 karat gold that will inevitably be pawned to pay for whatever your drug of choice is. But nevertheless, gold. (And yeah I know gold Doesnt technically tarnish. Dont be pedantic.
I can't believe I came across this great tune I never heard before. It heals my broken soul like no song did before. Thank you Mark for this masterpiece I can't believe I could have seen you live in my city, but I was lazy to go; and then you died. pfff
I'm glad at least one person in the comments connected the dots. Carnivale was the direct inspiration for the video (not the lyrics). This came out a few years after the show was cancelled and the band was insanely devoted to the show. Good eye.
One of the most underrated videos/songs of all time. It's a video that changes with every viewing. Just like a 'reading'...and the fact it's set to Lanegan's haunting vocals, makes it a masterpiece.
I love this song... Im going to play it at my fathers funeral on Friday. I love you Dad, I know your in heaven. Clear the path for your son, I will be along soon enough when my work here is done.
"Trying to get my hands clean in dirty water." I feel the same way Mr. Lanegan. Thank you for all the beautiful and inspirational music over the years.
This is what it feels like to come to face the parts of your life that seem utterly broken. The feeling of not being able to fix it on your own strength, and the only thing that can redeem it is a miracle, something truly supernatural.
Mark Lanegan is one of the most under appreciated people out there. Saw him in concert with Queens of the Stone Age, and the Gutter Twins... His work is brilliant..
Amazing video, but more importantly a soul touching song. I can't get over how anything Mark Lanegan touches turns to gold (in the sense of deep, meaningful music). I want him to crank out more albums over the next few years, hell I'd even listen to him sing the phone book; his voice alone would put meaning into the myriad names. His voice has the ability to GIVE meaning to the words his mouth frames.
The video mirrors the song exactly. A picture is worth a thousand words. The video has put into a masterpiece of music. The music, the video, the acting,.... everything about the video is superb.
I´ll see them in cologne in 8 days.. so looking forward !! mark lanegan is one of the best vocalists I´ve ever heard and to hear him live will leave me breathless I guess..
What a tune. Once again Mark Lanegan with his whiskey and cigarrete filled vocals makes this tune extra special. He is one of the greatest singers of all time and does not get the credit he should.
i hate comments like:"thumbs up when "bla bla bla" brought you here" i hate comments like:"thumbs up when *songtext* brought you here" no social media, no video game, no fucking opera or something brought me here!!! only soulsavers (= good music) should bring you here, (There are times, when those eyes inside your brain stare back at you)
All over the internet it says this song was at the end of 'The Giving Tree' episode of Friday Night Lights. But there's no way.... the two songs sound very different, and there are no lyrics..
