Hello and welcome to my channel! I am a mother to two rambunctious little toddlers (don't even ask how I get stuff done LOL), and my dream is to become a stay at home mom with my own small business here on RU-vid and Etsy. I have tried over 50 forms of art throughout my life and the fiber arts have seemed to stick with me! There are just endless possibilities and I am so excited to share my knowledge, and my journey with you! I hope you Subscribe and join me on this amazing path! I will link my Etsy Shop here if it is up yet, if not it will be very soon! Thank you so much for taking the time to read all this, if you did you are the reason I continue to push to achieve my dream! So THANK YOU AGAIN!
Did you say, "flicking the tips"…? What does that mean, please. What's the next step after washing, drying? Like, how did you get from washed, dry wool to the beautiful ball at the end?
I just got a free spindle from the lady at the state fair. 😭😭😭 she even taught me the crash course and free wool to practice with. This video is exactly what I was looking for!! Thank you !🙏
I use a mop bucket to squeeze water out. Got a mesh recliner lounger yrs ago from Habitat which with fitted twin sheet over the fleece sits on covered porch on windy day . Like multi purpose here
I think i should rephrase my question from old comment I made..Am still curious almost a yr.later & trying to figure out if it's possible 2 use this concept on 2 skeins of store bought #4 worsted weight 100% cotton yarn. Idk if the strands of yarn from ea.skein are already plied by machine when the yarn was made,or if that makes a difference or not(Id be changing a couple of things 2 better fit the situation tho,obviously..Like I'd put ea.ball/skein where it's easy 2 unwind & in their own seperate bowls beside me on the floor or up higher on a table. Also, would try to do the spinning after I invisble or Russian joiin the 2 ends 2gether & then see if I can make a slip knot or find a way to secure them on2 my spinner hook. Also after all that, I'd then try to start the twist by hand like u showed & attempt 2 keep the v shape & tension best I can while pulling up & using the slack of the continuous feed from skeins/bowls)...If it is possible 2 do w/the cotton yarn,,then what do u think about if I tried this w/acrylic yarn w.w.#4 (that I can def.say already looks plied) as well?? Hope this isnt too much of a bother & that I will hear some kind of feedback. Thanks so much 4 ur time & the great video..
I think it is possible. It would take a long time to untwist the already plied yarn, but if you have the time I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. I have seen others have to have too much or too little twist in their handspun skeins and have to re ply it. So I would think it would work the same way. I haven't really worked with cotton that much so I am unsure of it's properties on setting the twist. But if it has alot of "memory" to the yarn after it is un-plyed then you could try giving it a soak and then dry with a light weight to straighten it out some and then try plying it. I hope these tips help. Sorry if I don't reply or it takes a long time. Cheers
I would really like to understand why you are doing that trick with your right hand -the untwist motion. It seems unnecessary. You let the twist into your fiber source. So if you’re untwisting, are you pulling less or more fibers from the v source???😮
Thank you. I took a class as had no luck prior. I was trying to do the slight untwist and the instructo almost stopped me til i just did this. "Oh, ive no seen that before!" Gotta love it; i had a technique.
I just shared this with my mom. She has some dirty fleeces. I also helped her wash some fleeces similar to these last year. It’s crazy how dirty that water was, and how gorgeous the wool turned out afterward.
I originally started spinning after buying alpacas. Other than a little bit of practice wool, I have only ever spun 100% alpaca. I have so much and don't know what to blend it with/ don't want to ruin it by blending/don't know where to source blending fiber from that I don't ever blend my alpaca fiber with anything. I am increasing my fiber processing equipment and just bought some Valkyrie fine combs. Thank you for making this video so I can see how the finicky alpaca fiber works on combs.😂
I can’t get any uptake, I’ve taken a break from spinning but I decided to get my nano out and forget everything, so I watched your video which is very helpful but I’ve tightened the tension a lot and still nothing😢
