I played a lot of the N64 version of THPS but also had the PS1 versions of 1 and 2. I started on PS1 and then tried it out on other consoles. I did miss the FMVs. Beating the campaign with each skater and being treated to the short video felt like a real accomplishment. I did miss that in the N64 version.
Sega Dreamcast version for me, vmu messages for landing combos or bails were the best! Besides PS1 best skating game was Thrasher presents Skate or Die.. until THPS2 haha
if the argument of turning down the ingame music and just playing the songs on RU-vid were to be acceptable then the N64 version's soundtrack shortcomings wouldn't be an issue even when it came out because you could just put whatever you want on with a CD player (or even a tape deck if you still didn't have one by then, which is unlikely)
I’m confused about why you would assume someone is emulating this game It’s like a $5 game and a Nintendo 64 costs like $50 I feel like it’s pretty easily accessible without emulating?
I played the N64 version recently for the first time (on an actual N64, not emulation) having played the PS1 and DC versions back in the day. I could not believe how the music is basically cut down to 10 second loops from each song 🤣
Dreamcast is INSANELY easy to run. You dont need a mid range GPU to make it run. Actually N64 is actually much more cpu and gpu dependant than the dreamcast.
Ok so I've played this game with an actual N64 controller and it sucks for this game compared to PS1. Also the cut up songs is a bit of a deal breaker for me.
Nah, the game is better on Dreamcast FlyCast isn't all that demanding, and also you shouldn't be using *emulation* as a metric of a games quality, lmao wtf is this video????
Exact thoughts, emulation is so variable, it's stupid to use in comparisons. Should only be comparing the original games on original hardware. Also, he's wrong anyways, Dreamcast is the best, and maybe if you consider Tony Hawk 2x on Xbox with its Tony Hawk 1 levels in the mix.
I've recently discovered old Pop cap games (other than Pvz) like Bejewed ,Peggle ,Etc. .It's interesting and kinda refreshing to see these very remixed and copied concepts in their original form ,also these games each have a distinct atmosphere for some very casual and light games.
Thanks for speaking about the UI and menus. I don't think we would see such stylish menus again until Persona 5. I really like that you mentioned how this game took a few steps back, because that is why I loved it. RR type 4 was such an odd departure from the series in its look, feel, and music. The game never felt right to me, and despite its popularity it didn't feel like Ridge Racer at all. Coming from Rage Racer to type 4 was like meeting an old friend that has completely changed... When I finally got RRV about a year after launch (along with GT3) I was blown away by how it felt like Ridge Racer again. It is a game I still play a few times a year, and I am so glad it exists as a return to Ridge Racer and a nice upgrade at home when compared with the sit down arcade version, Ridge Racer V Arcade Battle!
Wait, you mean this might be better than The Fast and the Furious: ファスト・アンド・フュリアス for the PS2 and PSP, also by Eutechnyx? I might have to check this game out.
From the gameplay shown(I haven't play it ), this feels like a natural evolution of Pac-Man to a non arcade game or more ,you know "home console-like?" game.
woah! i love the points made in this video, definitely got me thinking about game design. to answer your question, i don’t really consider any platformer game “2.5D” because, as you said, the term is really hazy. 2D platformers can have 3D graphics, like with donkey kong country returns or modern kirby titles. as for a platofrmer like klonoa or littlebigplanet? i’d just say it’s a 2D platformer with 3D gimmicks haha
Exactly! While the PS1 version has better graphics and framerate, as well as clips from the movie, the N64 version has superior controls (due to having analog support), faster load times, and (imo) better soundtrack. The Dreamcast version of Toy Story 2 is ass.
Who tf walks in DKC? You just run all the time or you're playing it wrong. Even if you walk, the movement is really tight. The hit box works just fine. And bro, are you really going to criticize DKC music? Really?? Honestly I don't undestand this video. It feels like bait tbh.
Your review sucks. No one ever had problems to know where the characters land or if they'll hit or not the enemies. Many of your reasons ended with a poor argument. All the points you consider bad in your amateurish analysis is what indeed made this unique game being a treasure of humanity. WTF the segment when you spoke about the music, literally after the amazing logo introduction that leads you to the first soundtrack: DK Island Swing, It is a master class on how to prepare the player to engage in the theme of the game where you incarnate this massive crocodile-bully gorilla, and makes you feel you are crossing an entire jungle through mythical places that if it weren't for that someone stealing your bananas we would never have discovered and then end up finding that they were stolen by a high seas pirate crocodile captain, ending with that epic pirate tune. Seriously everytime you try to describe this bad aspects seems that you are just trying hard in order to fill your lack of content analyisis.
Your channel is pretty good honestly, but I think that you should make your thumbnails more catchy to get more views Side note: I think you should censor your swearing because your content can work as child friendly conten
