I came back to this video because I don't feel like a fraud when it comes to art, but I do feel it in society in general. Being an artist is a natural gravitation for me, just like gardening and daydreaming. When I try to get a career or even a paid job is where I usually feel that I'm an impostor, faking my way to a dollar or attempted qualification. When studying art it comes naturally. That's all 😊💚🙏🌿
Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s wonderful that you feel so connected to your art, gardening, and daydreaming-those are the things that make you, you. It’s natural to feel out of place in certain situations, but don’t forget that your unique perspective and creativity are valuable in any setting. Keep leaning into what feels natural to you, and trust that your authenticity will shine through, no matter where you are.
I often draw from photo references I’ve taken or found, but I also like to let my imagination take over and draw from my mind. It’s all about finding what works best for the piece I’m working on.
I completely understand how busy life can get! Even if you only find 15 minutes a day to draw, that adds up to over 90 hours in a year. Those small moments really do make a difference and can add up to something significant over time. Keep finding those pockets of time whenever you can-they all contribute to your growth as an artist!
What impressed me the most wasn't the artwork or editing of this video. What really impressed me was the way you spoke and drew so freely. I could really sense, freedom and authenticity in the way you did things. Don't lose that. Good job.
Thank you! I’m thrilled you noticed the natural vibe in my video. Your encouragement means a lot. I’ll keep aiming for that genuine feel. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much! It’s amazing to hear that my videos are a part of your daily routine. I really appreciate your support and I’ll keep creating more art with ballpoint pens and Sharpies.
Amazing videos! You website gives error when trying to get the sketching manifesto (I enter email and then gives this error:TypeError: Failed to fetch)
@@ChrisWilsonStudio yes it is. I love the novel „Children of Hurin“ from J.R.R Tolkien and Alan made the illustration. I am a fan since 2007 when I first read it!
My sketchbook ist more like an artbook. I always do high time consuming drawings, which go up to 6 hours and more. Some say I should draw sketches but I can’t… I am proud of my sketchbook btw, but it is filled slowly :)
That's awesome! Everyone has their own style, and it's great that you take the time to create detailed, time-consuming drawings. If you're proud of your sketchbook, that's what matters most. Keep filling it at your own pace!
@@ChrisWilsonStudio today I started a second one. My goal is it to draw sketches that take only 20 min. So I have to hurry :) - it is less detailed but will become its own style, I think. The first drawing is a knight on a warhorse, riding into battle ;)
Isn’t it ironic: that feeling of dread that can accompany comparison. yet often we were denied the witnessing of these other artists developmental journeys. And I don’t think it was because they didn’t want share, but were also conditioned to believe that that part of of their art journey wasn’t relevant or significant to another artists journey of self discovery. I just feel lucky that some of my favorite pieces to look at were the sketches of Alan Lee! That’s why I love looking at yours! Like those grasshoppers; such life! Such character!🙏🏽
Thank you for such a thoughtful comment! It's true-seeing the developmental journey of other artists can be so enlightening. I'm honored that you find inspiration in my sketches, much like you do with Alan Lee's work. Those grasshoppers were fun to bring to life!
I like your art! I also like to sketch with ballpoint pen and your videos thought me to sketch freely again... to find the fun and play again. Thank you! <3
You know deep down i might not be all that skilled at art -- not even close to that, but my Creativity and pontential is so incredibliy immense. Hopefully i can reach an skill Level i want so i can fully utilize those things to the fulliest, just one day :')
Your creativity and potential are truly amazing, and that's what matters most. Keep nurturing your skills, and you'll reach the level you aspire to one day. Believe in your journey!
Your video completely resonated with me. You have a genuine understanding of the struggles of someone learning to draw. Your words are compassionate and kind. I also feel truly inspired by your art.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm really glad to hear that my video resonated with you. It means a lot to know that my experiences and art can inspire and connect with others. Keep drawing and enjoying the journey!
I love the way you did the demo zoomed in and panned out, at the end, to show the overall creation! It kind of kept your intention mysterious til the end! That’s when you see the crow with the most awesome look in his eye! Like:” I know what you did! In fact! I know everything about you!”👻😂 Amazing what you can achieve with just a few strokes of a pen!🙏🏽 btw, where I live we have more ravens and they are actually quite silly!😂
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the zoomed-in and panned-out demo effect. It's amazing what a few strokes of a pen can achieve! Ravens are fascinating, and it's fun to hear they can be silly too! 😂🙏🏽
I am my own worst enemy when it comes to drawing, I have just started learning to draw quite late in life and it is so painful having to fight yourself to keep going. Really nice video to hear, helped my to stop overthinking things.
