I am a die hard fan of the game of basketball and have been playing and watching the game for over 25+ years. Like most people growing up in the Michael Jordan era, I am a die hard fan of him. I am also a fan of the Lakers.
How much the fans and commentators are raving about him already that early in his career was astounding. And how about the on court interview after a loss ...you never see that...much less being the first one they interview on court from either team.
Knowing Houston was taking Hakeem Olajuwon first overall in the 1984 draft, Bob night called the GM for the Portland Trailblazers informing them that they absolutely have to pick Jordan 2nd overall! The GM of the Trailblazers said they weren't interested in Jordan because they needed a center! Knights response... "Then start Jordan at Center!"
I'm looking at Bird when Isiah made the kidding a lot line, and it told me all I need to know. The whole press conference was to humiliate Isiah while holding him accountable. I couldn't stop laughing after the dude in the back played the tape 🤣
Man , I couldn't stand this man in the 90s because he would beat my team so many times I rooted against him every finals because when he got the ball in a lot of those last quarters even if he was having an off night wich weren't many , you just knew he was coming!!! And you also knew there was nothing nobody could do about it. But years later and now looking back I realized just how privileged I was to watch him perform. Michael was just incredible, he exemplified everything of what you wanted to see in sports; the hard work, the passion , the never say die attitude, the get out of my way, I'm taking over attitude oh man just brings tears to my eyes to watch all these highlights of him. Thanks MJ for putting on a show for us even when we were on the loosing side. You just made not only your teammates better but your opponents better , the game of basketball better and yes even brought the best out of fans and foes alike. Just the most magical time to watch the greatest ever!!!!
Class? He lost. He can’t change the truth. MJ fans need to learn that. He got eliminated for a decade but you minimize it by saying he showed class? Lol… Then there was multiple games MJ didn’t show any class… MJ trashed Detroit before the game… and took a game waaaay further by cheating Isaiah out of the Olympics… hating his own friends… so MJ is not known for class… MJ is known for trash… bullying his overweight and short manager… that’s worst. Punching 3 of his own teammates… don’t even mention wizards evidence… MJ was so horrible they fired MJ for being trash in managing and playing on a team… So interesting how y’all still try to pretend MJ was so good while the evidence is crystal clear… the second his team speaks on the hidden history of MJ… delusional MJ fans run to protect the MJ lies and y’all attack all the many people saying the same things about MJ. Definition of delusional. Regardless of conflicting evidence they still believe the media marketing image lies.
The NBA in the 1980’s was the Best ERA in NBA History and I am glad the Pistons were a part of it. They were the known as the Bad Boys for their Rough Style of play and Bill Laimbeer was the Bad Boys Leader. Today’s NBA is way too soft.
I’m a Detroiter and it’s 2024 and just saw Indy go the line 6 times(4 was the last 14 second) to Boston 30 FTs. Boston STILL gets all the calls. Some things never change. What a joke.
This layup clip should be shown more than the switch up versus the Lakers. It would stop a lot of arguments and maybe even turn some fans to come around.
You missed multiple "insane quickness" highlights from 80s and there is one that was the most fast 1st and 2nd step(while dribbling of course) I have seen from any player in NBA ever, one with Jordan against Pistons late 80s.
Why would Michael Jordan ever like Isiah when they played dirty and try to beat him up, he congratulates them when they won, and they leave the court in a classless way when they lose and don't do the same with the bulls.
I would hate it when the homies would compare our games, he was 100% offensive minded: I just wanted to do whatever my team needed to have the edge. I would look at the team stats at HALFTIME to see what areas our opponents had the edge in. Rebounds, Assists, Steal, Block Shots, Fouls: I knew it was the only way to take away their momentum. He was multi dimensional in his game, didn’t telegraph his intentions: drive past you, post you up and overpower you, shoot the midrange, triple team him pass, and shot high percentage from free throw line. And then turnaround on defense and GUARD YOU to take your remaining energy, if that wasn’t enough SWITCH to TWO and play off the ball TO MAKE YOU RUN SOME MORE until your LUNGS FEEL LIKE THEY ARE ABOUT TO COLLAPSE.
The OBJECTIVE of the ONE & TWO is to collapse the paint BY MAKING THE DEFENSE SAG DOWN. My coaches would always say GET ONE FOOT IN THE PAINT before you decide to make your decision. So I would tell the TWO get open so I can see you for the bailout (3). How else are your teammates going to get the rebound? From LONG BOUNCE REBOUNDS from MISSED THREES? THE PAINT is the HIGHEST POSSIBLE PERCENTAGE shot you could ever TAKE.
The funny thing is, they didnt really stop Jordan from scoring. He still put up points in those games. But they punished him for those points. They made him pay a price. And they shut down everyone else. But Jordan was still scoring like a madman. There was only one game in the entirety of all the Bulls vs Pistons series where MJ scored under 20. So he still got his. Maybe he didn't go off for 40 or 50 as often against the Pistons but it wasn't a complete shutdown.
Watch closely after the dunk. Suns coach Cotton Fitzsimmons ran on to the floor mad about something and he almost runs into Pippen and Pippen looks at him like what the phuck are you doing out here?
