Through this new channel, The Scenic Cruisers, you will follow me, TJ, along with my family and our dog, through a vlog of our repairs, conversion, and adventures with a 1956 GM Scenicruiser coach bus. It is #858 of 1001 every built. It also goes by the model of: PD4501-858. This bus was previously used by Greyhound and was originally delivered to Lexington, KY to be used on the south-western routes.
Hi TJ, I am in aw of your tenacity and gumption to get that clutch changed in true shade tree fashion. Good work! I want you to know I have watched your clutch change an average of once a year. TJ, I want to know how your original HVAC space is being used. There are many options to get that space working as it should again. How can I help? I do not like flying saucer or space shuttle rooftop HVAC units on any frequent road used RV’s towed or otherwise, this equipment is not wind or air slipstream friendly. keep up the good work! Never give up never surrender, August

This is someone else’s quote, I love it. The Drivers of the day soon leaned that when on a level highway in forth gear, by sliding the shifter slightly forward but not nearly enough to put the bus into neutral, electrically created an ungoverned 4th gear leading to the first of the, I was doing 70 on the flat when this Greyhound bus, Stories! The purpose of the micro switches on the shift selector just below the driver’s floor is to aid in down shifting. In 1954 to 1956 a standard GMC big truck was powered by a single 471 Detroit, in contrast the cruiser sported two 471s engines. This people-mover was very futuristic for 1954.
That cologne V6 was a problem you would get about 240k to 260k I got 265k out of mine but the one before it the 4 l overhead valve V6 not a lot of horsepower but last forever I got 580,000 out of one of my explorers and my current one has almost 400k
I’m looking at a 2007 sport trac 205k miles on it. I can not find any records showing the cassette was ever changed. It also has the 4.0 and 5r55s transmission. Would it be smart to pass? Meaning how soon before big repairs just with that mileage
My 05 sport Trac made it to 500k , I rebuild the 5r55e myself at 180k with no probs. But now her body is still in top shape her powerplant is tired . Thought about v8 swap of some type. I really wanted 4bt Cummins or 453 Detroit. Still bouncing it around which it will be
Thanx for update TJ. When I drove 858 across country last year I was grabbing third a lot going up hills. Heck, the hills around flagstaff I needed to get second. That 318 would slow down if it even thought a hill was coming! You mentioned downshifting down the hills. Na. Never on the interstates did I need to.
I love your videos and wish you luck on your renovation! I’ve done a Bedford bus in the UK and I’m over 10 years, I’m on the road now but there’s always something to do…..I hope to see more videos of you soon!!
