Fellow allotmenteer gave me a tip yesterday to cook runner beans in a different way: Finely chopped onions in a tspn of olive oil lightly fry til soft Add your chopped runner beans into the pan and cover with a tight lid Leave to sweat lowest heat for around 15 mins or so or until soft. No water unless sticking to pan. Voila! Soft delicious runner beans! Tried it this morning. Fab! 👍👍
I have a question about the Cabbages - I am a family of 4 (Plus 4 including my BFF neighbour) but only 3 of us eat cabbage. Even if you have a great germination, how many of the cabbage plants will you put to ground? You seemed to sow a LOT of seeds! :)
Hello! Good question. I regret not putting in the video when editing why I sowed so many. They were all old seed and the germination would be poor (it was) I agree it was sown densely. Not usually what I do. I do thin out & give a lot of plants to gardening friends too. Sometimes my seedlings fail and sometimes theirs do. So we all help each other. We always sow more than we need to ensure we all have plants to put in the ground. 😀 Danny 🌱

@kittacrafts haha sorry! I'll be more mindful when editing in future. If it helps. I usually grow on 15 of each veg (cabbages etc) and then pick the best 8-10 cabbages etc for a single 10ftx4ft bed

You're welcome, I found this out myself the hard way, and was feeling quite gutted as the powerlift will not even give me the extra crank, but it happily powers my ice machine and Makita charger, I was going to use it at the local forest school I volunteer at sometimes, when I am having good days, with the fibromyalgia, lupus and spinal damage lol I try not to give up helping others.

Thank you for the information regarding the fig tree. Just picked up a small one this year and trying to figure out whether it stays in a pot or goes into the garden.
Oh great! They overwinter well outside. I shall show that in a future video in October. If in a pot, place near the house wall (to steal some heat) and from winds. Danny 🌱
Aren't you worried about club root, a lot of UK Allotment growers seem to repeat 2 or 3 brassica crops after each other, have garden in the same spot 32 years, rotation is my thing, have never had club root. Have 3 or 4 years no brassicas, have separate beds for winter and summer brassicas. Have 9 beds.
It's never been an issue for me. It's a new plot. I do rotate the beds though. It's a new plot and that's the only free bed for the cabbages this year. Once the plot is established I'll have more scope to move things about. 😊
Hi just signed to your site , I've got a raised bed , only had it for 4 months , I've got beetroot , broccoli and green runner beans , I've had radish and pok choy , my broccoli and other bits have tall off shots with yellow small flowers , can you tell me what's happening and what done I do , do I cut them down or leave them x 👊 🥦🍅🍀

Hi Danny…I love Romanesco. Frustratingly my first year (2020) those & my cauliflower were beautiful, ever since a disaster! I do have clubroot but this doesn’t seem to affect my other brassicas. I even tried a new variety this season but they blew so might not bother anymore. I’m thinking of trying 9 star broccoli as it’s a perennial & apparently a bit of a cross? I’m not great with cabbage as grow them at the wrong time of year….always ready in summer when ideally I want them winter!!
Hello! I had it with a swede mash. I planned to do so much kayaking but sadly the last 2 times I got in my ribs were aching after. So I've had to take it easy. Hopefully soon!!!
