GRAPHIC DESIGN SKILLS I FREELANCE DESIGN BUSINESS TIPS
Hello! My name is Lauren Gonzalez and I have been a graphic designer for 13+ years.
7 years ago I started my own design freelance business where I have had such clients as Disney and Paul Newman. I grew it to consistent 5-figure months with steady clients and financial stability.
In this channel, I share the path that led me to success with YOU in the hopes that you don't need to go through the same mistakes I made. I will teach you how to grow your graphic design business, get paid as a graphic designer and have a steady stream of clients in addition to some graphic design tutorials as well.
Thanks for making all the points clear. I was told it's easy to make money as a freelancer. But it's totally opposite. It's like being a one-man band. Have to juggle a whole company with two hands only. Whoever reading this, don't get into freelance business without a proper plan. Otherwise it will get tangled soon.
General question about Wacoms: I've been using iPad Pro for years for illustration and light animation. How hard is it (how long would it take a 53 year old like me?) to transition from looking directly at what I'm drawing, to having to look up at a computer screen to see what my hand is doing down on the table? This is one of the reasons I've shied away from investing in the Wacom setup in my studio.
Good lord. Where have you been all my life. I was literally smiling all through the video since you were consistently hitting the nail on the head with each point. Definitely going to implement all. Just subscribed to your channel and I'm glad I did 😊
Just 70k views????. More people definitely need to see your content bcos this is straight up value. Not too long but definitely on point with the delivery of the message
I think what makes the business more challenging is that long learning curve (since you have to learn advanced stuff in each niche to surpass AI), as well as the patience required to build an attractive portfolio and gather positive client testimonials over time. All of this need true dedication and staying away from negativity. 🙏🏻
Very true and it is not an easy journey. So much to deal with. Negativity can lead down a bad path and it is vital to keep your mindset positive as hard as it is.
I was lost in my life. One day I was watching RU-vid and suddenly saw Lauren's channel. Then I decided to learn design with your course. I am unemployed so I don't have money. Still decided to take the course. But since last one month, the situation of our country is so bad that none of us is okay. stay with us lauren Pray for Bangladesh Pray For Bangladeshi student
I think it's still quite possible to be a graphic designer in 2024 but it seems like to do so does seem a little more daunting then it was a few short years ago. I think learning to think outside the box will be beneficial for designers since the status quo is definitely changing.
I really appreciate that content you put out. I just started my freelance journey a month ago and I’ve been so overwhelmed with the building process. I feel like I’m in such a unique position because I’m a stay-at-home father of two girls and I’ve yet to come across a designer that speaks on having a design career while having kids. I graduated with a graphic design degree this past May and got my first client soon after which was great, but now I’ve been on this rollercoaster of trying to get myself established and get more clients because I don’t want my first one to be my only one.
Congratulations on graduating and earning your degree in May! But yes, that is a LOT to deal with being a stay-at-home father and work at the same time. Just know it gets easier as your business and your kids get older. Just keep your goals strong and make sure you set up your own branding :)
Always grateful for your videos! Graphic designing is an art, and you need support for it. SmythOS AI Agent gives you the support to boost your creativity
I discovered you today and you’re making me want to consider graphic designing as a career. I enjoy designing flyers and newsletters. Could you do some videos on designing that type of media? Thanks!
I like to use canva for the fact that all the assets are a lot more readily available I use it to get the basic design down and then I finalize it in Adobe.
Very very very helpful! I actually challenged myself and watched the first part of your video to see the initial flyer. Then I approached the design and worked one out. Afterwards, I watched the rest of the video to see your solutions. Really fun and sharp!
love your videos! I watched some to help my graphic designer establish his brand and business but actually get so much value out of your content for my own business.
Here is an article about this: support.wacom.com/hc/en-us/articles/8342308503063-My-pen-is-lagging-jumping-or-always-drawing-without-touching-the-surface-What-can-I-do
That photoshop beta seems promising and all of the other options as well that just happens to be my favorite. The colorize option could be used for so many things.
This is so informative video Lauren!! I remember I used to spend a lot of time doing researches for the client target audience or the competitors. Sometimes the client doesn't have a clear goal of what does he need. Huge respect for you that you added the prompts in the description to make it easier for us to use them. Great video as always 🙏🏻🙏🏻
So glad it helped you Kareem! And yes, the goal is always making it easier for you designers so you don't have to deal with all the struggles that clients and projects can throw at you.
